who ever told to discontinue the Switch for a powerful Home Console ? Nintendo could have both a powerful Home Console together with a Switch or portable hardware. N64 and GameCube lack of 3rd party support was due mainly to non standard format like cartridge and midi dvd. Things could be much better if Nintendo were more open minded, leaving at home their obsession of being unique and original at any cost on the hardware side. Nintendo are some of the greatest developers on this planet, and their originality would be always present in the software, in the games, regardless of the format they use, hybrid consoles, Home consoles, or Gimmik like Nintendo Wii, etc. Profits is the only thing Nintendo do care about ? Good, go and fooking play your Wii, WiiU and Switch, I will never buy another Nintendo console in my life, and like I, many other won't. Nintendo do not give a crap about, they do have their profits with outdated tech and graphics, and they feel confident 'cause millions of people will be always happy to play Mario, Mario Kart, Pokemon dusted off and recycled billions of time. Nintendo fanboys can Laugh how much they want, but they know Nintendo can do much more than this. I played Zelda, great game even though it could be billions of times better on a PS5 like hardware, same for Super mario Odyssey, Splatoon...actually the only one games I enjoyed on Switch.

You are happy with "PS3" like graphics and gameplay mechanics in 2021 ? Good for you, but do not act like you are always right, your opinions are always right, and who the hell give a fuck if other gamers are not happy with Nintendo. Some people just keep showing how much ignorant and immature they are.

yeah yeah yeah but Nintendo do have dah profits...they do have dah profits and the selling records. Play with the fooking selling records, be happy.
It would be nice but I think games are now too big and take too long to develop for one company to support two platforms with separate games. That's why Sony and Nintendo are only focusing on one software ecosystem from now on.

Now a more powerful Switch that plays games at higher resolutions/frame rates? That would be possible and it looks like something along those lines is on the way next year.

Konami is going to overtake SQE soon lol.

Capcom will take the 1st place and SQE will be the biggest loser with 0 announcement of exclusive Dragon quest game or Final fantasy game on Nintendo Switch.

SQE was performing spectacularly during 3DS era with DQM terry wonderland - 921K, DQMJ3 - 811K, DQM2 = 752K, DQ7R = 1.2M , DQ8P = 865K, DQXI(Could've been more if released earlier) = 1.77M.

But now Microsoft and Konami are going to end up as a better publishers on Nintendo Switch.

No, they are supply constrained. They sold out all available units they had, like in the rest of the world.

PS5 just had the biggest console launch worldwide sales ever seen in gaming history, but since Japan is now a smaller market for consoles they shipped less units there compared to other countries.

Sony bows too much to that western cock.

Miss when they were Japanese in the PS1 era.

On one hand you have a market consisting of 126M people (if everybody was a gamer). On the other hand, you have the US and European markets, which compass almost 1 Billion.

Them focusing on the two biggest markets is called business.

Yes. There is no other console with higher worldwide sales for the first weekend or two weeks, which is the period announced by Sony. And it's pretty likely than in two weeks it even outsold the first month Switch sales too, which means its fist two weeks too.

Most consoles released their numbers for first weekend, two weeks or first month when they did a great number, or specified that it was their best launch and we had the numbers of previous ones. We have also have their numbers for the quarters plus sales so even if for these consoles we don't have the launch weekend/first two weeks/fist month we know what they did for first quarter and it's less than the top sellers did.

There are some other consoles where we don't have their quarter sales numbers but we know they didn't sell more LTD than the best selling ones so it's fair to assume they did sell less than the top selling ones.

Until now we had the number of PS4 selling 2.1M+ in 2 weeks, and we know that the initial PS5 lauch shipment sold out in minutes with preorders (plus some units sold in launch day due to cancelled preorders, people who didn't go to get their console etc) outsold that, and at least in Europe some retailers sold more units on launch day that will be delivered on December. So we don't know exactly the PS5 numbers but it's the highest number we have for launch day/first 2 weeks.

And even it's very likely that in these 2 first weeks they even outsold the first month sales of Switch (2.7M) because we know that combining the country specific PS5 sales we have (today they published the UK ones) from USA, Japan and biggest EU countries, or that we know were higher than the PS4 launch ones, they already outsell the 1st month Switch sales in these countries. We have to see Germany, France and Italy PS5 sales/available supply for launch but these are also traditional key markets for Sony, so it's pretty likely Sony shipped there more units than they ever did with their previous consoles as Sony did for other key markets for them like USA, UK or Spain. And we know PS5 is sold out in these countries too.

