Examples of 9/11 Effecting American Music

So I have a couple of examples of this, and I will not pretend that they are 100%. Justified. Just simple examples of bands either breaking up or changing their attitude after that date.

New York City Cops by The Strokes was removed from Is This It in America. I think it it still was included on the album elsewhere.

Rage Against the Machine never made an album after 9/11/2001. The most angry, let’s say anti US establishment band went silent.

Any other examples?

Well, it turned green day into COMPLETE shit instead of just 95% shit.

And hey op, rage just got back together!!! I look forward to see how they slice our super ripe society to the bone for how much anti human stupidity there is going on right now. We literally NEED a band like rage against the machine right now.
I hope...they dont suck lol.

So yeah, that is a 5 hour video on the 9/11 attacks.

It has nothing to do with this topic. And I skipped around on the video giving you the benefit the doubt.

This is not a conspiracy theory bull shit topic. I skipped around enough to see what that video was implying, and I hope the mods remove your post.

No intelligent or even fun discussion can be had with this sort of derailment. Whatever you are on about, create a new topic if you want to discuss conspiracy bullshit concerning that event.

Well now that the topic is significantly derailed, say whatever you have on your mind.
Hey in my defence someone else brought up flat earth in the other thread and I responded, I think that is fair enough to be honest.

this time fair enough. It’s a derail.

But 9/11 official story is BULLSHIT. People died and it’s bullshit why it happened.

But do you understand, the thread I created, was about how 9/11 effected modern music.

So unless you are going to make a connection between this conspiracy bull shit and the topic at hand, you are just shitting on something completely unrelated to....

Never mind. I always hope for a level of intelligent discourse. But this topic is not even that. It is meant to be an interesting and fun reflection on a very specific topic, the music industry, and a huge event. Drink some more vodka.

I get that. I’m sorry for derailing your thread. Really it is kinda douchy for me to have done that.

for me, the thread is about pop music , like pop music come on how boring is that. for me when I hear 9/11 it brings up all sorts of emotions on me and I want to talk about it.

sorry for derailing your thread.

No worries. At this point, discourse in this social media age is just entertainment.

Everyone is either so angry or so jaded that....

I cannot even describe where we are at.

The greatest song ever made (post 9/11....pre 9/11 it's Debbie Gibson's Only In My Dreams)

Also, I put in my will that this song be played on the bagpipes at my funeral.

Well I am sure someone from Neogaf will relay that to your next of kin.

I annoy people with my apparent retardation all the time especially when I’m drinking. I do mean what I say though.

since I’m pished...

Tesseract Tesseract I hope you know there are no hard feelings. I like to think that you know, if it came down to it, we’d be fighting back to back against the same foe. ❤️

I thought I made it clear that I do not give a shit!!!

That is a joke, I do give a shit. I want, even the people’s of Neogaf...

Just be good to people. It is not complicated.

Treat people who you encounter online in the same way you would interact with an actual person, physically. And

Pop music is a reflection of the culture of the time. Even if you don't like the music itself there's something interesting about how it reflects the mindsets of the people living in period it was produced.

Nickleback became popular in the early '00's right?

We seriously should have invaded Canada over that attack instead of Iraq.

I totally get that you are absolutely right.

I will say that for me perhaps the music itself influences the people rather than the other way round.

This... And it is more complicated then this. But this.

We should enjoy it all.

Because in certain points in our modern life, the music we listen to, the films, art in general...

I think it's a bit of both. Pieces of media are often successful because they communicate an idea people already may have but have struggled to put into words. That could be something political or something as simple as "I sure do love going out and having fun with my friends"

I’m a musician myself and in my view it’s incredibly easy to add “meaning” to music simply through language.

words carry so much power that they take the emotional punch of what music really is and adds specifics to it in ways that the music itself doesn’t communicate.

Without the lyrics or added imagery through album covers or fashions and politics of the day , in effect applying a superficial layer over the top of what is actually going on musically, to me music at its core is just raw emotions, and beyond that it’s anyone’s guess.

I don’t really have a point to summarise. I can play the accordion thats funny as fuck.

Where were you, when they built that ladder to heaven?
Did it make you feel like crying, or did you think it was kind of gay?
Well I for one, believe, in the ladder to heaven.
Yeah, yeah, yeah Nine eleven.
I said nine eleven, nine eleven, nine eleven.
nine...eleven.

Basically, they planted the seeds for PC culture to arise.

The infamous clear channel banned song list happened and it was the first example of PC guideline widely adopted 18 year old me at the time ever saw.

Not only they killed thousands of people, they also hit the west's freedom to think big time.

After that, "islamophobia" became a thing, Bin Laden became much more powerful and known than he already was and PC culture rose up. That was the real blow. Freedom to think and speak was gone, airports got a lot worse, culture in general got touchy and in the movie industry and game industry everything got dark and about war. Even Batman wasn't allowed to be campy fun anymore. It had to be dark and "serious".

American Idiot happened and musicians got all political as well.

People are always posting shitty conspiracies on 9/11 but they don't realize that the size of the blow was way bigger than they think. This event shaped our current culture and I know these guys knew exactly what they were doing.

don't force the comparison with goofy shit
I don’t understand what you mean.

I was drunk and I posted it. I know I shouldn’t have and I apologied.

Might wake some people up though.

People died and the government was involved and lied. Those people that died deserve the truth to be heard.

Or go back to sleep.

Probably the most notable example:

The cover that was to be used before 9-11:

The cover afterward:

I remember when this Coup album cover came up right after 9/11 and it was the first thought that jumped to mind when I saw this thread. I didn’t hear about it at all after that first news story and I thought maybe I dreamt it or something. Until today that is.

Rage Against the Machine never made an album after 9/11/2001.

Rage Against the Machine never made a studio album after December 5th, 2000, and it was a covers album. They were done.

9/11 put a cigarette out on American culture of the 90s, everything changed so fast. Most people's mindsets had changed and it showed up in our media.

Yes I said that, and you confirmed it.

Not sure how that works at the end of the day..

But after 9/11. Rage never made another album.

Why did this super, you could argue Socialist, you could argue Communist band!! ....

What happened with the Roacha? That is a kick, nobody calls him the Roacha.

Not American here but Do you mean most or all? Because not all bands since have been altered down which I think is what you are getting at, take Metal for Example, maybe a little bit at first.

Matt Left Iced Earth to become a Cop because of 9/11, Jason Everman ex Soundgarden Joined the Army because of it. Slayer I think delayed the album God Hates Us all due out on 9/11/01 (actually I looked it up on wiki apparently it came out that day, no delay so I was wrong hmm)

Also Dave Mustaine of Megadeth became Christian as did James Hetfield both post 9/11

Now though

Metal in America, some of it anyway is back to being brutal
Nsfw, cannibal corpse for example in 2009 still singing about Zombies and murderers etc just 8yrs later.

You just gotta know where to look (usually Death or Extreme Metal)

Well, Slayer's album God Hates Us All was released on 9/11/01 and it didn't go over very well for them, but I dunno if it changed anything.
