Has a game journalist ever said 'I fucked up. I was wrong. I'm sorry.' ?
Yeah, but usually its a case where they misprint something, get corrected, and apologize for it. Once you've gone on the defense, its all over. No one apologizes after doubling down on the lie.

Has Arthur returned to GAF after the SimCity fiasco? He's been conspicuously absent lately.
Thank god.

Embarrassing all around. I guess you only get needlessly defended if you are a major corporation.

Recap: in the wake of the IGDA party dancer scandal, unsubstantiated Twitter rumors surface about women being paid to be in the VIP room of a Mojang party, apparently too attractive and numerous to possibly be there of their own volition (sexism much?). Mojang flatly deny claim and the source of the rumors is rooted out, essentially a game of Twitter Telephone, but a delusional feminist extremist crusader decrees that Notch is still at fault for people thinking that they were paid for even if they weren't, and that he should take some sort of action in reparation. Arthur Gies takes her side and promotes her on Twitter.

The OP is permed for going on a witch hunt (in conjunction with insane extremist posts afterwards) and refusing to update his thread after the attempt at scandal fell apart. Libelous, agenda-driven bullshit.

Arthur Gies is officially the most disreputable person in the enthusiast press.

Seeing other people say it just looks so right.

Reading the fallout of this story now, this is where my head started feeling like it was caving in. I mean, what? "They weren't paid, confirmed." "Well, you made me think I was right at one point in the past." What? At what point is saying "you know what, I was wrong, my bad" more difficult than dragging something like this out?

i think these posts go together quite well, heh

..not that i disagree with evil here; gies' twitter goalpost of "online content isnt yet offline, im still right" was a bold new level of sophistry for me, but the next time someone asks why gies/some of polygon stays in the insulated bubble of twitter, bear i mind they're gonna point to stuff like this and various strawmen as to why they don't bother leaving it. kinda saw McElroy do it (to a lesser degree) here years back.

relevant to the topic: OP, if it's any consolation, your words will forever remain in our hearts

I was going to suggest another title change incorporating this lovely gem, but perhaps it's not appropriate any more since they've been permanently banished from GAF.

How does it being "the norm" make it okay? Are you people not fucking human beings?
This had me in tears as soon as I read it, still manages to make me laugh uncontrollably.

I didn't know about Gies. Jesus, he just can't stop getting the dirt on himself.

I knew Notch wouldn't have done this kind of thing. It's actually very disrespectful that people actually thought that pretty women couldn't be there in the first place and talk like a freaking human being. But I guess that for them some things are just too good to be true.

This my favotite part of the story:

Such a double standard with this woman.

Can anyone explain to me who this Arthur Gies guy is?
A journalist who used to post here in GAF, first talking BS about the next Xbox (some of his rumors still not confirmed or even said elsewhere), then defending EA on the SimCity fiasco (without even playing the game apparently), and now helping an extreme feminist that seems to blame Notch for something he didn't even did (and also wants that Notch somehow do something for the stereotype that some people at the party might have had).

Just a writer guy nobody would care about, but he was on RebelFM (an ex 1up podcast) and posts on gaf frequently. While we're piling on the much deserved ridicule, he also posted about pirating a game on gaf I believe. I mean who's dumb enough to admit to piracy here? Arthur, apparently.

Wow, what is with the games press these days.

I don't even know what to say about all this. Gies won't be back anytime soon methinks.

Gies' constant irrelevant politicizing is an annoying quirk, but the real issue I've had with him is his relentless hostility to the audience he should see himself as serving--gamers, not game companies. He seems to internalize a lot of the hostility he inevitably gets from being in a semi-public spotlight and it transfers over to his opinions and analysis.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

djblackice informed me that he was never paid his $10 bet winnings via Paypal because Arthur is not only a shitty games journalist, but also a loathsome welsher. How low can one man go on the internet!

Glad to see I was right earlier in the thread about this being ridiculous witchhunt bullshit. The nose knows.

Thread title is deserved. Shit was getting out of hand.

Some people on GAF love witch hunts.
