Update: I will no longer be maintaining this thread on NeoGAF.

Since these reveals have been rolling in at a pretty steady rate, and the other threads covering the topic aren't being updated (and with 80+ characters, it probably doesn't make sense to make a new thread for each reveal), I thought it would be a good idea to have a consistently updated thread to store all of them in one place.

Some weapons have been changed from Dynasty Warriors 8 as well, so there's ample discussion to be had there.

By Kingdom:

More as they come. I'll post them in the thread proper, and update this post. If you're worried someone is going to be left out, don't be. They've confirmed all characters from DW8 (up to Empires) are returning.

Dong Zhuo still pretty crazy looking... Was hoping they'd reign in the DW8 evil face and go a little more DW3 or even RTK. Maybe even go back to using swords again, too, a la Tyrant Sword/Horror in DW4 or Grand Star in DW3. Still, just happy he's back to melee at least and no more bombs.

Zhang Fei and Xu Zhu look great... Two of my favorite characters in RTK and also the actual Three Kingdoms stories, but never liked how goofy they were in DW. Just small changes but I like they're less aesthetically humourous and a bit more normal now.

Graphically, darn nice texture work... look at the cloth on Dong Zhuo, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei. Gorgeous.

Lu Lingqi has a sword and shield now, huh? Rip xingcai
I figure they've learned well enough from DW6 and 7 that mass amounts of clone movesets won't go over well with the fan base. It could be that they'll take the Warriors Orochi 3 approach where some characters share weapon types, but with entirely different movesets, or they might give her her Dynasty Warriors 5 fork back, the same way they gave Zhang Fei his old serpent spear back (he's been using a double ended pike/spear since 6).

Also, adding Cheng Pu to Wu, totally missed him.

I have to say that I'm really happy with the designs so far. They seem to be hearkening back to the older designs, and toning down the more anime direction that the series was going in last gen.

I really love the style they seem to be going for with this game. Bringing back that DW5 and earlier aesthetic. Gold is definitely in. Cheng Pu looks great.

These weapon choices are interesting, and sort of a "regression". Xiahou Yuan's wielding dual clubs again and not his club/bow hybrid weapon? Lu Lingqi is wielding a sword and shield and not that giant shuriken-esque spear? Dong Zhou no longer has his bombs?

Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about that.

No simple cloth cape on Xiahou Dun? That's what completed his DW3 design for me and would've been one of the elements I expected to return given their approach, this time.

The Qiao's getting aged up is easily the best change so far.

I am seriously bummed out that Xiahou Yuan's not getting the club + bow moveset though. It was always cool seeing a more realized version of DW4 Yuan (where he used the club, but had the bow/arrow for a charge move).

Other random changes.
-Never played Lu Lingqi but I'm not liking that design
-I'm gonna miss helmet-less Sun Jian
-I'm already loving Lu Xun with his cool hat
-I wish we weren't getting grotesquely obese Dong Zhuo, though I like his design for once
-Xu Zhu's face/neck looks really weird

Even if the designs aren't liked, the good thing is that the old costumes will more than likely be dlc which will be cheaper than the other costume dlc. ( For DW7,8,WO3 the old game costumes were generally $3 for the entire roster of a specific game, which beat out those $7+ dlc costumes per clan.
Please have Yuan Shu be a unique finally, I mean if Yuan shao and yellow turban's leader get one shouldn't he. Finally happy man Chong got a unique... considering his name surely is.

Yuan Shu is the guy who is the cousin to Yuan shao, got the emperor's seal from sun ce(or jian) and claimed himself as emperor (died real quickly after that dumbass mistake) also betrayed sun jian at hu lao gate (he's the asshole who doesn't send supplies) (it's a funny line in DW3 ) I think you're thinking of Liu bao(I think that's the dude's name, has Huang Zhao and Wei yan, stage is where Liu Bei gets a land for himself generally )

That's Liu Zhang, although Koei should really get around to adding Yuan Shu at some point.

That being said, the only one of the new characters I really like is Cheng Pu. Everyone else is kinda "wut", though I'm willing to give them a chance.

Glad that they're adding more early Wei characters since they finally have enough people in Jin to solidify it as a 4th kingdom.

I hope Lu Bu still has his own faction with new characters added. Other really needs more playable characters before the 3 kingdoms do at this point, or like 3 games ago. The weapon changes are questionable.

The character designs are looking fantastic. Did they finally wrestle control away from Team Ninja? Interesting that the Qiao sisters will share weapons again. Xiahou Yuan getting dual clubs also makes me wonder if Taishi Ci will still use them, and if shared weapons will be a common thing in general.

Yuan Shu seems to be a very likely addition at this point. The latest website update gave details for the first ten eras of the game, up to the year 222, and the conflict between Yuan Shao and Shu gets more detail than the main factions. Really, it's about time at this point. He was a very important figure involved with all three kingdoms, and he's the final missing piece in the conflict between Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and Lu Bu. They can just give him Yuan Shao's current personality and tone Shao down a bit to contrast them.

I see that the nunchaku have gone back to their rightful owner, Ling Tong. Take THAT, Guan Suo!

Will echo the disappointment that Lingqi's weapon has changed. I really hope that's not a sign that the more interesting/over-the-top weapons from 7/8 are being taken away.

Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about that.
Speculation is that they're readjusting movesets to better fit their new combat systems, so weapons that are heavily built around their own gimmicks are likely out. The same may be true of highly projectile based weapons.

The interesting thing about Yuan is that he never actually used twin rods before. Up to five, he had a single rod, then he had a greatsword in 6, then a bow in 7, before finally a "bow rod" in 8.

Although I really liked most of the DW8 movesets, and I'm wary of clones, I'm willing to give Omega Force the benefit of the doubt until we understand more about how these movesets work.

Never played DW but most of these designs are incredible and I'd love to play with everyone!
What's amazing is that they're redesigning all 83 officers from the previous game, and adding new ones.

Although I really liked most of the DW8 movesets, and I'm wary of clones, I'm willing to give Omega Force the benefit of the doubt until we understand more about how these movesets work.

What's amazing is that they're redesigning all 83 officers from the previous game, and adding new ones.
Wait there's over 80 characters AND new ones in this game?! There's only 24 returning in the OP, you're telling me there's more than triple the ones I'm seeing? That's insane!

Yup. Theyve been building it up through the series(4 had 48ish, 5 had 59ish, 6 had 63ish, etc. Etc...iirc) and the great thing is theyre all unique and fully voiced.

I love almost all the designs

Chen Pu finally gets to be in.....it's been too long lol.

Character design seems to be rivaling DW6 in that category

6 actually dropped a lot of characters from 5, but 7 and 8 (plus expansions) added a metric ton.

What a strange looking weapon.
It seems to be some kind of ribbon blade