Germany, UK, France, Spain and Italy are a huge % of Sony sales for Europe/EMEA for Sony (comparing country specific sales vs their financial info where they specify sales per world region, and this is the biggest one for them) and USA/NA their second region. These two markets are the huge majority of their worldwide sales so they are a great indicator of their worldwide sales. And these countries are the big majority of the sales for these world regions.

I believe you, but let's hope that the stock be replenished regularly instead of frontloaded in the first month or so.
Another note is that PS5 software physical sales had been a bit disappointing compared to the console itself.

Supply constrained or not the PS5 won't set the world on fire in Japan. Its new, so it sells for a bit now. But it will be just there. Even the games, I think you can count the number of million sellers on PS4 on one hand, and they sold much worse than they used to. Japan moved away from consoles after the PS2 and it never rebounded. It only got worse.

Sony bows too much to that western cock.

Yes and no. It means we would have to wait a long ass time for the console to be released. And a lot of games either wouldn't make it over, or would also come much later.

Yep. Regarding next PS5 shipment/supply batch, we know for launch Sony had worldwide more PS5 units than they had for PS4. And we know they expect to sell (so to ship) more units as of the end of March 2021 than they had in the same period for PS4 (7M).

So it's fair to assume that at the end of December 2020 they will also have shipped/sold more units than they had for that period with PS4 (4.2M). Which means that the shipment both Sony and several retailers announced (even some retailers already opened preorders and sold out in minutes) for mid December will be pretty big.

Both Sony and MS also expect to be supply constrained until Spring or so, which means it's very likely that these mid December units will be sold out in minutes as they sold out their previous ones. So it's fair to assume PS5 first month sales will be over 4.2M (vs the Switch ones that were 2.7M).

From my understanding Momotaro is a game primarily played with families on the same TV, so further evidence that Japan is not completely done with console experiences.

Maybe he meant all the talk about censoring games and things like that?

The stupid LPGT-thing when people cried when Days gone had a man kissing a woman? (instead of gay/trans stuff, like having normal straight pair would be wrong)

Idiots whom get offended by tits, shooting non-white people* or characters that have artistic freedom** are tiny minority and most are probably from USA. (this snow flake culture originates from there I believe, and is sadly gaining some foothold on EU too)

So Sony could do their Japanese stuff*** and be successful, Instead of caring this tiny but loud western minority, like many movie companies do too.

I strongly disagree with that, games+movies are form of art and if someone makes "insert babies into blender simulator", people that get offended are the ones that are wrong. Because it is just a game, while it would be sick, it is not real life.

But too many loud morons would scream about it like it would do harm to someone. Because they could be the sick ones, as they dont understand difference between reality and fiction, so they imagine that everyone are the same and go nuts.

* when it is ok to have white enemies to be massacred on thousands of games, but not blacks etc = it is form of racism. Like people whom cried about RE5, because of them we probably dont see exotic locations anymore.

** Like upcoming little devils. twitter warriors whom have zero education or history knowledge and then they cry how having dreadlocks on character oppresses Africans, while in reality dreadlocks arent even from Africa originally.Worst morons even raged how those characters smoke joints, must be mocking blacks! and those were indeed a blow dart guns, like any sane person would see them as.

*** The way how sane and normal people should act: anything can be joked about, nothing is holy, people whom get offended by tiny stuff are laughed at instead of giving them safe spaces

And in the end these people whom are "professional butt hurt by thing x and y" would not ever even buy those items anyway, they just like the attention and ruining things for others.

So no wonder if Japanese start to dislike their own companies if they dont feel like their culture and history is respected, just to let some fragile snow flakes to force companies at their will. USA vs EU vs Japan cultures have big caps between them, so it is what it is.

I get not focusing on Japan but Nintendo is outselling Sony in the US and Europe too... I really don't know why Sony's sales have just collapsed in Japan (PS4 sold one third of PS2, and 2M less than PS3), but it's still good money on the table.

It's primarily because of the weakness of third parties on the system. In the West things like FIFA, COD and other sports games are massive and help the system reach wider audiences. In Japan almost all the mega hits are now from Nintendo (and obviously their games are not on PlayStation).

