Fallout New Vegas |OT| Obsidian does what Bethesdon't

Should I exchange the PS3 version for the 360 version or is the DLC not a big deal? I don't usually like exhanging gifts though as it feels dickish and I dont mind playing the ps3 version otherwise. Bah this exclusive DLC sucks.

Obsidian needs to patch companions and give them common sense. When I tell Veronica to keep her distance and use a plasma rifle, why does she run into a cazador nest with Pushy? Pushy isn't gonna save you from cazadores. And then there's that unfortunate incident where she pissed off a half dozen blind deathclaws. This game is troll-worthy after level 18.

Slow thread today, but I have some questions about which faction I want to support.

I've finished the Yes Man's Side Bets quest and now I have two quests warning me that I could become enemies with both the NCR and Caesar's Legion. Currently they're both neutral. Regarding Mr. House, I'm doing part three of The House Always Wins. Which side is now the most convenient to support? How many are possible to support by loading older saves?

You're getting the warning about becoming enemies with NCR/Legion because they know you're working repeatedly for Mr. House. At this point it would probably be most convenient to either continue working for him or to pursue interrupting Mr. House via Yes Man's suggestions.

I think the quests you mention are the indication that tells you if you've been locked out or not, when they "fail" you will not be able to work with any of them again. If you want to go Yes Man you have to deal with House, and after that his route is out of the question. Where you're at now you'll suddenly be outlawed by NCR/Legion just by talking with House or Yes man. Keep a few saves.

You won't actually become enemies with those factions it just means that
you can't help them take over the strip after a certain point. I did the House Always wins and the NCR idolized me all the way through to the end. Mr. House even specifically pointed out that a certain mission would be easier because the NCR adored me.

I'd say the AI is better than you give it credit for. Veronica is just doing as her character would. He's not a robot to obey your commands at will, or use weapons she has no real ability with. If you want someone to stay back, pick up Boone or Cassy.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or I just missed something obvious:

I've been doing missions in The Strip for awhile and my two companions (Boone and Rex) weren't allowed to join me inside the casinos. But I have no idea how to get them back now that I'm in the wastleland again. Are they waiting for me some place or did they just ditch me?

The first time you go into the Lucky 38, your companions automatically have to wait near the door, so I would guess thats where they would be

Eh, I don't think suicidal behaviour is indicative of good AI, unless the character is supposed to have a death wish.

Nah, it's not suicide. She's just naive and likes to punch things.

You've obviously never played a Bethesda or Obsidian game before if you really think this was their thinking.

Just like how Boone the sniper loves to rush in with a machete.
I traveled with Boone for a while and never had this happen. Wasn't it caused by the patch which they later fixed?

You also can't compare it to previous games since they didn't really have companions, or it wasn't nearly as developed as it is in NV.

Mr. New Vegas keeps talking about an aircraft circling over the strip. Is this some kind of new quest? If yes, how do I access it. I've been in and around the strip day and night but couldn't find anything.

It might have something to do with the
boomers
. Have you completed the
Volare
quest?

Not sure if I ever used him since the patch actually, but when I used him he had a hard time keeping his distance.

Every Fallout has companions, they are pretty much the same in Fallout 3 except for the wheel. Also, they are stupid in every game, just like the AI in general.

It would have been nice if the
boomers could actually fly over the fort and bomb them all after the Volare quest

Edit: Can someone post a link to the mod that lets you have more companions travel with you.

More companions? With Veronica and Rex, they already kill almost everything on their own without my help:lol I think the only thing they have trouble with are deathclaws.

What do you mean? what happens?

Came back to this game after putting it down for a month to wait for the patch. Still buggy... hard froze while fighting one of those giant bees in the desert. Only lost 20 minutes of playtime though!

It's a problem that a few people seem to be having according to the official New Vegas forums.

