Huh? No, some junior said that there's no way Nvidia's involved after Hot Chips. It's like people don't know what these events are for. The new Tegra is primarily targeted at automotive, so that's what they're going to focus on. It's like saying that NX definitely won't support any kind of multimedia if the reveal is focused on games. People need to learn to stay neutral and to stop trying to "prove" that they're right. Just look at the evidence, and consider all of it. I can't really blame someone for leaning toward AMD, but the people saying that Nvidia can't be involved because the primary target for Tegra is now cars are just being silly.

Still weird he just random send you a pm.
And he did got some inside info about Nvidia?

Oh, and I just get a PM from someone saying that Hot Chips confirmed that Nvidia isn't involved.

Tuesday at 2PM EST it seems. So that's a potential goal today... hopefully. :(

Maybe it wouldn't matter if they didn't do September 13th THREE TIMES!

September 13th, 2006: Wii event (note it was 9PM EST on the 13th when it the event was in Japan)
September 13th, 2011: 3DS event
September 13th, 2012: Wii U event

God I hope this is the date, I'm going abroad for a week on the 15th and I really don't want to miss the unveiling.
As in I'd like to see it in high quality video on my TV instead of low quality hotel WiFi on my phone. :p

He posted in the locked thread a few days ago. He's just one of Dave's fans. He feels that there's no evidence of Nvidia being involved, which means that they're not involved.

There are attempts to generate discussion but somehow always ends up in the same loop probably due to lack of knowledge in the general topics or just wanting to be silly instead of speculation fun.

For instance some people keep insisting on a handheld the size of the 3DS. We know Nintendo has considered a handheld as large as the gamepad. So there is a wide degree of ranges they can go including in the power spectrum. Limiting thought to it must be like everything before it because 3DS kills speculation.
Your links with Iwata stating that Nintendo wanted to
make the Wii U as one big portable unit is definitely interesting. If NX is close to the size of the Gamepad, what would be the max power comsumption when considering battery size and a reasonable price?

Last 2 events and launches weren't the luckiest, so I would expect Nintendo to move away from that date.

It feels like you guys are being too sensitive to SMD's comments.

I just want to bring that up, because it genuinely upsets me that you bash a pretty chill dude who simply loves to talk about Nintendo NX and Nintendo's future. That's all I have to say.

Continue your NX discussion.

Two is a coincidence. Three is a pattern.

So in a sense. Sony did get ahead of Nintendo but Nintendo were probably planning September 13th anyway.

Don't want to get people's hopes up and all.
As mentioned by others, if there is a live event or Nintendo Direct where press try the NX before or afterwards. Would obviously be hoping someone leaks a press invite. (Those usually have been under NDA though.)

So do we think the carts will be using the same flash memory as an SSD and we can expect fast loading times?

Or will it be like 3DS and still have some load times?

Will this be the Rare case where physical media versions of games will run better than digital versions of games? (unless Nintendo bundles small SSD with their units)

I don't mind the guy, but it doesn't make much sense to keep posting his stuff as if it's at all to related to an actual NX dicussion, when his content is all based on pure speculations (that doesn't even make much sense in most cases) or obviously false rumors (see his latest venture).

This topic is just following the other NX topic, and that one got closed for a reason. There's some interesting discussion once in a while but I feel it gets overshadowed by unrelated things.

Right. The guy who posted only in the last 24 hours this:

Lol , that is the most pathetic and sad piece of reaching I've ever seen. A CPU function for game apps?Seriously?

https://twitter.com/SMetaldave64/status/767802537969721344

I don't want to make now a big post with all his attacks on twitter and in videos, but the guy is anything but a chill dude.

I think we shouldn't give him so much attention and I didn't want to talked about him anymore as this thread is not the place, but straight lying to victimise him is not OK either.

It's just one comment that isn't meant to be taken seriously as said in his newest video.

It's pretty clear to see once you get to know him and his personality through watching most of his videos.

Anyways, I'm straight out done with this.

" that is the most pathetic and sad piece of reaching I've ever seen" looks like a joke to you? Really?

edit: posting something that is false and that you have no intention to discuss about is straight up drive-by shit-posting, do you realise that?

I don't want to take things off-topic either but it just amazes me that some people can easily believe anything that they are told.

I'm not referring to SuperMetalDave specifically, it's just that we have people that think either NX is AMD or Nvidia or DMP for the GPU. I have spent my time scrutinising all three yet, there are people that easily believe what they are being told either because they want to believe it or they don't want to question things to find out the truth.

Just, wow.

(And for one example that matches up with my experience of why I couldn't manage to get a proper argument from anyone outside of here. All I had on Twitter was that one guy who pretended he couldn't see the source of the article I showed that disproved his claim so he bid good day to me. lol)

Talking in absolutes when we have nothing confirmed and no evidence seems like a bad idea to me. Unless it's to win a personal bet. I strongly believe the handheld will be Nvidia based thanks to NateDrake and Eurogamer (proven track records), but since the NX is a platform as Nintendo have said in the past, that means there could be a home console in the future that uses the NX platform with completely different AMD chips. This dosnt contradict NateDrake and Eurogamer. It makes sense to stick with the same chips supplier for future iterations, but it's also smart to make a platform that doesn't rely on the same chip supplier going forward in the future. And still keep backward and forward compatibility. Nintendo made reference to iOS and Android after all.

