I think most gamers right now agree that BF 2042 in its current state is not ready to ship. Here are 10 basic points that the game must fix:

1. The interface, HUD and map is a mess. Go back just one game DICE and you will find ok UI.

2. The destruction is laughable. THIS should be the big title that lets you bring everything down. Instead it's even more limited.

3. Bring back the old class system and add customizable soldiers.

4. Rework vehicle handling to feel less floaty and focus on making them count.

5. Make player movement more smooth like in previous games.

6. Add first person assassinations instead of third person.

7. REMOVE all weather gimmicks completely. A little wind and rain sure but get rid of all that other BS.

8. Rework the attachment system for guns. I don't want to mess with that during combat.

9. Make playing with bots OPTIONAL.

10. Make marking enemies for your team a feature that actually works. This is a must on huge maps.

Now given how slow DICE works I think EA needs to man up and give them a year to fix, what could be, a great game.

What do you guys think? What needs to change? Are you like me willing to wait?

Nah.

8. Rework the attachment system for guns. I don't want to mess with that during combat.
Sorta. Let us do both, select in menus & change on the fly.

9. Make playing with bots OPTIONAL.
Sure.

10. Make marking enemies for your team a feature that actually works. This is a must on huge maps.
Yup.

Honestly there's too many things that need to improve to list.

With it being a couple month old the UI should or is already fixed.

Destruction needs a huge upgrade like come on that's battlefields thing.

Vehicles need to not be as floaty agreed!

All other points I'm fine with the attachment thing is fresh and useful & the weather is cool I didn't get to experience it on any of my matches though.

The most annoying things about the beta was my weapon resetting its attachments every spawn and just how bad the UI was for setting up your weapons and character in general.

Also I could not read any objective markers on a 1080p screen.

The game felt very rough, like Real Beta rough, not "Beta" rough.

I think the player movement and controls are okay and not at all worse than in other BF titles.

What is 0/10 is the HUD. I have never seen such a poorly readable and cluttered HUD in my life.

Unfortunately, you have to wonder what DICE has been doing all this time, since actually all aspects of the game have not evolved, and in some cases even regressed.

The game is woeful. At first I kind of enjoyed it but the more I played the worse it got. There is also lots of spawn camping. To be honest I had more fun with Vanguard, its not good either but the weapons felt heavier and shooting felt more impactful at least.

If they delay it they will get shit on, if they release it as planned there’s a chance they’ll only get shit on by a portion of the community.

Seems like a lose - lose situation, and they have to decide how to lose least.

Nope!

And.....

Not releasing a long awaited modern BF while COD is releasing a ww2 game from a business standpoint is foolish.

Agreed with this. This is the best time for them to pounce on COD, even though BF at its best and COD at its worse is still not going to win them the sales war.

But I agree they need to push COD at their weakest, pity they haven't got their shit together this year.

Yeah the game is a mess but people forget BF4 was a complete travesty at launch, and they eventually fixed that. I think there's a good foundation here as long as they rework the class system.

Just give us a Bad Company 3, hell I'd even take a bad company 2 remake, that's still the most fun I've ever had playing Battlefield on console. I know the PC BF players don't like that game as much but the destruction etc was just great. All they need to do is make it so you can't directly attack an enemy base so people can spawn without being destroyed if their team is losing. Add more maps that fit with that games style and destruction and call it a day. Each BF since then has gotten far less enjoyable, the focus on set pieces instead of destruction has really been disappointing, it makes me think DICE doesn't really know what makes BF fun anymore.

My biggest issues were in the order of magnitude for me

1. Specialists
2. Performance
3. HUD.

Everything else OP said I agree with except weather effects but the 3 points above are what will determine if I'll buy the game nor not.

If specialists stay, especially with the implications that future ones are season pass only, it'll be a hard pass. I don't want to be forced to buy the sp because some op specialist got released.

I think I played about 15 minutes and that was could stomach. Most of it was spent either laughing at bugs or running for minutes on end to get to an objective.

Doesn't seem ready at all.

I don't think most of the points will ever change, that was their design choice they've been working on for so long, and they gonna bet on them, and if the game flops then be it, and it'll be too late until next title. The player and vehicle movement, spotting, playing vs bots, those are the only things I believe might get eventually patched, some maybe even at launch, but I wouldn't expect stuff like added destruction or redesigned maps.

