Eventually Nintendo will have to move to HDTV ...blu-ray?

I'm not as deluded as I make myself out to be
will that mean they'll have to have a Sony part in their machine? or will they produce their own games only format?

(I assume Blu-Ray will win, purely because of the strength of the PS3 and so on. Can't see it not surviving at least.)

Looking at the DS and Rev its clear to me that they don't care about graphics. Their next console (in 2011 or something) will probably have HD support though.

Until then things might be different, whatever optical media they go for will likely be proprietary. If they adopt movie playback I imagine they'll go with the standard, be that DVD, HD-DVD or Blu-ray(which btw, isn't entirely a Sony format).

There are other companies making BD drives... like Panasonic. Also, this won't be an issue for another 5 years.

what is the formatt that was said to be in the works that HDDVD was really created as a place holder until it was ready?

Blu-Ray isn't just a Sony format.

It's supported by a consortium of companies just like DVD was.

Nintendo would probably opt to get Panasonic/Matsushita to give them drives in that case.

HVD? (Holographic Video Disc)

Doubt anyone would use it for games, especially Nintendo. Firstly it's expensive and, secondly, it's something ridiculous like 200Gb storage on each layer

Always a generation late, typical Nintendo.

Nonsense on so many levels.

Aren't DVDs too small to store HD material?

Just thought it would be interesting if Nintendo adopted a Sony-backed format and maybe the lack of choices affected their decision somewhat for the Revolution.

Not worried about revolutions graphics, Nintendo knows it has to meet a minimum requirement. If it looks 2 times as good as RE4 or Black, not a problem is it?

But eventually enough people will have HDTVs and it will be the standard and they'll be moving up.

DVDs are just fine for HD content. The Xbox 360 uses DVDs. Even the original Xbox could do HD, it was only limited by it's hardware, not disc format.

They went this whole generation without supporting DVDs for the GCN, what makes you think that they will support Blu-Ray if it can, a format that will take years to catch on, for Revolution?

well seeing that the 360 makes their game with DVD-9 and their external HD-DVD player isn't for games at all why would nintendo have to make a change? Saying Nintendo will have to make a change is like saying the DS or the PSP would have to play HD-DVD or Blu-Ray.

Developers make games for the DS dont they on the cartridge? why wouldn't they for a revolution disc? Nintendo wont' have to change. They probably should. But they wont have too.
