Dragon Quest Heroes II Is Downgraded On Nintendo Switch Compared To PS4 Version

It's far worse that Hyrule warriors on wii U.

It dips under 15 frequently, and it's not a looker. From what I can see, it runs better on ps3.
People shouldn't support this kind of release, especially for 90 fucking bucks.

edit: Granted, it might be a earlier build.

I guess I don't see it. Doesn't look that bad from the video or from what they showed yesterday. I'll know for sure tomorrow when my NS arrives and I can play for myself. It'll be the first game I'm gonna play since it's my most anticipated game so far.

I don't remember Hyrule Warriors being all that great, either. Still, doesn't matter to me. I don't really care all that much.

With the amount of content in this game and the portability factor, I don't mind a bit of downgraded graphics. It still looks great from what I can see in the videos

Frame rate can be messy and the game definitely needs a performance patch, but at least hopefully the crazy "Vita port" talk will end now lol

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Ok, so this could get us somewhere, comparison-wise. It seems the moment from DQHII where the demo picks up is at the beginning of the game, so I had the chance to find videos for the PS3 and PS4 versions. I've yet to check them completely, but I hope you find this useful

forgive me for the stupid question but... this isn't confirmed for the west, right ?
Presently, no. There was a listing for it on Amazon that was taken down super fast, but nothing otherwise. This has to be one of the easier localizations that Squenix could do, which is why I'm expecting them to dump it on Nintendo because such is the fate of this series in the west.

Its listed on GameStop with Nintendo as publisher.

Not sure why Nintendo is handling the publishing? These games aren't exclusive.

Not the Switch version, no. DQ Heroes I has been out for PS4 since late 2015, and DQ Heroes II will come out for PS4 in April, iirc. I wouldn't expect the Switch version until way after that, if at all, since it's a collection of both games and they are going to want to sell the standalone PS4 game for a while first.

Knowing Square-Enix though, the Switch versions won't make it to the West unless Nintendo steps in, since S-E seem to be happy to localize on Playstation but doesn't seem to do shit on Nintendo platforms.

There is some new content in these games that are exclusive to this release, so there's that.

Didn't know that Gamestop had a listing for it, so I guess it's going to come sooner or later. That it's Nintendo publishing it is not surprising, though still disappointing since Squenix can't seem to bother themselves with giving this series all of its support in the west.

Hmmm...not sure what to think, but I think the NS version looks better (better lighting and shadows overall), but the sacrifice for this is the framerate. I guess that's the tradeoff they made with the game. Also, I get the feeling the NS version is 1080p or somewhere thereabouts. The PS3 version definitely isn't.

I'm not too familiar with how the games look elsewhere, but to look at it as is, the Switch version looks good. I'd be fine with that and would probably lean toward the Switch version due to portability.

Same, I didn't play the first Heroes so this will be my exposure to both entries.

The Switch version is struggling to maintain 30fps, never mind the 60fps of the PS4 version. Is it 1080p docked on Switch?

Edit: the textures seem lower res on the Switch too - e.g. the castle walls.

Hm thanks, this gives me some hope.
It's just that this is the type of game that I can play with the wife and know she would enjoy (if I'm stupid and there's actually no offline co-op please stop me ! ) but we don't really game on PC (I mean, I do but alone, stuff like Football Manager, etc), she prefers by far on console.

So the demo chugs a little on TV mode but looks pretty friggin great.

Portable mode looks blurry as hell and the framerate never hit 30 I think. Hoping to hear impressions from someone who purchased it.

So just by seeing the videos, I'm assuming that:

Switch version = PS3 version's assets + PS4 version's lighting and colors.

This video's title implies the Switch version is indeed 1080p docked:

Which is a BIG increase over the PS3 version I think someone else said.

That's honestly an awesome compromise IMO. The lighting really makes this look amazing on Switch, despite it being 30fps, which hardly bothers me in all honesty.

Also, I just checked DQH2 on Vita to see how close it is to the Switch version (seeing as how some claim they just ported that version over), and OH MY WORD!!!

Switch:

Vita:

Umm, that's a big no. My god, the Vita version's a wasteland in comparison. o_O

Note: In the vid of the Vita version, the player moved too quickly for me to grab it exactly while the screen faded in from black, so I had to adjust it. Here's the original version of the pic, and a following shot of the game after that part in normal brightness and whatnot, just to show you how close I made it:

OH MY GOD!!!! Nintendo's brand new $300 console is significantly more powerful than Sony's 5+ year old $200 portable! YOU WA SHOCK!

Thanks for the thrilling beat by beat update Hero of Legend. We would be lost without you.

That is my expectation with Switch. Capable to run any last gen games with 1080p plus current gen textures and light.

Har har. :p I'm just showing since there have been comments like this one:

Yeah that might have been one of the more stupid comments. As someone who played a number of Vita games which were Vita/PS3 or Vita/PS4... the Vita version is usually mega lame in comparison. They don't even try. The thing must have like 512K of RAM or something.

It's also nice to see how it comes with other versions in general. And it's one of only, like, two games that hit both systems with high enough performance to be worth comparing (the other being I Am Setsuna.)

But seriously, t hose kinds of thoughts needed to be shot down. Nevermind that if it was basically a Vita port it'd probably be running 60 fps on the Switch, or at least consistently >30.

I don't know why but the entire time I thought these games were Dragon Quest Swords ports (and a sequel that I didn't know existed). Was so confused why people were comparing it to musou games.

I played the demo a little on the Switch in portable mode and framerate was just too low for it to be enjoyable for me.

I was hoping that it would run as well as Hyrule Warriors Legends (on New 3DS without 3D on), but sadly it wasn't.

Maybe it's just the area the demo takes place in? It maybe it'll be more stable in the final release? I hope so, but the demo didn't give me a great impression. :(

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.

Even Cold Steel's Vita version was gimped with massive framerate issues, and that wasn't exactly a good looking game to begin with, lol.

I think it's cool that they're porting both games together. Gives some incentive to get this over the PS4 version if you happened to skip out on the first game, and the portability is probably worth the cost of the downgrade if it's an important feature to you.

Really enjoyed the demo of this more than I expected. It doesn't seem to be structured like a regular Musou game and feels very DQ. The frame rate means I'll likely never buy on Switch, though. :(

The demo in handheld mode is horrendous. It kind of hurts my eyes how the environment jumps when turning the camera in the open field. Is it also the same case in docked mode?

That's not what I call same lighting.

Switch version is based on PS3 version. Plain and simple.
For being a Musou title thought, DQH was quite a good looking game, especially with lighting and reflections. On PC with ReShade, it was just amazing. Really looking forward 2.

But it seems the Switch version may not be localized, or at a later date. Maybe because it's two games in one.

The Heroes games are good enough to where I could triple dip (PC, PS4, Switch)

I will still probably spend most my time on PC/PS4 for the achievements and pick up the switch version once I platinum them. Maybe get it used.

Looks fairly similar, framerate is bad. (Is this the demo?
Some geometry, but not to a great extent, is compromised.
Could the geometry be affected by the low frequency of the GPU in portable mode? After all, the LOD system of the in-house engine cannot be that advanced. Same with the use of TBR, which seems could be causing trouble at 1080p.
Idk about you guys, but seeing this and other games such as Snake pass gives me confidence for multiplatform games made in modern, proficient engines. DQXI will look great on Switch, probably with a lower visual quality gap thanks to UE4.
Edit: the Skylanders game keeps all of the effects of the PS4 version at the same framerate and at what I think is 900p with a bit less foliage. It's much less aliased than the PS3 one with better textures, effects and shadows.
