Got to play the alpha from a friend.

Funny how big the denial was when I compared it to cod. That blind rage is real.

It definitely feels like COD, but on crack. At the same time, I feel like this game is more forgiving. I don't ever find myself feeling like I got cheated. In COD (the way the maps are set up), you can get killed instantly from behind. Especially in Ghosts that has some issues with hit time, it's a game where you expect to die and respawn quickly (twitch fest). Titanfall is hectic and full of action, but I don't find myself dying and respawning over and over, or getting killed out of no where.

I also think the way you can traverse land has drastically changed the dynamic. It's more like Halo, where you can be rewarded for actually running. For getting shot, and taking off and escaping your enemy. COD doesn't really have that element IMO. Then there is the Titan's. I guess you could compare it to the over the top nature of killstreaks. But Titan's feel more like an epic thing then those (because of the struggle and battle with them).

This is the only time I've ever seen NeoGAF censor posts like this since joining the site and I have to say I'm a bit let down.

I can only hope/assume it was done due to a genuine potential legal issue - God knows running a board is hard enough, but censorship is bad and is a line that really shouldn't be crossed without a rock solid reason.
(edit: and from what I've seen of Bish, i am sure he has a rock solid reason)

Seeing as this is EA's/MS biggest game of 2014, I could see them doing everything to stifle out leaked footage of this game, at it's an Alpha Test. Alpha tests aren't that common in modern AAA releases, and so they probably don't want people assuming this is close to the final build (with regards to graphic quality, and performance).

I will say, the internet has a tendency to freak out, and things spread quickly like wildfire. Reputations and perceptions can be made quickly just based on photos, and video footage.

Why are mods editing the video out of posts? This isn't the first time people have posted NDA stuff.

Most probably because EA/Respawn/Microsoft contacted GAF to let them know what's up. It's interesting, because we've had countless Alpha's and BETA's in the past, where people have posted impressions, screens, videos and the like even if they may not have been strictly supposed to. EA/Microsoft(?) seems to be really intent on controlling the flow of TitanFall information and coverage with a vice like grip.

I think it's smart in this case with low-res textures in the alpha.

It's not like we haven't seen early alpha footage of a million other games though, many that had big graphical improvements when it actually released. I can see why they're doing it, but it is pretty damn protective I must say.

OT but I wonder if EA had any jurisdiction / legal basis to stop person A who hasn't signed an NDA from posting a link to Person B's NDA-breaching content. Then again people have been prosecuted for hosting links to illegal content they didn't create... At the end of the day Neogaf can't risk being caught in a legal battle, they're not a megacorp with lots of well paid lawyers.

So close to launch and with resolution-gate ongoing, I don't see it as over-protective at all.

I think this is still a scam and that's why it's all being edited out, for our safety. I'd need my own code to figure it out though.

Hmm... I think you're on to something.

Is this true because I've felt this since the reveal. I'm so not interested in this game. Going to be a great game for the Xbox One crowd. I've moved on tho sadly

I don't want to speculate, because we don't have the information to do so (and ultimately, it's a forum issue only staff have to deal with). But I would say, GAF is really good about not censoring, unless it jeopardizes the board (ie. stuff to do with legality). Point is, the perspective should not be that mods are unfairly censoring, but that they are just looking out for what is best for the board. What is best for all of us (since well, we want the board to continue to run without running into legal trouble since we all enjoy it so much).

It is what is. The reality is that this Alpha test required NDA's to be signed, and EA/Respawn was very adamant that participants don't share information of their time playing it (they even specifically ask that you don't write about it). So I think it goes without saying, to expect that certain things that fall under this sort of thing, might have issues attached to it (when it comes to sharing certain things).

Played the alpha for 3 hours straight and am very impressed. Last COD I played was MW2 and played a lot of Battlefield in the past few years. The game still has some hints of Call of Duty but it is different in so many ways that it feels completely fresh. I was skeptical when I heard 6 V 6 but that concern is completely gone, it legit does feel like the perfect amount. Im also really digging the ai controlled guys. Yes they are pretty much totally cannon fodder, however, it makes a match where you are playing bad not frustrating because you are still doing something and getting kills. The traversal and mechs are great to. Oh and the smart pistol, so aweosme. I like starting with the smart pistol then once I get a kill grabbing a assault rifle from a dead guy and having both. Smart pistol is amazing for when you land the sneak attack from behind, but the assault rifle is great for your classic gun fights. The game just has a great loop and the matches may be abit short but perfect for the, ok 1 more match before bed (more like 10) Overal super impressed and this Alpha for me has ran better then BF4 does in it;s current build lol. Maybe Ea can pull off a smooth online launch finally.

