Fabricated Notch/Mojang party escort allegations; Twitter monsters spring into action

"Looking like hired girls" = "I hate other women who dress like that".
That's pretty much how I'm reading this situation right now. Until one of the accusers gets off their soapbox and explains the wrong that occurred I can't even think if another possibility. If they're complaining about the girls in the photos I understand even less, they're all dressed tastefully and don't come across as escorts to me.

So the people who said they had been told by girls at the party they were being paid to be there - completely made up? That just seems weird.
It was probably a game of telephone--not literally made up but the result of someone mishearing what someone else misinterpreted, etc.

People are holding Notch to fixing their own internal misunderstanding? Fuck the internet, nuke Twitter from space, close it all down. The fuckwits are running the ship.

Chicago-ish?
This is the problem with the internet. I would love to see this woman get in Notch's face with this horseshit in person. People would laugh at her, and she would be so goddamn embarrassed. Then she'd think twice before opening her trap.

I agree. Twitter is the scum of the earth, a platform to grandstand on for people who have no business grandstanding in the first place. And Arthur Gies is the King and ruler of this fucked up domain.

I like how brian ashcraft from kotako did some investigative journalism of same kind by posting question on tweeter, and how aegis tried to get into it... shitty journalists to the rescue!

So internet feminism has devolved into "anyone better looking/better dressed than me is obviously a whore forced into working by the male dominated video game world"?

Thankfully there are also people with brains who strive for equality who don't get wrapped up in this steaming pile of bullshit. It's embarrassing.

So someone saw "too many hot chicks" and naturally assumed they were paid to be there, "sex workers" as my main man Arthur Geezez would say?

Pretty easy to tell who the misogynists are.

Arthur Gies' commentary on this is so sad. I love how righteous he gets. People criticized @winnersusedrugs and he made appeals to humanity.. "this is a person behind this account!!" type stuff. Yet, if you reverse to July -> Nov of last year, during election season, he was an absolute dick to anybody who disagreed with his political opinions. Those people, apparently, weren't people.

Gies comes off as a white-knighting tool as well.
After that God of War Trophy business I'm getting quite tired of these "journalists" "white knighting" everything, they didnt really tell is how the trophy played out properly and missed out the context and facts of the situation to make their argument. I like Gies generally but recently he goes stamping around like everything he says is fact and ignores or belittles proof that he was wrong.

It's getting annoying that us men are continuing to tell women how they should feel about something as if they can't make up their own minds. I don't think either he nor sessler actually consulted a woman on it before making their noise about it, let alone that a woman came up with the name and that the women on here that i saw post weren't bothered by it at all.

... you know, written like that, it makes it seem like the second part of my nick actually means something. :D

In any case, and I guess I should have posted about it when this first came up (so I could get "I called it" points), I was extremely skeptical that someone like Notch would be behind something like this. It's like people don't give anyone the benefit of the doubt anymore. :(

Wow, people so obsessed with pushing their political agendas now that they are just making stories up?

What a sad world we've become.
Holy fuck. Haven't you been watching the news for about, oh, the last 10 to 20 years?

That is how it is done now.

Who is is guy anyway? I've been reading his name a lot recently but all I could figure out is he used to write for IGN and is now at Polygon or something. What did I miss?

20+ million copies of Minecraft sold, and we're supposed to assume none of those people are attractive? (or female?)

now that is reinforcing a stereotype

"Whether you feel you did or not" = I believe you are lying but do not have proof to back this up.

The passive aggressive is up to 11 on this entire thing.

He's just the reviews editor at Polygon, that'd be fine if he wasn't such an asshole to anyone who disagrees with him or calls him out on his shit. He talks authoritively about things he doesn't really understand then argues with anyone who questions him. I don't have time for his shit any more, he's single handedly put Polygon on my shitlist.

The guy is beyond scum.

He's proven to be one of the most worthless "journalist" out there and continues to humiliate himself on twitter on a daily basis. I don't think anyone takes him serious and if they do i feel bad for them as well.

I read the last pages, but is there a particular reason we are now calling it a lie? or just that it hasn't been confirmed by anyone... Is there proof it was all fabricated?

(Let me be clear so people don't think I try to keep this myth alive: I think the story is BS whether it happened or not)

Notch said neither him or the event organiser hired women for the event. Green wouldn't drop it there though, she kept insisting he somehow make up for a wrong he didn't have any part of. It's only logical to wonder if anything happened at all since no females were hired for the event.

Basically, all we've got is a bunch of devs playing Chinese whispers as far as "proof" that it happened.

I hold NeoGAF to a much higher standard than any of those. Which may or may not be wise. :D
Seriously now, this may be more telling as well:
Number of posts in Gaming: 995.
Number of posts in Offtopic / Community: 0 (at least, I think so).
And it's exactly for the same reasons, I seem to be the only person on Earth that thinks that laying out your private life for the entire Internet to see is conterproductive.

Also, this is freaking shameful:

Notice how she doesn't give a fuck whether or not she completely fucks over the reputations, family relationships, etc. of these girls. People like her do a lot of harm to the image of actual, serious, level-headed feminists. Unfortunately, people like her are the ones that are most visible as well. :(

And that is ridiculous. So not only did she form part of the "I am offended!" brigade, she also can't admit to making a mistake.

She should hang out with Adria Richards and Anita Sarkeesian.

I think this is a big problem.
This is now case two in two weeks time for very small stuff.
Choose your goddamn battles and choose the right one.

Because picking on this little things make them loose credibility on the bigger issues.
