An EA representative told GameSpot that the "most successful launch" milestone is "based on units sold, but we are not disclosing that total."

EA noted this in their financial release.

They don't give sales numbers anymore, but at least they seem happy with whatever it did end up selling.

EA said:
Dragon Age: Inquisition captivated fans and critics worldwide and it quickly became the most successful launch in BioWare™ history in addition to being named to more than 200 “Game of the Year” lists. The single player campaign alone has been enjoyed for more than 113 million hours.

More quotes from the call:

Dragon Age: Inquisition captivated fans and critics worldwide as it launched in November, and it quickly became the most successful launch in BioWare history. More than 113 million hours have already been spent exploring the depth and detail of the single-player experience in Dragon Age: Inquisition, and more players are joining each day. Named “Game of the Year” by 32 media outlets around the world, including IGN, Game Informer and the Associated Press, Dragon Age: Inquisition is a true masterpiece from the team at BioWare and a game that is sure to be played for a long time to come.

In particular, Dragon Age: Inquisition had by far the most successful launch in BioWare’s history, exceeding our expectations.

Outperformance versus our outlook was driven by the record-breaking Dragon Age: Inquisition performance.

Great to hear that the worries about how Inquisition charted were unfounded. BioWare themselves said awhile ago that they were more worried about how not placing in the Top Ten in November would affect perception than the actual sales (which they said were great).

I enjoyed the game but I felt it was the weakest DA title even after 2. Hope to see more of the series (but not in the same style as Inquisition).

Not to mention I would imagine that Inqusition had more sales on PC (so digital) than your average AAA title.

So glad this game did so well especially after EA/Bioware delayed it for a year. Hopefully EA now recognizes that pushing these games out 2 years at a time was hurting Bioware's reputation.

Good, Bioware can make great games when they are not constrained.

I hope they use that money to change the animations though...

If only the game was better. The next one will need a lot of work. It's average in nearly every aspect and hardly excels in any one thing. But ehh good for EA I guess.

Means little w\o concrete numbers for a long dev time on 5 platforms. When DA2 launched it also did better than DA1 but ltds ended about the same.

Nah man, Bioware have this unique brand of animations, with which you can easily tell their games apart from others. They did bug me a lot at first, but I've gotten used to them, and even started to appreciate them over time.

That's great. Can I please get a DA: Awakening sized expansion to it now? Not some 7 dollar little side missions, a real expansion. Thanks.

Haha, I don't hate them but it sometimes annoy me seeing my inquisitor standing in one leg like Sheppard and everyone doing the same hand gestures.

Bioware has money and making ambitious games like Inquisiton seems to work so I just hope that they keep investing in new content.

I'm a slut for anything they will do. Any DLC will work for me (Like Mark of the Assassin ) Started my 7th playthrough. Its a little on the tough slugging side. It would go much easier if I had some DLC added to the mix.

how is this possible it wasnt present in any top 10 on npd or in uk charts.

i dont believe you.gif

Currently playing through the series and on DA2, but I've already spend a dozen hours in DAI's character creator lol

On topic. This seems to be a trend among pubs these days, where they'll say"Game X is the biggest/most successful launch in somethings history", but never actually tell you the overall sales numbers.

With pre-order culture these days, games having better launches than games from lets say, 5 years ago, is expected, but this has lead to game sales becoming ridiculously front loaded, so overtime, a game which had a more sales at launch than a previous entry in a series, can end up having less sales overall.

It's really weird.
