Looks like japanese gamers do not care a lot about powerful Home Console gaming. It's all about Nintendo and portable...
I miss the time of N64 and GameCube, I hate Nintendo.

But think about it. If all they care is Nintendo and portable, a modern day equivalent of N64 and GameCube wouldn't be as successful as Switch is.

7.6M PS4s say otherwise. Nintendo Switch is not its competitor, Xbox is.
NSW is definitely a competitor to PS5, the market share for Playstation console is shrinking in Japan, Nintendo Switch is getting a lot of titles from Japanese 3rd party games.

Monster Hunter game is the biggest seller for Playstation 4 in Japan and next year a new exclusive Monster Hunter game will be released on Nintendo Switch.

What if Nintendo release a powerful Home console with very good 3rd party support together with a Switch2 ? Sure it's more costy in the beginning, but they could be still successfull in the long run if they play well their cards. They might think about some kind of special connettivity and features between the two. It is really impossible for Nintendo to try this ?

They could but it's probably not profitable like Nintendo Switch as Sony and Microsoft are eating loss for every PS5 and XSX sold to customer.

Switch alone already made 10 billion USD profits in just 3.5 years on the market while PS4 needed more than 7 years to be in that position.

That's true. Hardware market share isn't the only thing Nintendo is currently dominating.

Japan is probably the hardest market for Sony right now, at least in the west 3rd party publishers are still very competitive when it comes to software sales but in Japan only a few titles from 3rd party games could barely compete against insane Nintendo 1st party software sales.

Let's take a look at the current state of best selling title in Japan in current gen.

1. Animal Crossing NH - 6M
2. Smash Ultimate - 3.8M
3. Pokemon SwSh - 3.7M
4. Splatoon 2 - 3.6M
5. MK8D - 3.2M
6. SMO - 2.1M
7. MHW PS4 - 2M
8. RingFit Adventure - 1.8M
9. Pokemon Let's Go - 1.7M
10. BOTW Switch - 1.7M
11. SMP - 1.6M
12. Minecraft Switch - 1.5M
13. DQ12 PS4 - 1.3M
14. FF XV - 1M
15. Mario Maker 2 - 1M

11 Nintendo titles = 30.2 million physical copies sold
2 SQE titles = 2.3 million physical copies sold
1 Microsoft = 1.5 million physical copies sold
1 Capcom = 2 million physical copies sold

Ok, the best way to keep profits so high for Nintendo is to keep going with Switch and similar hardware philosophy for ever, but what about hardcore gamers who would like to play the best Nintendo franchise with next gen graphics ? Shall we continue to play very outdated graphics for the entire life now ? That's not fair. Sure Companies only care about profits, but if you ask me, this is not the Nintendo I like. This is not the gaming experience for me, and many others. I would buy on Day One a new Next Gen Nintendo Home Console, too bad I can only dream about it.

As someone who lives here and is trying to find a PS5 I can say for sure this isn’t fully true at all. Everytime the system goes on sale for preorder at the couple of stores doing them, they are sold out immediatly, with one exception which I’ll get to in a moment. Everywhere else is doing lotteries and the amount of entries vs systems available usually come out at 100 times more than supply. People are frustrated they can’t get it here and want it just like those in the west.

And to give a good example of this, last week Amazon Japan open pre-orders again for the next shipment. I was able to actually get an order in and I was so happy. Turns out though a lot of other people did too, more than Amazon expected. Now most the people who ordered from that pre-order are being told their system won’t ship until next year. Which is frustrated a lot of people who thought they were getting their system in a few weeks. However it’s good they didn’t decide to cancel the orders. Because right now trying to win the lotteries is almost impossible.

It’s not competitor in a sense that they’re not competing for the same audience/market. Yes, they’re both consoles but aimed at totally different people.

Sony Japan types should be concerned with the Switch performing so we'll technically. Hyrule Warriors looks amazing, better than anything 'NextGen', The Outer Worlds just got a performance upgrade on the Switch as well.

To be fair even the Switch stock is bit lower than expected for this week.
Yes, I guess I shouldn’t have limited my statement to ps5. The series X and switch are probably affected by stock shortages as well. So we don’t have any idea what the thirst is for the hardware in Japan. (Or anywhere, really).

They tried this before. It was called the WiiU, and the third party support quickly dwindled when they realized that no one wanted to buy Nintendo's PS3 four years into its console generation. The Switch is such a success because its Nintendo's own thing. That, and Nintendo's been releasing goats on a yearly basis.

Even going before this, each successive generation after the nes sold less than the previous, even though the N64 and Gamecube were more powerful consoles than the competition. Some of this had to do with how much of a douche Yamauchi and company were in those days, but more of it had to do with Sony snapping up huge chunks of third party, which Nintendo only just began to catch up on with the DS/3DS, and now with the Switch. Nintendo going back to that old rat race would see nothing but disaster for the company. Hell, Microsoft can barely hold their own in any respect but their gamepass at the moment and they have better relations with any non-Japanese third party than Nintendo.

Graphics are seriously at a point now where they are good enough no matter what you play on.

Switch games look great. PS4 games look great.
SX and PS5 are even better but people really should be happy with the level of graphics we are getting now, and things are only getting better.

Nintendo with PS4 level tech will be a sight to see, judging by the stuff they pull off with Switch tech. Hell Nintendo was making gorgeous stuff last gen as well.

The market share for a Nintendo console dried up too, that's why Wii U did so poorly in Japan and why they abandoned consoles for handhelds.

Unfortunatelly, Japan is really not that important of a market for Playstation.

PlayStation 5 is not just the biggest console launch in PlayStation history – but also the entire industry. And yet the tiny island is just a fraction of those sales.

Xbox could have sold at least double of its LTD in Japan by now if MS havent gone for the marketing BS of having contrained supply to call it "sold out in Japan" crap.

Japan don't want the PS5. Don't want games that PlayStation be offering these days too. It's not just about portability.

People who thought the PS5 would make a dent at Nintendo's complete domination of Japan were kidding themselves. Sony is a japanese company in name only, they have punted that market for like 10 years now.

Aside from some odd bump here or there due to a big launch, don't expect to see the PS5 ever outselling the Switch in the weekly charts.
