I think most of the new icon looks are nice upgrades, especially if you see them larger in your item slots. Some still seem work in progress (molji something) but valve is still working on them.

I very recently realized the greatness of Tidehunter. Although, I'm not very sure what to get after I buy Blink Dagger, most of the time I go for Assault Curiass or Heart.

Maybe Shiva's Guard/Pipe would be a better option than those two..

Well, Pipe and Shivas are both pretty good items on Tide for obvious reasons. You can also try Necro3 if you want something extraordinary.

Based on the past and new item icons, I've concluded that somehow Malestrom and Molljnir are reversed. The new Malestrom looks just like the old Molljnir. Reverse them and it all makes sense. Could this have been a simple valve oversight?
Wouldn't be surprised. They messed up some of the toggable icons like RoB.

I think i'm the only one that likes lion's new face.

You are not alone.

I have to say, after giving it some time, I'm really like a lot of these changes. Obviously this is still very much a work in progress, but the direction it's heading looks promising. I like the new Lion redesign and am still waiting for them to touch up the other older models.

Aww MKB isn't a glowing gatling gun of awesome anymore which will make me not want to buy it at all. Same goes for the sacred relic which I thought looked like a really cool lion's mane before but is now a non-menacing 3-eyed demon face.

My dream for DOTA 2 (or 3) would be to have inventory items somehow show up on your character's model in-game and to have animations showing you use them for at least the consumables. I'd be playing a Puck and have a basher equipped or a Nightstalker carrying a satchel full of wards.

I like how the old force staff looked like a pool cue. Whenever it was used I would think of heroes as little billiard balls being knocked around. That analogy doesn't work anymore :(

Man, the asshats you have to deal with playing this game. Some guy was moaning that I wasn't harassing with Gush as Tidehunter while we laned top. AT LEVEL ONE. Tide has 211 mana to start. Gush is 120. Do the math.

The best part is that after I politely explain that I can't throw Gush around willy-nilly he starts calling me a shithead and then is amazed when I take offense. This is all within the first 2 minutes of a game.

Simply amazing. It really kills my desire to play, especially because this is not an uncommon occurence.

I mean you shouldn't take offense. You should just mute him and report him.

yeah.. you're better off just muting everyone at the start of the game if you can't deal with it.

Well, you are both right and wrong :) I should take offense. I mean c'mon, anonymity might lead to being an asshole but that doesn't make it right.

However you are correct that I should mute him, and I did after a few minutes once I realized he was going to be an asshole all match. I also reported him for verbal abuse.

We had a Pugna who was obviously very new, and he berated him so much that the guy finally quit 20 minutes in. Sure, the guy was feeding, but that doesn't give anyone the right to be a non-stop berating asshole.

See, I think this is a bad attitude. The solution to people being assholes shouldn't be "just mute them." As a acommunity we shouldn't tolerate that kind of shit. Here's hoping to Valve finding a solution to the community problem. And the "can't deal with it" part of your post makes it sound like it's my problem, not his.

bad attitude? everyone will tell you the same thing. the community is gonna stay that way whether you like it or not.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. Do you feel that it's OK to act that way during a game? Or are you just saying that it will never change and that the only solution is to mute abusive people?

Would you be offended if you were walking down the street and a 6 year old called you a poo poo brain? No, he doesn't know any better. Same thing here. They should know better, but they don't. So you mute him so you don't have to listen and report him so hopefully he just ends up with people like himself. It will make the community better in the end, you just have to have patience.

It's not necessarily bad advice. If you have the lane advantage or the enemy over extends then you should definitely lead with a Gush, especially if you have a momentary creep advantage or the enemy incorrectly pulled creeps toward him and is being auto-attacked by yours.

Besides, there is nothing wrong with spending 120 mana at or near the 0:00 mark in the game. You can spend the mana even to last hit your first creep if necessary. By the 2:00 minute mark you might be level 3 and have regened back to full mana and can actually try to kill with your spell again.