On Dead Money, after I recruit the three and return to the villa fountain, nothing happens. I talk to the old guy and he responds as if I still have to recruit people. I'm stuck. It seems like the problem is with Dog/God. When I talk to him, I don't enter his dialog tree, he just shouts "Dog is hungry!" The others respond just fine. Someone on the official forums said to reinstall and start over. That recruiting the people in the wrong order fucks the game. Seriously, what the fuck is this mess?

How the fuck do I kill
Legion Lanius?
I can't use speech and I don't have any armor piercing rounds for my anti material rifle. Is there a spot I can shoot him that he can't get up?

Do you have any type of mines (besides Pulse obviously) that you can preemptively lay in his path? If so try it, if you can cripple his legs near the outset like that you'll have a much easier time with that fight.

I just spammed Stimpaks during that fight. After he went down there were still like a billion of his reinforcements to deal with and that was a bitch because they all had sub machine guns. I killed as many as I could, but they seemingly kept respawning. Then, fortunately, somehow a cut scene triggered even though I had six or seven of them still shooting me at the time.

i just started the fight with a sneak attack critical from the same rifle

got him down to so little health it was trivial after that

I foolishly tried to talk him away. It always worked through the rest of the game and I thought I was on easy street with my 95 speech. Turns out you need 100 to convince him. Usually when that happened during the main game I'd just back out of the conversation, use a magazine and then reengage, but that wasn't an option. ;(

:lol I used 80 rounds of the riot shotgun to kill him. Jesus Christ, Obsidian went overboard with the fighting at the end.
Only Speech, Barter, and Science at 100 are needed to finish peacefully? I only maxed out Guns and Repair. Motherfucker.
And the game crashed during the final cutscene. Bravo, Obsidian.

PC version here, I've now unlocked the infamous kill the guy for his hat quest. Is it safe now to do the quest, or should I just hold off?

Also fucking Deathclaws in the Quarry, I can annihilate everything with my Energy guns, but all they need is two swipes or sometimes one and I'm down. And a full VATS unloading with my tri-laser still leaves them with 1/5 of health even as lvl 25.

Pretty sure that one was fixed in the last patch (1.02).

Just finished this. Didn't like the final mission. Add another item to the huge "things that FO3 did better".

End game was super disappointing, and kept crashing on me over and over.

On top of that, it's just a small skirmish on a small enemy camp (I went independent, and fought Lanius. Dunno if it's different if you support the other factions). Raiding Project Purity with Liberty Prime on your back was so much more exciting. You never get the sense of scale that the hoover dam battle should have been, that the game taunts you all the time. FO3 was a battle between the little remnants of two armies, and felt so much bigger.

So I finished Dead Money. Great scenario, really great payoff, just one complaint.... Too much experience points. Went in as a 27 and left as a 31.... I think next time I'll wait until I hit the level cap before embarking on it. It feels like way too much to be gained. I mean, 50 XP per Ghost Person? And something like 1000+ per "find the teammate" quest?

Just a bit much.

I just think it would be interesting to waltz into caesar's camp with every companion at once.

Didn't think i'd ever see a complaint about something like this....

I wrote earlier that I'd like a perk/trait that gave you less experience. Some people like to do most of the quests and explore the world, it would be nice to have the option without being insanely overpowered for 70% of it.

I just had to ask since the wikia makes no mention of it being fixed. Thanks even though I'm still scared to do it. :lol

Is this the quest you get from the atomic wrangler? if so I can confirm that it's fixed, I just played through it and experienced no problems.

A link to the official New Vegas boards. This fountain glitch bug is pure fucking bullshit. Meanwhile, no fucking word from Obsidian. Fuck this shit and fuck Obsidian. I fucking KNEW not to risk buying DLC after all the glitches throughout New Vegas, but noooooo I trusted this shitty dev to actually deliver something as wild as a "working fucking game".

Fire your coding monkey or hire people who know how to fucking code, you sloppy fucks.

I've been playing with him recently and he rushes all the time. He'll hang back if it's a wide open area, but it seems like even at mid range he'll run at people. He's got a variety of weapons on him too. He's winning though so I can't complain much...other then shooting him in the back occasionally.
