If only Reddit was EA's biggest demographic for sales. Hopefully people will wise up with the bullshit they're pulling.
I think most of the responsibility will fall on the shoulders of the gaming press.
Are they gonna do as they did for da2 and sow, or are they gonna denounce the fact and give votes accordingly?

Locking Vader is really a waste of time. It shows how poorly they understand the excitement of video games.

I don't want to wait 40 hours to unlock Ryu or Ken in Street Fighter. That's like locking Sonic in Sonic Mania. Force me to beat the game 10 or more times as Tails in order to unlock Sonic.

There's talent in making games, but they really don't understand what people want. They've lost their touch.

Modern day games love hand holding and now they want to block content for really dumb reasons.

I can't believe they shut down Visceral and let this happen. The dream must be dead and this is why.

EA have the monopoly and they don’t give a ****.

They could make a real turd game, slap Star Wars on the front and still make lots of $$$. Rinse and repeat every year, it’s a formula that will never fail.

Unfortunately - or fortunately, depending on which way you see the situation - the base game is probably very good but it’s tarnished by their money grabbing practices.

SW BF 3 will be exactly the same. And 4, and 5 and any other game they slap SW on.

But you already bought the game

Soooooo
EA's stock price is banking on not only large initial sales of Battlefront II, but ongoing microtransaction payments like FIFA gets. If public sentiment turns against Battlefront II and its online play dries up in response to the grind, EA and their stock will notice.

And what would be an acceptable amount of time? Average player would take 40 hours to save up credits to unlock it and that's without using anything to unlock other things. Seems like a ridiculous amount of time... People should buy lootboxes to speed up progress... Wait a minute.
The time commitment doesn't seem like that bad to me, but I am not familiar with the balance of these characters in the game.

I know in BF1 they were overpowered, but they were special pickups.

sadly the execs do not care. As long as the bottom line is good, if they piss off some customers while making enough money off of the others, and the whales, they're fine with it. they'll give lip service, but nothing is going to change. It's only going to get worse.
Let's hope the wallets follow the downvotes.

Also, this is quite important to know as consumers:
https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBa...ork_in_electronic_media_pr_ill_tell_you_what/
"This means that one or two days (or weeks or months) of complaining will not get them to change their mind regarding the nature of the progression system. They will not truly "fix" it because they believe that it's working as intended and their accountants and marketing guys will tell them that it is. A certain amount of players are supposed to get sick of it and stop playing. That's built-in to the calculations, like when Wal-Mart assumes that there will be a certain amount of shoplifting."

Yup

Just saw a local gaming site post about this on Facebook and literally everyone in the comments was defending the game:

"Modern gamers want everything to be handed to them, that's why modern games are so easy"

"Lol people like to complain about everything, god forbid you have to actually work to get the better skills and heroes"

"There's already like 8 heroes unlocked from the start so this isn't an issue"

In the end we are sadly in the minority. For every 300.000 upset about this there are 3000000 who couldn't care less.

I like how they tried to hide the real bullshit behind loot crate pseudo controversy

This hero unlock shit is so unsurprisingly similar to galaxy of heroes

Fuck EA

This might be the first year they would actually deserve worst company in America

The problem is that only one person can be each hero at a time so the person with the expensive heroes will likely be a hero the entire game (blatant example of pay to win)
Actually GoH is pretty generous with free heroes and free stuff. I would say BF2 manages to be boty greedier on the front and back end.

Probably doesn't mean anything, but I threw in a downvote also. I hope people do the right thing and vote with their wallet, because all the downvoting in the world won't mean anything if folks are still playing the game and spending money.

So I have this preordered twice (PC and Xbox) b/c I didn't know where I wanted to play. It was -20% GCU and -$10 each BB gift certs, so ~$38 each.

But I could cancel one and still be sticking it to the man, right?

Oh well the grind would make it impossible to jump back and forth between platforms anyways. Thanks EA!

Well, it's not only the gaming, it affects anything that surrounds us. As soon as the transformation with everything as a service is complete, you're going to pay for everything you can't even imagine yet.
you are missing my point though. The consumer is willing to spend money on this kind of junk so it is getting more and more common.

It is no different when dlc first started out. Remember how all the developers used to say they would never cut content out for dlc... does anyone still believe that? The consumer was more then willing to spend money so of course companies would release even more dlc then. Its no different with loot boxes, the consumer was willing to spend money on it they companies keep stuffing it in our face.

i always wondered what would happened if ppl straight up refused to buy the first dlc's during the last console gen.

the sad part of all this, you know the game will sell 1+million copies as well..

The details on this game seem to be getting worse by the hour!

My copy is going to be returned for a full refund, I was too late to stop the order from being processed.

But reaching max lv in COD takes like, what? 30 hours?.

That's not even one hero in Battlefront 2
Hmmm good point. How many heros are there and what’s the approx time it would take to unlock them all?havent really paid any attention till now. Thanks in advance

It feels more like an admission of guilt rather than a responding to a negative reaction.

And this is how it feels: "We know we're really gouging you, so here's 25% off credits on Jar Jar Binx"

I'm 35 and I've gamed my whole life and I pretty much wont buy a Capcom, EA,or UBI game anymore.

SF5 will be the last Capcom game I ever buy, obvious reasons.
For Honor is one of the coolest concepts ever, UBI went cheap on the servers and blew it
The last Star Wars Battlefront game is why I'm done buying EA games

That's not to say I wont be playing them, but these companies will not be getting my money anymore until they stop putting half their products behind season passes and P2W systems.

Pretty spot on.
However monster hunter is still great.

If you preorder it digitally you can play it tonight, but if you order the physical copy of the deluxe edition you have to wait until you have in in hand.

"Based on what we've seen in the trial"

Sssuuuurreee it was.
Still so arrogantly dishonest.
Yep, as if they wouldn't know exactly how many hours of play it's estimated to take to unlock the heroes. They even know how many calendar days, that's half of the reason why XP gating mechanisms exist at all.

Speaking as a former, heavy purchaser of games I am a lot more rational and tactical around buying games. This is exactly the reason that I am the way that I am now.

I'll do the same as I did with Battlefront 1. I'll wait until it is £6 all in digitally. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a good game and very good eye candy but bollocks to all of the micro purchase shenanigans.

Good god it's almost at 700k downvotes.

Can you imagine what could happen if people actually followed through with their anger?

Imagine if all 700 thousand people there, and anyone else out here who is dissatisfied with that game, truly refused to buy it?

It would send a clear message to EA. They would change their production structure very, very quickly.