Honestly people should be happy Nvidia is the gpu supplier. They make better gpus than amd and get more performance per watt. They make mobile SoC thar fit Nintendos philosophy for handhelds. They have better driver support. They're also hungry to prove what they can do in the mobile SoC sector.

I think the people against Nvidia are against it because they think that means there won't be a home console. But there could be a more powerful one down the line (perhaps Nintendos answer to the 4k enthusiast crowd) but it would also likely be an Nvidia chip.

So how many people actually expect the initial NX reveal will just be a direct with no simultaneous press event?

I personally think they'll do a direct/digital event but have the press come to an event to demo it the same day or the day before, but if this is happening then we would likely hear about invites rather soon. Unless the invites come with NDAs but at that point that doesn't make any sense.

September 13th does seem like the best date for a number of reasons, but there's no telling that they're on track for that date. As some have said they likely need to have a working prototype, so that could be one point of failure for reaching that date. If it is, then that lends a bit more credence to the idea that the NX is using a Pascal based chip, since some are reporting yield problems with 16nm processes, which could cause delays in getting prototypes ready. This wouldn't be an issue with TX1s or similar Maxwell chips, right? That could be reaching a bit though.

Thoughts?

I think it's safe to assume that the NX cardriges would be very similar to the DS and 3DS ones. Macronix was already talking about their NX involvement. So I guess there will still be loading times.

Besides that, I guess somebody already asked that question, but what do you guys think how japanese handheld thirds would deal with it. Do you think they would have problems with the jump from SD to HD? Or is that already a silly question these day and they should be totally capable of it?

All I care about are the games at this point. I don't care which Tegra chip it has. The games will look great as far as I'm concerned. Let me just see Nintendos games! I want to see the next Mario and Retros new game already...

The only reason for there to not be a press event is if it's not ready to be shown, and if that's the case it's not releasing anywhere near March. Final boards should already be complete.

This is a lot to go through.

If they have near-final NX units ready that can function. They will surely have the press try out the NX on initial reveal and have to have them tethered to something so that they don't get stolen.

Press invites have always come with NDAs, that's why some guys said that they're going somewhere but can't mention what for. Problem is we can't probably dig up if this happened in the other 13th of September events in the previous years.

They're not having to mass produce units yet, they only need enough for press. Mass production will happen some time later when things are finalised and by how many units they are planning to ship.

Even if it would be a Digital Event+Press event scenario, I would expect them to announce the Digital Event a few weeks before, just to build up anticipation and pre-hype. So there will be more people to watch the event. Or even streamers could plan to make one of these live-reaction-streams like they do during e3 press conferences and stuff.
We should keep in mind it would be a console reveal. The first impression for a new system. It's way more important than the info on a direct.

Are we ignoring the last few years of Nintendo Directs and Digital Events?
I know that NX is a brand new console, but

  • Nintendo skipped a live conference at E3 (the most important fair of the world, I'd say) since 2013
  • Nintendo announced the New 3DS/XL with a Direct
  • Nintendo announced a 2DS with a PR sheet
  • Nintendo announced the original Nintendo 3DS with a PR sheet (not saying that this will be the case here of course: timing before release are too tight)
  • Nintendo announced the NES classic with a PR sheet

In none of those hw-related occasion the press had the chance to actually test the hw itself, being forced to wait weeks/months to do that and give direct impressions.

The Tweet response was made to me and I didn't engage in discussing it. I advise folks to do the same here.

Good advice.

Back on topic, did we noted that Nvidia Sheild chipset chipset is already small enough to fit inside a portable? That's good news. As Antonz was saying, I also don't think this potable will be small, so have some space to play with inside the case.

Even if there isn't anything to be shown, they could do what Sony did and reveal the controller only with the name and a bunch of trailers and specs.

Well if it's the rumored hybrid then they wouldn't really be able to show the controller if the console hardware isn't ready. Since the console is the controller.

This is a lot to go through.

If they have near-final NX units ready that can function. They will surely have the press try out the NX on initial reveal and have to have them tethered to something so that they don't get stolen.

Ah I wasn't aware of the bolded. I would think that would be kind of pointless, since the company is sending so many invites that something would be bound to leak. Then again, I guess I don't know how the relationship between Nintendo and the press at these events work.

And I know they won't need to mass produce millions of these things yet, but if they're having production troubles with even the few needed to be shown off then that can (but not necessarily) indicate that they are indeed using cutting edge, brand new tech. Which is exciting coming from Nintendo.

Edit:

Are we ignoring the last few years of Nintendo Directs and Digital Events?

I would think Nintendo would want to be super clear and communicative about what the NX is and what it can do in order to avoid any Wii U-esque confusion, and inviting the press to come actually see it, hold it and experience it would greatly help them clarify their messaging. I guess you never know with Nintendo though.

Assuming no NDA for press invites.

Are Mega64 doing anything to promote the event, because this may as well be considered a digital event outside of E3 where we could even have treehouse live footage.

There's no reason why there needs to be a livestreamed press event. They could just have a private showing to press shortly before and embargo all coverage until after the Direct (or whatever they call the hypothetical prerecorded stream) is over.

Whether there should be a livestreamed press event is, of course, a different question.

Do 3DS games have loading times outside of saving the game? Overtime I use a PS4, I'm shocked by how long everything takes.

If it's being revealed in early september a direct is more likely but afaik the last one was leaked hours before it aired so they'll most likely avoid it. A late September/early October reveal seems more and more likely.
