Cis white male protagonists.
As a latinx, I literally can't play those games without crying for forcing me to roleplay as an oppressor.

What gets me riled up is people who complain about clipping like it’s a small feat to get rid of.

This thread is really just easy way to find the psychopaths.

-Forced walking
-Having to tap a button (I’m glad some games now give us the option to just hold the button)
-Unskippable cutscenes
-having to defend someone or something (which normally is just kill these waves of enemies and then we can proceed)
-Being timed

Forced single player in multiplayer games and vice versa. People only complain when there’s no single player but no one really gives a shit when a single player game doesn’t have a multiplayer component.

Games being forced to add some bullshit progression system just so people feel validated in putting there time into a game. Make a great game and none of that shit is needed. Just put the effort into the game itself and a proper ranking system

Menus. Every game nowadays has the most over designed bullshit that makes me want to just turn the game off instantly. Mostly online games even though that shit will be flooding most SP games now too. Screens just littered with trash that I don’t even know what I’m looking at.

- Unskippable cutscenes
- "Interactive" unskippable cutscenes (worse than skippable cutscenes TBH, Days Gone / Ghosts of Tsushima some examples)
- Long animations for things you do 10,000 times that are basically mini-unskippable cutscenes (Breath of the Wild, I'm looking at you)
- Any part of a game where you play as a 2nd character randomly with limited pretty much pointless gameplay (Witcher 3, Spiderman some examples)

I just want to play games as my character I build up/get skilled at and choose whether I want to actually participate in "narrative" portions.

A lot of Sony games I have a love/hate relationship w/ because they seem to be littered with much of the above. And no, forced cutscenes aren't usually "loading screens in disguise".. those are forgivable, but honestly I'd rather just have a skippable cutscene + loading screen if I choose to skip. Better games will have the start of a cutscene not skippable and then let you skip once background loading is done.. but games that just outright never let you skip cutscenes? Pretty clear it's a design choice not a technical "trick."

But if you get rid of cutscenes, the game will be shorter, the studio will get less budget and all the egotistical writers and graphic artists will complain everyone is skipping seeing their work!

There is a lot of reasons that make me hate this game. But one of the biggest is that it has some stealth missions. And all of then are really boring.

How about this great one in EA Sports.

On first boot up, the game some reason forces you into a canned championship match up between last years finalists with some unskippable cut scenes. Then you got to get out of it so you can go to the menu screen and do what you want.

Who knows. Maybe the two teams in the finals pays EA to do this to promote their teams.

I think it's more the latter deal.. some really long games have forced cutscenes, or really boring / long forced walking sections.

Man I really wish they'd update Ghosts of Tsushima to:

a) Let you skip cutscenes
b) Let you "skip to mission area" during the forced / pointless walking and talking sections where you escort someone to a mission

I'd gladly buy the PS5 patch + DLC if they added those things.. as it stands I'm reluctant to give Sony more money because of it all.

Hoping a PC release happens and modders hack that shit in lol

Holding down a button until a circle fills in when you select something. As far as I can remember this started with Destiny and now every game does it 😑 I'm sure developers think it's more interactive but it's actually just annoying.

Makes me want to put my foot through the tv when i encounter this. Its especially infuriating after you've finished the game and you still can't skip the cutscenes.

Aliased hair textures made out of transparent cardboards that looks like it was made 20 years ago. It really pisses me off, especially in good looking games like MGSV and FFXV.

Haha.. yeah I don't get even caring that much about little graphical imperfections.

People really that bothered by that stuff?

I'm not sure I'd call them psychopaths, but I dig your energy here lol

I really dont like walking in empty spaces from point A to point B especially if im doing worthless, fetch side quests that plague most JRPGs, they are designed for padding, and waste the player time.
I also dont like mashing square 100 times quickly just so i can hold the door up in movie games.
I also dont like it when i have to grind materials to craft in games where crafting doesnt make any sense.

I hate crafting but for some reason I really enjoyed it in Fallout 4 Survival Mode. It some of the otherwise worthless junk throughout the world super valuable.

Days gone has a few walking sections where you do nothing but hold forward while characters have a conversation. I love that game but jfc those forced walking sections are infuriating.

- Stealth games with forced action sequences: When I'm playing a stealth game, I want to be a ghost, I don't want to Jack Bauer/Jason Bourne my way out of a mission.

- Tutorials: Let me figure shit out by myself.

- JRPGs with treasure chests that contain extremely power monsters far from a save point

Sometimes I hate special events that can't be triggered over and over again. When I encounter one of these events and die before SAVING or something else happens that causes me to need to read the file, I often can't trigger the same event again

I have another one. When games are so cheap with ammo on guns that make the game more fun. Forcing you to use some boring as garbage for majority of the game. Or letting you use the best weapon/power only for like the final minutes of the game.

Do 3 times of (X) thing to progress to the next objective/level. That always takes me out of the game. It constantly reminds me that a developer put that in the game to pad out the length.

Cutscenes. All of them, except for about 5% of Hideo Kojimas cutscenes.

"Press left on the thumbstick to look left. OK nice, now press right on..." I feel like John David Washington trying to bite that cyanide capsule in Tenet when those sections pop up.

Reminds me of the rocket launcher in Resi 4, literally makes boss encounters pointless but good on runs on harder difficulties I guess.

What I used to not care as much but do now: if a cutscene looks like gameplay .. let me frikkin play it.

And laong a similar vein: constant short "exposition" cutscenes that add nothing. Either do an actual cutscene or don't. Used to think Half Life 2 was not as good die to it not having cutscenes. But the way they do it is actually quite brillant

I have said this before in other threads, but man, being an introverted, singleplayer only focused kid sucked for a while, when many games had 'mandatory' co-op elements, and some even revolved around co-op as a whole.

Lots of games did this. Some of the latter Splinter Cells and Dead Space 3 (which admittedly already sucked) come to mind. I believe this was also the gimmick that Red Alert 3 had, though at least that had an AI when you played alone.

It felt like ass to reach a certain point in the game only to be locked out of certain paths and content with a big prompt that says CO-OP ONLY. (Sure, most of the time it was minor, and basically didn't even change the story, but still, it was irritating to me)
