Fabricated Notch/Mojang party escort allegations; Twitter monsters spring into action

At least she reached out to him and had a face to face lunch. Props to him for doing that as well. But yes, she did change her tone pretty sharpish.

Yeah, props to the pair for meeting up. I still reserve the right to mock Holly over the stuff she posted on Twitter on this subject, much like I reserve the right to mock people who post something stupid or wrong (although, to be clear, I do not condone the rape threats and usual shit that happens when accusations of sexism occurs in a tech industry. That's about as helpful as putting out a fire using a bucket of petrol).

How the fuck is this news?! This fucking industry is insane.

This week, a girl took a picture of a guy who told a dick joke to a another guy. The joke was not addressed to her and she overheard it. She took a picture, tweeted it, and got the guy fired. She also got fired for not following the chain of command. The guy got fired for a dick joke.

Welcome to twitter. Where a puppy can get life in prison if enough people are offended by it.

I wonder where this will go:

Sounds like they're on the same page now.

It's sad that both sides of the argument have rabid trolls. Stop embarrassing the rest of us gamers, ugh.

My favorite part of this mess was when she said it wasn't a rumor because she heard it firsthand from someone who said they heard it from one of the girls there.

This is a disingenuous summary that doesn't bother to account for the context in which those jokes were being made. But why bother trying to fully understand the issue, right?

I got "paid" to attend the party as well.

It's a industry shindig, people say shit like that all the time.

If anything I think it's pretty symptomatic of the basement dwelling crowd to make assumptions about people, especially women in the game industry, just because they are dressed or act a certain way.

Typical Arthur, white knighting while totally ignoring the facts. What an asshole. Holly is a troll and he's giving her a platform to troll on. Congrats. It's a disgrace the OP and title of this thread hasn't been changed yet, so quick to pile on indiscretions in the industry but fuck admitting when you're wrong right? Way to breed apathy by crying wolf and never backing down.

I don't expect such to be an organized, company-sponsored event. Now, if some of the fellas want to have their own thing in their hotel suite...

So my opinion is a function of whether it was company-organized or just private shit. If it's the later, I agree with you. If the former...nope.

a) It appears it was entirely paid for by Notch. b) Except for the women the controversy hangs on. He didn't pay for that, the promoter didn't pay for that, the DJs probably didn't pay for that.

My money is on it being Phil Fish trying to sabotage Notch.

What are the chances this is all misplaced blame due to some attendees independently hiring escorts to bring to the party? Some then question the "suspicious" women and, assuming the worse after the whole IGDA fiasco, pin it all on the hosts(Notch).

Just spit-balling here...

Could be, but nobody bothered asking the girl/s who paid them so no investigative journalism was done, just a bunch of assuming and soapboxing.

Many of you guys need more important things in your lives to worry about. Buying so deeply into these non-issues is embarrassing. One day I'll wake up and someone will probably be posting how the sky being blue is so chauvinistic because why isn't it pink too? And I probably wouldn't even be surprised, as stupid arguments are becoming common place in regards to this feministic bullshit.

Are there issues in the industry with female equality? Sure. But now that we're starting to give some honest attention to it, the crazies are coming out of the woodwork.

this is like... wtf.

in any case, this argument is pretty silly imho... There is nothing wrong in being hostess and plenty of girls do that while finishing their degrees, doesnt mean they are hookers. They are pretty capable of deciding what they want to be doing with their life, and people questioning that are the ones in wrong.

Holly seems to want attention, i wonder if there was any actual "issue" here or is it all just about getting same attention. And if she actually has issues with hostess and models, is she trying to suggest that they are hookers or something? Seems so by suggesting that "they are being paid for companionship" which is really ugly play of words and actually demeaning.

i fully expect here now to follow up and start campaign for covering up models, and closing down hooters.

I think a lot of people seem to not understand how hard it is to be attractive. If you can make a living out of it I say more power to you.

I think some of the confusion is coming from the fact nobody has recognized/publicized there were a lot of people there from outside the industry.

While I was there I talked to people who were in venture capital, web advertising/development, merchandising, event management/promotion etc.

Jumping to conclusions about why there were a lot of females at a "games industry" event is easy to do if you don't take that into account.

So how come the OP and thread title hasn't been changed yet? Unfair character assassination if you ask me. From what I can gather what is being purported never happened, but was just some people who heard it from other people therefore it must be true?

OP should be disgusted with themselves for not updating, such poor form. Can't admit you're wrong, might get in the way of your argument. They should realise crying wolf leads to apathy and it's not doing their cause any good at all.

Come on guys, if Mojang could hire a bunch of hot girls to hang around and pay them $300 an hour, they'd each already have hot socialite girlfriends and it wouldn't cost them anything.

So wait, it was all a lie?
Yep, OP doesn't care though he/she was posting long after it was revealed and didn't bother updating the OP or contact mods about a thread title change. Fuck the facts when you've got an agenda to push. Such childish behaviour.

So now this is something about what some anonymous people supposedly feel somebody did other than what they actually did.

Really?

Put up or shut up. You don't get to fucking accuse somebody of something if you can't back it up.

Christ.

She should ask that women if she work for money.

Hint: Asking something like this in club to someone who don't know anything about it = slap in face. Saw it million times.

Welp, here goes:

This way of making money is not intellectually stimulating for a person. These women could be getting a degree/making a real career out of their lives; instead they have given in to society's vision of them in order to pay the bills. It makes that person come off as slutty and stupid, and that something as artificial as money can pay for her attention. It perpetuates stereotypes about an entire gender of people that have historically been mistreated by men. It makes women who aren't there to make money feel uncomfortable, and creates a hostile environment towards women in the games/tech industry. I'm against the notion of people being paid for their sexual attractiveness, yes.

This "degrading work" pays enough money to fund one's degree. Many people in the high class escort business are also in college, since the escort work doesn't take much of their time as working on McDonald's would and pays several fold more.

It's not like the girls who do it for a living hate it either. I have a friend that used to be a pro and she loved her job. Not just the money but the people too (particularly her regulars). I have to admit I was jealous when I found out how much money she was bringing home. More power to her I say, if I was in her position I would've done the same thing.

Yeah, many people actually get a high out of having their good looks acknowledged to that point.

Seriously, this. Incredible stuff. More than a few people involved in this nonsense, and a few posters in this thread should be embarrassed.