Thank you for this post it's made me realise I don't want this game. If your having a bad game you can pretend it's not that bad? Online games were made as competition. I don't get this fake kills thing. To make you feel better? Ultimately it's nothing tho.

Also it doesn't really matter as the damage has been done. The video was up for a couple of hours and people have copies. Doesn't really matter, in that it's not worth the legal headache, if there is a thread discussing it in length.

You are assuming the AI is going to be like that in the final build. Although I can understand why some would not like the AI/ this system. I will say, they separate the kills out in the scoreboard/leader boards. There is PILOT kills and GRUNT KILLS. Grunt kills only really serve to speed up your Titanfall (they give points). Whereas Pilot kills determine your rank at the end of the match.

So it's still competitive IMO. I think you have to view grunt kills more on a strategic level (like Creeps in a MOBA).

EDIT: Guess I'm wrong. See this below:

You get more points for pilot kills but you can offset that by having many more grunt kills than the other person. In the other thread, I wrote out all the scores from one match and one guy was ranked higher despite having less pilot kills.

Pilot kills don't necessarily determine your rank.

You sure? Because I could have sworn Pilot kills offered much more points than Grunt kills, and had a much heavier impact on what rank you got by the end of the game. Of course, you get points for doing many things (and that adds up). But I don't think you can be #1 rank for only having grunt kills. And based on my play time, grunts really only serve as you quickening your Titanfall. The big emphasis in playing is getting into your Titan and having massive showdowns with other Titans (and thus, that is where you get the big kills).

If you don't ever get in your Titan, and you only kill grunts on the ground, you basically aren't competing. That's how it's been for me.

I don't think he was trying to say that the grunt kills would make a bad game better in the sense of your end of round score. More that they are there so that you don't feel like you're having a bad game psychologically.

Is the video still live? If so, would someone be so kind as to PM me the link. Bought an xbone explicitly for this game, so I'm dying with anticipation.

An online only game should probably be enjoyable even for people that aren't that good at it.

Yeah I like the sound of this. Grunt kills remind me a bit of CS in Dota.

I would have been worried if they had classified grunt and pilot kills in the same category but this is re-assuring.

Interesting. Sorry I missed his point. I don't really know if I agree with this? Like I said, Grunt kills are a key factor in speeding up your Titanfall. I never felt that a bad game was alleviated, because I killed a lot of Grunts. I feel pretty frustrated when I don't get Pilot kills (especially when I get into a Titan, and lose out on fights and don't get pilot kills).

And I've never been ranked high when I got zero Pilot kills. (EDIT: I guess you can still be ranked #1 if you get a bunch of grunt kills and no pilot kills, according to Jarmel. So I stand corrected. It wasn't my experience, and I don't know why anyone would want to only kill grunts, as they offer no challenge. But I was wrong).

Well I guess I'll edit my post, and correct it. It hasn't been my experience, but facts are facts. I'm sorry for getting that wrong. Maybe they'll tweak it, so that Grunt kills don't yield as much (or that they don't impact your rank). Although people are saying the intention of Grunts is to make you feel like you had a great game, even if you did bad.

If that's really their intention (did they actually say that, or are we just speculating based on it as a game design?). *shrugs*

I knew it wasn't the only thing that effected rank, but I thought Pilot kills were weighed so heavily, that Grunt kills would be insignificant in most matches with regards to impacting rank (that in most matches, someone would not be ranked 1st through 3rd, by simply only killing grunts and having zero pilot kills).

In most cases I don't think it matters as the top scorers are probably killing hordes of grunts as well .

I cant wait to play this game but I have a terrible feeling it'll be just like my cod experience: terrible KD ratio as my terrible spatial awareness and reflexes get hammered by 14 year olds heh... Hopefully there's some kind of ranking so i end up with people as terrible as me...