Both Sony and third party tried their best during the PlayStation 4's first few years, there is barely any franchises that didn't end up on the PlayStation 4 at some point, hell even Level-5 at one point tried to support them. The issue is that as soon as Switch became a success in Japan, the audience third parties were aiming for started to transition. PS4 achieved it's best result in 2018 thanks to MHW, but it was obvious that would be the last year that we would see growth on the system. Also at that time PlayStation ecosystem was already in decline despite MHW launch because in 2017 as the Switch launched PSV audience started to migrate rapidly to the new system.

Overall the bigger issue for 3rd Parties is that PSV audience basically transitioned to Switch, which is evident by the results of Sony since PS4's launch. The system continued to receive support and contribute to Sony's decent results overall even though it was never the top performing platform for them. But the vast majority of games sold on the Vita were 3rd Party titles. Once audience identified Switch as Vita's replacement we can see that Software Sales sharply dropped by close to 2 million from 2016 to 2017 on the Vita, which up until that point had very stable sales of 3.5 million per year.

PSV/3DS games don't have huge budgets, so they were fueling decent profits for third parties like Level-5, Capcom, Bandai, Falcom, Marvelous, Spike Chunsoft, Atlus, Square, Sega and Koei. But this audience basically migrated to the Switch and third parties were very slow to react. Making a big game for the PlayStation 4 always ensures a risk from a financial standpoint, we've seen it this year with Marvel's Avengers as you need to invest twice to three times the development budget into marketing a game in order to ensure it's a financial success - something Japanese Publishers even as big as Square Enix cannot do, to the level of Take-Two, Ubisoft, Activision etc.

2020 result of the PS4/PS5 will be below 5 million physical software sold, and that's despite Final Fantasy VII Remake doing twice the amount of the best selling PS3/PS4/PSV game in 2015 - Minecraft. In 2015 the PS Ecosystem achieved over 10 million physical sales. Right now digital sales in Japan are still low compared to Western market with 10-30% depending on title - with Monster Hunter World Iceborne being the one outlier due to it's nature. So even if we've seen gains from a digital perspective in he last 5 years, it's not enough to make up the difference between higher budgets for development and marketing, coupled with longer dev cycles and smaller audience overall.

Next year will be even worse as I doubt PS5's lifetime sales will be above 1.5 million by the end of 2021 and there is not much chance that even with Final Fantasy XVI we don't see further decline. This will be also felt due to the PS4 dropping like a rock compared to the PS3 which managed 3 million software sales in 2015. Compounded with Switch actually receiving 3rd Party support and one of the biggest 3rd Party franchises arriving on the system with Monster Hunter Rise(I don't count a late port of a 3DS game as MH's arrival).

hiska graph for physical sales in Japan:

Overall most third parties have seen sharp drops in their sales due to the fact they weren't able to transition from the PS Ecosystem into a multiplat strategy. One very easy example is the lack of high profile holiday games by third parties on the Switch up until this year, holidays is where 50% of software and hardware sales are achieved and the lack of third party sales ensured Nintendo and Pokemon Company were basically the only two relevant companies during the holiday period.

This holiday we can see actual third parties find success, Sakuna from Marvelous was an unexpected hit and already achieved extremely strong digital sales due to lack of physical copies on the Switch, Momotaro is already the best selling game by Konami in Japan in the last decade, Koei Tecmo basically shipped as many copies of Age of Calamity as their best selling games ever for it's launch, GameAddict's DerbyStallion is the next game that will surprise a lot of people with it's performance; Atelier 2 is set to have the strongest launch of the franchise ever due to being a multiplat; Fitness Boxing 2 will build upon the debut's success for Imagineer - still this year we would see further decline for Square, Capcom and Bandai because these three giants really failed to launch anything substantial on the Switch. Bandai is still doing alright because it does launch a lot of games and some of them end up on the Switch, the 3DS Taiko port they are launching will definitely be profitable but this holiday has been a huge missed opportunity for all three. Bravely Default 2 being pushed back, Capcom likely pushing back MHR due to COVID and Bandai being Bandai

Next year things will change dramatically from a third party perspective. In terms of software sales most 3rd Parties will start to see huge growth YoY - Capcom and Square especially, while others who are already finding success like Konami, Koei, Imagineer, Marvelous will achieve record sales.