You will always end up playing with other players, whether friendly or not, that will have more experience and possibly a different assessment of a lane situation from you. Sometimes you will be wrong, sometimes they will be wrong. People can be very unforgiving and close-minded to other people's suggestions when they want to play competitively and we should also maybe reflect if we're like that ourselves too.

Muting and reporting your teammate for that little thing is pretty extreme. This is still a team game and cutting off communication is the worst you can do for yourself and the rest of the team.

Of course it wasn't for just that.

I listened to five minutes of the guy cursing me out before being forced to pull the plug on him. he berated me non-stop after our initial confrontation and there was no way I was listening to that for 40 minutes.

He berated the other guy so bad that he quit, and one of the other people on my team made a comment to the effect of "I'm commending that guy for putting up with you for so long."

I have to admit, I'm astounded at everyone standing up for the guy and for the "just deal with it" comments I'm getting.

66% of the comments have just been mute him.

C'mon, really?

If we're going to be pedantic I said "I'm astounded at everyone standing up for the guy and for the "just deal with it" comments I'm getting." Looking over the three people who replied, 2 said "mute" and the other stood up for him him, meaning we're at 100% as per my statement.

Of course, that's not the point, but it appears you don't really care what the point is.

Muting is your best option. That guy isn't going to change his attitude overnight. If anyone starts being abusive to you/his teammates and continues it for several minutes, just mute them. It's only going to get worse if you fight back and you'll end up losing focus (and possibly the game, too.)

Being an asshole to your teammates is the worst you can do for yourself and the rest of the team.

It's also the worst thing you can do for the community as well.

How many times on this very board have we seen people say that they tried the game and people were such assholes that they'd never play again?

Like I said, that's exactly what I did.

I posted it here as an example of how bad the community often is, that's all.

Hmm I defended the Gush at level 1 comment but not the swearing.

Muting a teammate I am rarely a fan of since it is a potentially worse reaction to any trolling or rudeness as it can lose the game for me and my team. This is organized PVP, and I accept all the potential bad with the potential good whenever I press that button to initiate matchmaking. People are competitive, and we're playing a competitive game. I don't think it's a bad community at all, just that the competitive nature brings out the worst and best in people. A bad teammate can ruin your day but playing a great game with decent people can definitely make up for a week of constant losing.

9999999% of the time random pubbies have nothing good to say.

But you already do this! I think you just want a legitimate excuse.

I definitely understand where you're coming from. It certainly is an impediment if someone is muted and it affects team play. I agree 100%.

However, I disagree that the solution is to listen to someone rant and rave for 40 minutes. At the end of the day, this is a game. It's not my job. I'm not getting paid to listen to someone be an asshole for an extended period of time. This is supposed to be fun, and listening to that is anything but.

I just ventured off to OT because I was a bit bored here on gaming side. Saw some disturbing stuff, and some very VERY NSFW stuff. I think I'll stick to Dota 2 thread more from now on :P

I think we have different definitions of deal with it. Muting him and reporting is not dealing with it... Its doing something about it. Its literally the only thing you can do about it other than type out some speech to him about how he should find jesus or something.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your posts then. I agree with the above :).

That might be my problem. :( I really need to stop pubbing.

Maybe Shiva's Guard/Pipe would be a better option than those two..

Pipe, Shiva's and Refresher should come before Heart. Maybe even Assault Cuirass if you have a lot of physical DPS.

THIS. Dagon is the most underrated, but most powerful item in the game.

Went Dagon Tide yesterday because a friend kept insisting I play Tide because he wanted me to babysit him. Unfortunately for him I don't really like support so I stole almost all his farm in the first 15 minutes :P

Needless to say, a Tide with Dagon was roaming around :)

The Starladder stream is casted by V1lat in Russian, but his cast is pretty entertaining even if you don't understand him. (similar to the Korean commentators in BW) Purge is pretty solid though and you can actually understand him. He's not very good at getting excited about the game like Tobi but that wouldn't fit his style either.

I almost never like people who co-cast with Purge. They're always boring.

This guy with him doesn't sound too interesting either :/
