Fabricated Notch/Mojang party escort allegations; Twitter monsters spring into action

So, to be clear, people are upset because certain people came to this party dressed a certain way, and feel Mojang should be held responsible for that?

One of the most depressing threads I've ever read, tied with fake Shenmue 3.

Wait, why is Shenmue 3 fake???

Also, this is freaking shameful:

Notice how she doesn't give a fuck whether or not she completely fucks over the reputations, family relationships, etc. of these girls. People like her do a lot of harm to the image of actual, serious, level-headed feminists. Unfortunately, people like her are the ones that are most visible as well. :(
I love how she misuses the word companionship pretending it's not a loaded term that implies sex. What a disgusting mole of a human being she is.

Oh come on, how is what that guy is saying anything but an attempt at stirring shit up?

And this is what I don't understand - where did this come from? There is just no way all of those people independently decided to make this up.
There were attractive women in the VIP area. That's literally all that happened. Everything else was assumed. And wrongly assumed at that since nobody was paid to be there.

Let's not forget the people who fabricated the rumor.

btw. Alex May later clarified that he wasn't actually there, just tweeted something he heard about.

Wouldn't be surprised when all of this started with some rumor and people couldn't help themselves to blurt it out on twitter where it suddenly became a fact.

Alex already said he is was not in the party. I can see other dumb people jump in the rumor to get atention. The Minecraft success create a lot of envy.

Wandering backstage into a room full of women apparently paid to be there? That sounds a bit different.

I hold NeoGAF to a much higher standard than any of those. Which may or may not be wise. :D
Seriously now, this may be more telling as well:
Number of posts in Gaming: 995.
Number of posts in Offtopic / Community: 0 (at least, I think so).
And it's exactly for the same reasons, I seem to be the only person on Earth that thinks that laying out your private life for the entire Internet to see is conterproductive.
You sure seem to love laying out your life right now. I know a lot more about you from this post than you know about me from mine.

It's like the industry (and fans) learnt the word misogyny in the last month.

That Holly Green girl is pathetic. Her tagname is quite sad as well.

Read Holly's twitter (should be linked a few posts up). She says there were an inordinate amount of females in the VIP. That's the backstage room full of women people assumed wrongly were paid to be there.

Terry :(

Actually he's definitely not some random dude and has posted before in the Super Hexagon thread(s), would be very curious to hear what he personally observed/heard.

I get a bit upset at things like this where a party makes accusations outright instead of asking questions. There wasn't even a need to try to inject outrage or gender politics (at a fucking private party, nonetheless!). It's like this Holly person saw the outrage over the conference deal and decided she wanted her 15 minutes of fame, damn the facts and damn the consequences.

@notch - Hey, there are rumors of you guys hiring people to be at the party? True?
@winnersusedrugs - No

FIN

EDIT: Why was there a question mark at the end of a statement? I dunno?

VIP areas at parties are full of hot girls, who would have thought?! I could go down to the shittiest club near me and the VIP area would have the hottest girls in the place there. It is what it is.

I'm really having a hard time imaging this scene. So some guy stumbles into some room where all these women are gathered (dressing room?) And instead of leaving he asks them about their professions?

That's exactly what she wanted, and got. Unfortunately. How embarrassing.

"Hey, sorry for busting in, but real quick - are you guys whores?"

They do this because there are no consequences. Even if you're proved to be horribly wrong, you just Retweet the replies you've received from crazy people, and suddenly you've switched the situation around to where you become a victim.

Or you just do an Arthur Gies and ban anyone who disagrees with you from your twitter. Such a professional that guy is.

If there is no picture and witnesses giving different versions of the story, I don't know what all this discussion is finally about.

So she was actually a groupie? Which means she was with the band and had absolutely nothing to do with Notch and co. Nick Robinson is just as bad as Holly Green in this story.

EDIT: Now I'm confused. Seems like she's not a groupie but won't confirm or deny Nick's story. She might be a dentist I have NFI.

And it seems that no matter how wrong you are proven to be, there will always be a hoard of people saying things like "I'm glad you spoke up!" "Thanks for speaking your mind!" "Fuck the haters stay strong!"

I don't understand Twitter whatsoever.

What's your problem with "winnersusedrugs" being her twitter name? Don't you recognize the reference? It's pretty cool actually.

No, if it's a reference then it's fine. If she legitimately meant it there would be my issue with it.

Twitter is a case study in confirmation bias. Just cherry pick the replies that make you look right and bingo, you're right.

This is why Twitter is such a terrible place for discourse.

It's impossible to make a fleshed out accusation in 140 characters, so people are revving up their outrage over half-truths and incomplete information.

I want to know what Ben Foddy and Terry Cavanaugh's experience actually was, because the single tweets they wrote tell me shit-all.

Ok, so apparently did he not even talk to them. Just assumed stuff. My guess is that he just saw a bunch of waitress/bartenders etc. calling someone to pick them up

this is just stupid.
legitimate people going through all this bullshit cause of bad assumptions.

Wow.. just... jackassery and assumptions all over. Entire situation conjured up from the imagination of some guy with no actual information, and filtered through a magnifying glass by some gal who refuses, even now, to admit she was wrong.

Just folks trying to ride the 'scandal' bandwagon. SMH.
