ELDEN RING is the best selling title of February 2022 and the best selling game of 2022 so far in the US

I love how delusional this comment is.

1 game was our for 1 week, while the other was out after that 1 week, while also being multiplat.

Plus that game is much better than hfw.
How does that invalidate anything? It's no wonder that it was you that came to downplay what I said.
Again: You're not fooling anyone.

If by "open world dark souls" you mean the open world with the best level design out there and almost zero handholding to guide the player through it, then yeah, I guess it is.

I have played lots of open world games, but believe me, there's no world like this one.
That's the thing, souls games have always had great world design and have been semi open world/instanced worlds since it existed.

There's nothing surprising about the game to me. Maybe others downplayed souls games but they were always like this.

Ps5 was abysmal in February despite launching its biggest games so far. Sony should be delaying games to catch up with hardware. But we will see what happens. Hyping games up when they can’t sell it to people makes little sense. Actually maybe their cross gen strategy is there because of this.
Why delay games that are cross gen? Yea, they have 120 million ps4's out there. They will have cross gen games for a while.

Sony games have prestiges. No denying in that.
But what I disagree with that comment, is making it seem like Elden ring had no competition to HFW.

People knew what HFW was. We had gameplays, and tons of trailers and ads. But no one knew what elden ring was.

People were skeptical about buying it first, due to dark souls. But it subverted that expectation.
That's not what was said, though? I said specifically that Sony games now have prestige. You assumed stuff that wasn't written.
Everyone knew Elden Ring was gonna be Dark Souls + BOTW.
You're not fooling anyone.

someone has not played the game and thinks reviewers are all just idiots.....

Then they would delay games until 2023 or 2024. PS5 owners want to play the best version of these games now. How long would you want them to delay?

I agree that Sony's lineup is very strong in 1H. This is the best case scenario for MS. Matching PS5 sales in the first half of the year is a big win since Sony is throwing out high quality games right now and Ghostwire Tokyo is still coming.

I feel like Elden Ring hype was so much it kind of took the attention away from Horizon, Sifu and Gran Turismo. I thought these games would have been hyped to hell like xbox lineup in the second half of 2021.
I mean especially in the Japanese market, having more stock available while games like Elden ring , GT7, and Stranger FF launch is crucial. They literally dropped 2-3 huge bangers back to back with no consoles available.

I disagree to some level. For me previous souls games weren't open world at all... More like a 3D metroidvania, specially Bloodborne and Dark Souls with all the shortcuts and interconectivity.

Seeing this same level of polish and level design, but at a much, much larger scale... That's really surprising imo, specially since most open worlds are a copy&paste fest of towers, enemy camps and shit like that.

Delaying games would be terrible for them. Look at Miles Morales. It always comes back every time a huge shipment of PS5 happens.
That's why this gen will last a lot longer. Sony will want to sell these games for a long time...and with a lot less discounts for that reason unfortunately.
I mean u can argue that sure the games sell again when there’s ps5 stock. We shall see. I def do see demons souls and ratchet coming back up in the digital charts here and there.

So Elden ring sold more on steam and xbox in US ? yeah US Market is strong for MS
No, it sold most on Playstation. It sold more than Horizon Forbidden West if you combine Playstation, xbox and steam numbers for Elden Ring but Elden Ring still sold the most copies on Playstation.

Also interesting is that Halo is nowhere to be seen in the charts but Battlefield 2042 is still there.

I mean, i think you'd have to be crazy to say there isn't any copy and paste in this.

There are tons of similar bosses, soldiers with just diff color clothing, repetitive as shit especially if you're a completionist like me.

Also the bosses are not as amazing as other souls game so far and I'm finding the game super easy but I am nowhere near the end based on how I play.

it's def one of the best souls games but imo sekiro and bloodborne are just way better. They brought innovative gameplay and none of these broken ash arts, ashe summon support, broken magic spells etc.

What polish?
  • Dragons that float in the air, while standing.
  • Borderline broken bosses and enemies.
  • Insane pop-in.
  • Framerate and resolution lmao.
  • Marika statues that don't work.
No other souls game before was as glitch filled and cheap as this one.

By copy and paste content, you mean:
  • Copied and pasted knight camps on every map?
  • Catacombs and Tunnels on every map?
  • Ruins with enemies leading to underground sections with a few enemies and a chest?
  • Churches with a grace site and sacred tear?
  • Monoliths with map fragments on every map?
I mean, yeah, stop idolizing this game, it has the same bloat other open world games have.

I’m super happy for From. Maybe this success (and buckets of money) will allow them to build a more visually dazzling sequel.

You're out of your mind. DS1s release version on PS3/360 was significantly worse. Blight Town could get to sub 15 fps.
So? They've been releasing unpolished games since they started making games. I played all of them.
Actually, you're right, they did worse before.

Halo is free to play and probably doesn’t track the digital sales of the campaign (dlc) vs the physical combo retail sales. It still charted platform specific. Same with Forza. Forza Horizon 3 (pre game pass) wasnt some combined chart topper either. They’re still successful games…

Digital sales of the campaign are tracked.

It just did poorly in sales, as did FH5 which isn't free to play.

Does anyone know how close the UK sales ratios hold up to NPD, historically speaking? Also how big is the UK market in comparison to the US market? Because we can probably figure out HFW sales numbers if they're fairly consistent.

SteamSpy mentioned roughly 5 million copies for Elden Ring already on Steam. Let's say 40% were in NA, 30% in Europe, 15% in Japan and 15% in other territories. Then let's say the UK platform ratio holds true globally, so 40% PS, 30% PC, 30% Xbox.

That could put global Elden Ring sales at around 16.5 million. Of that the platform split would be 6.6 million PS, 4.95 million PC, and 4.95 million Xbox. Now let's say the marketshare percentages for PlayStation lined up with 40% NA, 30% Europe, 15% Japan, 15% other territories. That'd give Elden Ring NA sales on PS at 2.64 million.

So, if HFW was the better-selling of the two on PlayStation, then it's possible it's sold at least 2.64 million copies in February, in NA.

I’ll just take the word of the guy who this thread is based on

YTD Pokemon Still #2 in the NPD chart Without Digital, And HFW include digital. So, Horizon didn’t beat Pokemon.

Amazing news. Hope this tell industry how important art direction are to games.

Can't really understand why Sony fans are so salty about.

Says the person, who brought up this prestige in the 1st place.

People buy games, when they are available. It's common knowledge.

That prestige thing has nothing to do, to why people bought HFW.

Do you assume the UK split is the same all around the world or do you have a source for global split?

SteamSpy mentioned roughly 5 million copies for Elden Ring already on Steam.

Where is that 5m Steamspy number from?
I see 10m-20m but the site is highly unreliable anyway.
Estimates based on number of reviews like the one steamdb is showing are more reliable these days.

What are you talking about. The game sold best on PlayStation by a significant margin. Without "Sony fans" From would be out of business.

HFW had 9 days for sales on NPd, while Elden ring had 2 days.

That is why elden ring sold less on PS last month.

Why has barely anyone bought Babylon's Fall?
And, yeah, a person talked about Horizon, I mentioned its prestige among the industry. Don't know why that's bothering you.
The game has prestige. That doesn't undermine ER's. At all. It's just a fact. Stop being triggered over stuff that wasn't said.
Stop assuming things.

It has more hype than I thought it would and it should have legs too. People have to have become hesitant after Cyberpunk, New World, GTA Trilogy etc. and I expect many more to buy it throughout the year.
