CCP states EVE: Valkyrie's Oculus co-publishing deal was exclusive to the PC, game coming to PS4

Sony has announced its VR headset, called Project Morpheus, at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, but one of the larger surprises in the evening was the fact that the CCP-developed, and Oculus co-published title EVE Valkyrie would be playable on the hardware.

It's rare to see a game published by one platform holder be used in the marketing of another, but it seems as if Oculus' publishing deal was only for the PC.

"We partnered with Oculus VR to bring EVE: Valkyrie exclusively to the Oculus Rift on PC and we are thrilled to be working with Sony to bring EVE: Valkyrie to the PS4 with Project Morpheus," a CCP spokesperson told Polygon. We reached out to Oculus for comment, and have yet to hear back.
So you'll need a Rift for the PC version, but the Oculus deal doesn't preclude them from porting the game to consoles.

Does using a Samsung TV stop you from playing a game on a Panasonic TV? The platform is still the PC.

Whoah I wasn't aware Sony had actually announced the VR yet. That other bread needs a title change I assume?

When they previously talked about this, they did confirm the exclusivity didn't include consoles, but they also suggested it wasn't forever on PC either, I think it will come to non-Rift VR units on PC.

Its obvious Sony would jump on the chance for EvE valkyre, its really the only 'real' VR game that has any real release window.

Both devices are going to need as many games to entice people to get onboard.

Man, space sims are absolutely perfect for VR. I can't wait for Valkyrie and Star Citizen.

edit: Car sims could be great too. Sony should seriously consider retooling Gran Turismo and/or Driveclub.

"Wonder if they will release a flight stick for the game"

Alternatively, They could just support the several USB flight sticks that already exist.

Even though Dust 514 wasn't the biggest hit I'm glad CCP hasn't given up in the console space.

I'm shocked really. I assumed Dust was a flop (was it?). I played the beta and thought it had a lot of potential but a lot of problems too. It woudln't fix everything I thought was wrong with it but I feel like they made a mistake releasing it for PS3 and should have waited for PS4.

The Thrustmaster Hotas worked on the PS3, for some reason. Also, the Thrustmaster Hotas is a great name for both a gaming peripheral and a porn star.

That was probably the reason why it wasn't PS4 exclusive like it was rumored to be. Dust514 averages about 3000 concurrent players these days, which is in the ballpark or worse than low budget indie shooters on Steam.

Well, most USB controllers work on PS3 just fine, it's just a matter of whether they map properly in the game. I tried using an old Sidewinder USB joystick for Afterburner and it almost worked but of course the buttons were all over the place.

So is this only for VR or will I be able to sit back with the DS4 and play Eve Online on my TV?

Its not Eve Online, its a separate game that will play completely different just uses the same universe and such.

There is nooooo way Eve Online would be playable with a controller lol.

Talking about Eve Online though I hope it gets Oculus Rift integration as well. While it dosnt play the same I think viewing the ships from the inside and such would be really immerse and work just fine.

If it's like the PC, it'll be VR exclusive. I'm pretty sure they're building it around VR as in you won't be able to play without head-tracking to look at cockpit segments individually and what-not.

Also this won't be connected to EVE Online.

Really hope they port Dust 514 to PS4, it would really benefit from the stronger tech, plus it being F2P on a system that is known to have F2P is also a benefit. I play BlackLight Retribution on PS4 and I'm pretty sure it has a decent size player base. Not CoD or BF4 levels, but enough to find games at any given time.

Ah shit lol. Well now i need to go read up about Valkyrie then. I'm at a loss as to how the game will function outside of the Eve online universe. Even Dust was integrated ... atleast tried to be somewhat anyway.

They could easily just go in and create 1st person models of the various ships in the game, and then add that into Eve Online as a view change option.

But yeah, would prob be cheaper just to build a brand new engine from the ground up with twitch flying as the forefront scheme lol.

for sure it would be more popular than Blacklight on the PS4

I will buy this game even though I never played any other games in the EVE-verse.
but i've read a lot about those epic EVE space battles and betrayals.
edit: do we even have a potential time frame for this? When is the PC version supposed to come out?

As far as I can tell, the ships you're piloting in Eve Online aren't the same scale as the ones in Eve Valkyrie. The ships in Valkyrie are basically the size of Combat Drones in Eve Online.

It's supposed to launch with the Oculus Rift, but we don't know of when Oculus is releasing yet.

For sure, although Blacklight isn't a bad game (I actually find it really really fun), it has problems but hopefully that will be fixed. The first patch they did already added co-op horde mode with 2 maps unique to it, 2 new regular maps, and bunch of bug fixes, and finally complete 60 fps optimization. :D

I would love to see Dust 514 in 60 FPS. I mean, I'm not a person who would be angry at 30 FPS, but Dust 514 always felt... Below even 30, it was weighty, but not the same as Killzone weight... It's kind of hard to describe it.

lol, F. Of course.

lol Let's wait till tomorrow since Oculus will be presenting tomorrow. Who knows, they might announce the consumer version, but more than likely will only announce the second development kit. It'll be interesting tomorrow for them.

This was a little surprising, but not completely shocking after the previous Dust 514 relationship.

I don't think anybody really knew that the terms of the Oculus agreement were only for a PC version of the title.

It's not a bad thing by any means though, as more exposure can only be good for something that's already gotten some pretty rave reviews. Could certainly be the killer app for modern VR, no matter the platform.

I'll be honest though. It seems like some hardcore PC/OR fans are butthurt about Eve VR coming to PS4.. Whatever, I don't really care.

I've experienced it and I can't wait.

I'm all in on VR. I'm planning on getting OR's next dev kit and whenever the Morpheus comes out.
