She only approved them to use her likeness if it was smiling?

edit - joke ruined by thread title change.

Last year? Sure.

Release? Get bent, Ellen.

Hey, lady, this way you get to be in an actual video game that also happens to be good.

Please don't be angry.

I thought they changed Ellie's design a bit to reduce the similarity that they had originally mentioned themselves.

I have to wonder what's up with Sony devs and their interest in her.

They don't look all that similar in the release version of The Last of Us. Her comment is misplaced.

They definitely changed Ellie to look less like Ellen Page because of Beyond. Not all that much of a resemblance in the final game.

Didn't ND change the facial features a bit... to not look like Ellen Page. Mission failed?

Didn't they changed Eliie's design during development BECAUSE people kept seeing Ellen Page?

It was never intentional on their part. Neil even said that they felt embarrassed when it was brought to their attention because Ellie is supposed to be Ashley's character. So they did as much as they could to change Ellie to resemble her more.

It was either Grounded documentary for TLOU or the Vics Basement podcast with the CDs when they mentioned this but according to them they honestly didn't realise how much Ellie looked like Ellen Page until they saw a trailer they had made and they were like 'ooooooh shit!' It was hilarious the way the talked about it and seemed quite genuine. Seems more coincidence rather than anything.

I'm pretty sure every small, brunette white girl will look kind of similar to Ellen Page.

To be honest, I didn't even think of Ellen Page when I saw Ellie in Last of Us. Don't know what she's on about.

Loved her in Juno, haven't seen much of her afterwards.

She was good in Inception

Ah right, thanks for the explanation. Guess I got that and Beyond a bit jumbled up since I couldn't stop hearing about the Ellen Page likenesses being drawn upon the reveal.

Yeah, no kidding. The "lol Ellen Page" thing has been even more annoying than the "lol half-tuck" previous Naughty Dog lazy blurt-out criticism. Ellie looked like Page, apparently, no matter how they changed her appearance, because both are short, young white girls with dark hair. They must be twins! Ugh.

It did look like her in the initial trailer but her looked changed and I don't see the great resemblance anymore.
