Embracer Group(formerly THQ Nordic AB) acquires Metro developer 4A Games

Only a matter of time, this always seemed like natural thing to happen. Although I am surprised MS did not acquire them first (if they were open to it), could have been great addition.

Embracer has quite a few big studios now, Volition, Dambuster, Warhorse, 4A Games, Saber Interactive, Coffee Stain, Milestone, Black Forest, Bugbear, Piranha Bytes, Gunfire...

It has become one of the largest publishers quite quickly. Hopefully Lars can keep it all above water.

Amusing to see spergs at retardera still sperging about it, to the point where they have to flat out lie ("they never apologized"). Buncha fuckwits.

4A was bought by Saber, which is owned by Embracer and has a gigantic Russian studio. 4A is split between Malta and Ukraine.

"Saber solidifies its position as a leader in the CIS and Ukrainian game developer market.

Embracer Group and Saber Interactive are the perfect partners for 4A Games and for our next phase of growth. Together we will continue to build on the Metro franchise and will focus on bringing a multiplayer experience to our fanbase. We look forward to building a new and even more ambitious AAA IP in the near future" says Dean Sharpe, CEO 4A Games

Within the Embracer Group, 4A Games will operate as an independent studio under Saber Interactive. 4A Games will significantly strengthen Saber's development capabilities in Ukraine and are currently collaborating on an entirely new project that combines the AAA production values of 4A Games, combined engine and technology know-how and Saber's experience on multiplayer and live operations. 4A Games has also initiated development on a brand new AAA IP that leverages its decade of experience on developing the Metro series.

Conceived in 2005 when the studio was first established, the 4A Games' development engine has powered all 4A Games' titles to date and is constantly improved in-house to stay at the forefront of innovation in the industry. Natively multi-platform and scalable with robust functionality and integrations, 4A Games' proprietary engine offers leading technology for single player FPS development and compliments Saber Interactive's development and live operations technology. "

The 4A engine is actually a fork of Stalker's X-Ray; GSC accused them of stealing it when the teams split in 2005 but eventually dropped the matter. A few years ago the original Metro tech demo and source code leaked and confirmed it was X-Ray. It can even run Stalker maps.

I always thought it would make a good fit for either Xbox Studios or Playstation Studios.

Oh well curious for what they are working on next

I'm so sure Embracer is a laundering money operation. I've been following THQ Nordic footsteps since 2016 and the whole business is shady as fuck.

Oles Shishkovtsov was the lead programmer on XRay and he's the CTO of 4A. Probably a lot of XRay IP is still his own. Pretty hard to win here.
Anyway. 4A need a good art team. Right now their art is atrocious compared to GSC...

What a pos statement which has nothing to do with reality. 4As art team was better even 10 years ago and it's miles better now in anything GSC ever did for all S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games combined (excluding S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 which is not even released yet). Moreover, almost all 4A devs are ex-GSC and all they did for the past 13-14 is making much better games which they couldn't ever done under GSC. It took them two games to do it, but they did it.

Happy for my boys at Palindrome, Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars is shaping up quite nicely!

Didn't know about Vermila Studios but their game looks interesting, at least art wise. Nice to see the Spanish scene growing!

Metro looks like "programmer's art" to this day. Sorry.
Stalker did a much better job with inferior tech.

I mean 4A was like half of the GSC team.
