Just played a game. Really not used to new HUD. Especially dislike the k/d/a and lh on bottom and that the hp/mp isn't centered.. I think before it at was at least close to centered but now it's blatantly too much the right

You'll probably only get item drops post game. I'd hate to have someone pause because 'OMG I GOT A NEW WINDRUNNER HOOD BETTER EQUIP IT NOW'.

so item drops and stuff like that wont happen in game right?

Edit: I mean in a way that could disrupt the gameplay.

Cosmetic only.

I think a lot of people are missing the biggest thing about the F2P confirmation: NO HERO LOCKING!

League of Legends has it's problems because it's designed to only have a limited selection of heroes. One of the things that killed HoN (in my opinion) was switching to a LoL-style hero locking system, and making "legacy" accounts unobtainable for those that weren't grandfathered in.

One of the biggest parts of these types of games (more specifically Dota/Dota 2 and HoN) is picking your team. Everyone needs to have access to the full selection of heroes so they can choose wisely. It would really suck if the other team had an Outworld Destroyer on their team and you're the last person picking on your team, and you need a carry.....and the only one you can choose is Anti-Mage. Granted there are things like Single Draft and Random Draft, but those can be random among ALL the heroes, not just limiting you to All Pick and only being able to pick from 10-15 heroes.

M5 vs Darer was amazing, also funny to see how Purge adapted to the new UI, wonder how Tobi will fix it.

That's the thing, there's really only one place for the webcam to go to. For advertisements, which you want when casting LANs, there's probably going to be a black overlay square in the right-bottom corner above the UI (like they do in Starcraft 2).

Not to mention the part where the webcam is going to need to go is more suited for a 3:4 window instead of 4:3.

Yeah, I know it's cosmetic only, I meant in a way that it interrupted gameplay because people are more interested in looking at what they got than on what's happening on screen.

I'm expecting DOTA2 to steal a good chunk of LoL's audience when they realize that a.) you have all the heroes, and b.) you get free cosmetic items randomly just from playing the game (assuming it follows the TF2 model)

I'll never understand why there's a need to see the commentator's face...Before and after a match or during any breaks that's fine, but having it there during is distracting anyways...

It was tweaked, but it still doesn't compare to the newer models.

Though, to be honest, the one model I really want them to return to is Spectre. She just looks too much like an amorphous blob in game.

Thats why its awesome. Spectre looks fantastic.

Heroes that need graphical remakes would be Vengeful Spirit, horrible portrait and her model isn't that great, Shadow Demon, again horrible portrait, and a amorphous blob of a model, Spectre is probably the worst in the whole game everything about her is horrible, voice, portrait, model absolutely nothing should remain the same.

I disagree, I think she has one of the strongest designs in the game. She's a schizophrenic ghost that basks in confusion, the cloudy and unintelligible aspects of her model and voice is more or less a perfect fit.

I hope you never design anything.

I disagree with everything you said, good day sir.

They put some interesting designs into her, like the animations of the folds of her body, that are lost because she's so indistinct. I am convinced they will go back to work on her like many of the other older heroes.

Exort Invoker is pretty fun to watch.

Refinements could very well be in order, but what I'm getting at is that the base design is already really solid and refined. Quite a ways removed from scrapping everything.

How would you guys feel about Valve using some of the border space for advertising instead of charging for whatever they are going to try to sell, likefor hats or whatever it is Valve has plans for. Something out of the way at the top on either side of the Radiant/Dire portraits.

Honestly I cant see anything that Valve could charge for that I would want to pay for. I wouldn't care about hats or different skins for any of the characters. So outside of advertisements how could they make good money on this?

But they will make good money on cosmetics. In game advertisements sound terrible unless it's through streamer's "portals" or something.(If they decide to do in game streaming)

True, I'm mostly expecting upgraded textures and details like Lion than an abrupt overhaul of the character.

Like, advertisements while you're playing? Sounds pretty bad if you ask me.

The thing with the free to play model is that they don't need every player paying money to turn a profit. Some people won't put a dime into it (though I'm sure you'll be encouraged with an account upgrade if you do). Other people will shell out over hundreds of dollars into the game. It'll average out just fine.

Myself and a section of players like me haven't spent a cent on hats or crates in TF2, yet a significant number of players do, and that game is reaping cash by the trainload. I wouldn't be so quick to make any one individual the exemplar customer.

Valve will probably make no money from you.

However the F2P model is proven to be exceedingly profitable given the right implementation. It's an oversimplification but think of it as redistributing the cost of development from the players with less disposable income to those with more. Instead of demanding $50 from everyone, they can get $5 from some, and $100 from others. I myself have spent over $150 on League of Legends, so I know first hand how F2P can exploit certain impulsive mindsets.

That and I would much prefer cosmetic items over intrusive ads.

Cosmetic items, at least, can be blended into the art style of the game. Ads... No. Unless they turn your clarities into cans of Pepsi or something.

You never played TF2 or read about how much money that makes huh?

Only game that's ever worked for me with some type of advertisement is Quake Live, but it wasn't too bothersome since you were moving around a map and hardly saw ads.

With Dota 2 though, they'd be on your HUD, constantly seeing them. Not really looking forward to something like that.

I know TF2 makes tons of money with hats, but I'm not sure that will translate very well to dota 2. Hats aren't going to work for sure. And the models aren't exactly easy to see anyway due to the nature of the game being nearly top down.

Regardless of what happens with cosmetics, Announcer packs, Strange Weapons, and Crates are going to make coin hand over fist.

Hats aren't going to work for sure.
Explain?

I mean, LoL makes $7 on just a skin recolor, $15 for slight model changes and enhanced spell effects.

With customizable bling, Valve has much more flexibility with which to nickel and dime their players.

LoL? LoL models are of lower quality than DotA 2 ones, yet they make ridiculous amounts of money selling skins.

I think you underestimate the power of differentiating your character from someone else. People will buy taunts, hats, skins, capes, pickles and whatever else separates them from the pack. Valve is going to make money hand over fist with this game.

I would be more than happy to be wrong : ) Especially if I don't have to see other players custom skins/hats. It just seemed to me like the perspective of the camera makes this kind of stuff nearly useless.

Na'Vi draft Invoker, Leshrac, and Night Stalker. Sweet Jesus CLG, I don't think getting Antimage, Tidehunter, and Venomancer is worth giving away that.

God damn I cannot wait to strap some Adidas power treads on my feet and regain some health with the outrageously cheesy taste of my Cheetos of Essification

What we need is Axe shilling Axe body spray every time he gets a kill.

Damn at that Antimage kill. Cold Snap proccing constantly with the Radiance, then the Hyperstone Bear getting an Entangle Root, followed by a Sunstrike to finish it. Two heroes acting alone to shut down CLG's biggest hope for the lategame.
