I think i've seen enough here, am in tears.
Is this an example of someone's criticism/opinion not getting validated immediately and that person then making dumb mistakes in their self-inflicted fluster? How do you not realise what you're typing when you type it. I mean, the guy has defended the party he organised and denied the accusations. Is that not enough to accept until more information comes up? She says he's shitting on people's observations; surely it's equally shitty to press the issue on him after he's given his side of the story (assuming he's being honest)?
This is incredible. I love and hate social media. So much.It gets better

agreed. Christ, it's nice and all that people are now very interested in talking about a subject that has deep rooted concerns and all that, but it seems like now people are hyper-sensitive to the issue and are jumping at literally every possible sniff of evidence that tomfoolery might be taking place to put an exclamation point on their stance in the argument. Some people need to get out more!
And yes, there were models at these parties. Didn't go to the GDC one, but I went to their Pax PRIME one, and there were around 200 or so individuals in the VIP area with bracelets a different color, indicating they were from an agency (men and women). but it wasn't vulgar or anything, which is why I find this awkward. They were good looking, well dressed, nice people. It wasn't like people walking around in bikinis, it was nothing more than you'd normally see at a club. In fact, may bbe better, since most of the models where actually pretty friendly and down to earth.
edit:
this is also not news worthy, it's like people never go to events in any industry. A lot of times too, the models come from the venue itself... you throw a party, rent out a space, and the venue provides talent. It's no different in other industries. I suppose you can opt out of that, but it's fairly standard.
I guess my problem with this is how Minecraft only gets barebone updates every couple of months - if we're lucky, and yet they're paying strippers 300/hr. to pretend to be interested in their conversations?
What about all the things that the devs have promised would be integrated into MC that've been pushed back and pushed back and put on indefinite hold?
And then Notch moves onto Scrolls and his Space Sim Programming game 0x000 or something like that?
I'm starting to get the feeling that Notch got really lucky and became a millionaire on just the Alpha version of Minecraft, so now he's going to just keep starting projects, gathering money for them, and then "moving on" and dumping a B or C team in as soon as they hit a bare minimum of playability.

p.s. Diplo was spinning? I hope notch got some chicks to twerk while all the haters are home bitching
If this story is true, they were making MAD BUCK from it. Do you think they gave a shit they were being "objectified"? It's a job
in gamer party, they are not being objectified, they are being glorified.
maybe that was the problem?
This isn't remotely true. The people that believe things like this need to stop treating the actions of individuals like they're supposed to represent an entire group of people. Its completely idiotic. This particular incident aside, the general practice of hiring attractive women to stand around so that men can gaup at them might reinforce the idea that women's only use in society is to look attractive for men. So even if the women being hired are happy with the situation, it can potentially be damaging to the perception of women in society more generally.

People are pretty uptight.Dancers.. at a party..
Sounds about right? I'm really not understanding why this is an issue. Not willing to get banned over some nonsense in this thread so I'll abstain from further participating, but since when did hiring dancers for a party become taboo?
I was at the notch party last night. The party was originally secret but then leaked to promoters weeks ahead of time. I would say 50% of the people there were industry while the other half were typical rave/club types.
I was the 20th or so on line so when I got in there weren't a lot of people there. However several dozen girls( wearing sexy clothing) had come in through the VIP entrance and were getting a pep talk from one of the event people as if they worked there.
Events like these are sexually driven affairs. The problem is that these are also quasi game industry events and clubs/raves contribute to the objectification of women.
That was the complaint a lot of attendees had about the MineCon party. It was filled with random Vegas clubbers while some of the paid attendees couldn't get in.

I don't really see what outrage is happening that others are so...outraged about. As far as I can tell, the only person who seems to be making a thing about it is that woman on twitter who made the initial allegation, and she's clearly not making a strong case.
The most I see in this thread are some going "Uh, that's kind of weird, and it's not the most progressive thing to do, but whatevs."
So uh, why the outrage over the outrage?

Oh man, I have the feeling that dancing to dubsteb always looks a little stupid.Meanwhile in Females VIP Room
If notch was gay and paid guys to dance around, would anybody care except some homophobic persons?
BTW, Notch dances are pretty progressive.

I just find it hilarious that a person with a twitter handle called "winners use drugs" is complaining about professionalism. I see that it's supposedly used facetiously, but I still find it hilarious.

There is some evidence to say that Mojang weren't involved in what happened. To that end, I apologize for spreading misinformation. But I still find people's reaction to this weird.
Sounds like you've never been to an industry party.

Holy shit how is this 14 pages. It's a private party, they can do what they want.