I thought the beta did a poor job. Is that like the full game or did they only demo the specialists. I was pissed off they changed the heli controls again and even worse on console, you couldn't even see the layout. I just didn't really understand what was going on. It was difficult to make out who was SL or how to issue commands like previously. I do like the new vehicle system though if I'm being honest.

Battlefield 4 was a complete mess at launch. A disaster. But the difference is underneath that mess was good gameplay.

Even if they fix all the glitches and add some of the missing features, i dont think this would be a good battlefield game. Feels like ghost recon breakpoint with control points and bots. Feels like a chinese knock off cod

I also wasn't very impressed by the beta. I know it is a beta, but damn, the game hardly had any soul or something. Killing someone has never been less satisfying than in here.

Kinda agree with your points. I do like the attachment swapping in game. Should add more speed. The weather thing? I don't pay it any mind, to be honest,so I just wouldn't know. Also didn't see it in the 3 matches I played as they all started when I joined in.

They'll get the LA team involved again no doubt about it. This can only be a good thing because the LA team actually seem to give a shit.

Plus this game runs like trash on any CPU that isn't from 2020-2021. I hope they can address that by launch Really don't think they will though.

BF4 had those odd nights where it worked for me. I was on launch PS4 and the game usually crashed, some maps had rubberbanding etc. SP progress not saving (who cares). But some nights went without issue. And as you said the core gameplay of BF4 was good at the time. I had a blast with it on those days it worked, it was a far better and more featured packed game than any BF that was released afterward.

I need team based rank system and another solo rank system , I think it will help iron out a lot of issues.

Tools for the leader to categories the squads. So that when a random person decide to join the squad they know what to expect from the squad.

i do agree it sucks (based on the beta) and would benefit from more development time but there ain't a chance it's getting delayed to next year. it'll be out this year for better or worse. anyway it's not like you need to buy it straight away...just pretend it doesn't come out until october 2022 and buy it then? you'll probably get it for cheaper too.

They have to run another Beta right? This wasn't a good look for a game coming out in just over a month.

Nah it's fine, you can wait for the next battlefield in 2 years if you want...
That's what I was going to say.

This is the last crossgen battlefield. They are trying to make a game that looks good on last gen, looks good on next gen, has new unique features (tornadoes/128 players), feels like previous battlefields... and they are not quite accomplishing any of those.

But in a couple of years, when they finally get rid of last gen consoles, they will be able to use the Zen 2 CPUs to add destructibility to the scenery, better physics, etc...

I have never played BF games, but isn't the running part similar to how BF1942 was.
I played beta for around 10 matches and I was kinda impressed. Just the character movement speed and overall "snappiness" was missing which hurts. The objective tug of war was good, people played objective for a change. It was more fun when dueling inside tunnels than on open field.

True. The UI is a terrible mess.
And the map was crap. Very poorly designed.

2. The destruction is laughable. THIS should be the big title that lets you bring everything down. Instead it's even more limited.
Agree. A decade later, and BF is still not on par with Bad Company 2.

3. Bring back the old class system and add customizable soldiers.
Also agree.

4. Rework vehicle handling to feel less floaty and focus on making them count.
Another good point. Vehicle handling was also bad.

5. Make player movement more smooth like in previous games.
Player movement has always been a bit janky on BF games. But BF 2042 made this much worse.

6. Add first person assassinations instead of third person.
Don't care much about this, either way.

7. REMOVE all weather gimmicks completely. A little wind and rain sure but get rid of all that other BS.
Completely agree.
I hate this stupid gimmick.

8. Rework the attachment system for guns. I don't want to mess with that during combat.
Also true. It's like we are playing a mobile game.

9. Make playing with bots OPTIONAL.
Bots have to go. Period.
This is a MP game. If I wanted to play with bots, I would buy a SP game.
This has to be the dumbest idea Dice ever had.

10. Make marking enemies for your team a feature that actually works. This is a must on huge maps.

No. Getting tagged and them all of the other team knowing exactly where you are, was one of the biggest issues in previous BF.
It ruins tactics. Ruins flanking and surprising the enemy.

Now given how slow DICE works I think EA needs to man up and give them a year to fix, what could be, a great game.

What do you guys think? What needs to change? Are you like me willing to wait?

Yes, there is so much to fix. They should just bite the bullet and delay the game.
At least by delaying the game, they have a chance of making something good.

Also performance is really bad. Mostly because of stutter.

BTW, you could had a vote on this question.
