EA re-trademarks "System Shock"

Please EA.

You know you can't do it.

You know your designers are incapable, and on top of that rendered almost completely useless due to your "edgy" marketing department that caters to what they think is the lowest common denominator.

Stay away from it, EA. Just keep churning out mega-license after mega-license. Plunge gloriously to the ground. And when the entire company is finally destroyed due to your complete inability to bring anything but brain-dead sequels to the market...

At least you'll be able to hold your head up and say "Well, we didn't ruin System Shock".

Amen, yeah!

You wonder why all of the hatred towards EA. Well, let us start with what EA did to Origin and work our way from there.

See Deus Ex: Invisible War.

EA had nothing to do with that game.

I hope that either a) EA is working with Irrational, and Bioshock will be rebranded or b) If Irrational isn't involved, I hope Mr. Spector is.

Origin managed to ruin itself long before Electronic Arts acquired it. Same with just about every other now shut down developer purchased by EA.

"Let's buy this struggling company. And because we're successful, they'll be successful."

Doesn't work that way.

Have you played it lately? I can not even make it out of the first room. SS2 on the other hand, now that is still playable.
It's completely playable, same as ever. And brilliant. The trick is getting it running past post-Win98.

And your proof of this theory is?

EA would probably only publish it and would out-source the development.
I use would twice.... maybe.

There is a reason why they want to keep the SS trademark, because of the quality which is associated with the name.
And as the largest player I am sure they would be aware of another Sci-fi classic series whose franchise was dealt a TKO through 'simplification', Deus Ex.
I would imagine they would like to avoid that. EA do like succesfull series.
So I would put down the harpoons at the moment.

But what are the chances of seeing SS3 in an enhanced Doom3-style engine...
Imagine REAL hacking games using terminals. ZE VOW!!!

Ultima VII (the original, not the expansion packs) was produced and published by Origin Systems before the EA buyout. You can't blame Electronic Arts for its shortcomings.

It tried to be everything to everyone. No focus to that game.

Ultima 7 is the best RPG game ever made and to many the best ULTIMA game ever made.

Ask the Ultima Dragons community (UDIC) (which I'm part of), ask any Ultima fan, ask any RPG player.

There are some weirdos that think U6 or even U4 was better but they are in the extreme minority.

Ultima 7 may be hated for one reason only - it had tremendous system requirements when it launched, thousands of people couldn't play it properly because the disk was constantly swapping.

...

There will be NO Ultima 7 badmouthing while I am here. You can try and attack Ultima 8, I'd gladly respond to such attack, but attacking Ultima 7 is pure insanity.

It looks & feels virtually the same as in U6. I don't see the problem.

Irrelevant to U7's playability... I have an easier time playing ascii nethack than U7. That perspective just doesn't work for me at all. Such a poor angle to design a graphics engine from.

I guess I got used to it.

And mind you I played U7 for the first time in 2000, June under pure DOS.

Of course I am not dense and I can see a room for improvement... but it would be very hard to do i.e. Pagan's view is nice but obscures too much.

Yup. It was pretty handy for both Origin and Bullfrog to be acquired by EA in their respective twilights, because then the fans got a surrogate hate figure who RUINED EVERYTHING!!! rather than having to appreciate both companies were already crippled by bad project management and egotism. Course, the EA acquisition certainly didn't help, so they're hardly blameless.

It was all downhill after Bioforge.

That's exactly what I was thinking as well. I pray to god they do the smart thing and make an SS title that truly lives up to it's good name. They need to focus on the game itself and worry about porting and adapting to consoles later. What's the point of tearing apart a game's formula for an audience that hardly likes to try any new franchises which is exactly what the game would be on consoles for the most part.

Looking at the awesome concept art and what the latest hardware is capable of these days, we're probably going to getting even more insane lighting effects. It's gonna be crazy seeing all those computer terminals, conduits, and liquid holding chambers all lit up on a modern engine.

I have to admit ive never played the system shock games, but from the looks of it, it could fall right into the studio that made riddick and Condemned. They're great at creating the whole atmosphere, Visual and Audio.

Edit: Monolith
Why would you say stuff like that? Monolith didn't make Riddick. Get your facts straight.

Please try to avoid bumping older threads unless there's an update that warrants it. And as infuriating as a poster's factual error may be, that's generally not one of those warranted reasons.

I'm pretty sure that EA published Ultima VII. That was the cause of including the 3 generators shaped like a cube, pyramid, and sphere (EA's old logo) that were wreaking havoc on the world and had to be destroyed.
