Curious question about tms, do idol games sell highly besides idolmasters? I assume hardcore gamers (like the ones who picked the high ranking games on famitsu's list from 2017) aren't fond of j-idols at all. It just seems like that to me.

I'm curious to how y7 is gonna do for the further weeks, Amazon . Jp reviews had mixed feeling on the previous game. I'm curious if the series is just fatigued or did something to set Japanese gamers off.

PS4 has no appeal left in Japan, even Yakuza can't save it anymore.

Also Tokyo Mirage Sessions not going well in its re-release.

Idk to me that is one of the most glaring examples of how Atlus long announcement-release timeframe and weird messaging affected sales.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions is a good game, but it's the game nobody asked for: originally marketed for Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei fans, the game has completely different vibes from those, it does something i don't think both FE and SMT fans want, even though it's still a polished RPG and has gameplay mechanics taken from both series.

I could be wrong but if this was announced as a new IP removing even those little connections with FE and SMT, the game would have had more chances to succeed as a separate entity.

Personally i'd have rather preferred anything else from Atlus, on Switch: Trauma Center HD port, Etrian Odyssey, old SMT games or other SMT spin-offs,...

According to commentators on that Gematsu article, Yakuza 7 sold 50k less than Yakuza 6, but 7k more than Judgment. I wonder if it's part of a general decline in PS4 sales in Japan, or just part of the general decline of Yakuza sales in Japan? It would be interesting to see how a Switch version of Yakuza 0 would do. Hopefully non-Japan sales will continue to increase enough to make up for the decline.

Going by numbers quickly grabbed off the web, except for Ryuu ga Gotoku 6 which broke 200k on its first week in Japan, sales of RgG7 are inline with the rest of its PS4 compatriots, including Judgment and the Hokuto no Ken game. Considering it's a late-gen title, with a new main character & story, different combat mechanics, and graphics that aren't appreciably better than other related-series titles, 150k in initial Japanese sales is probably respectable, all dependent on SEGA's internal expectations.

Strange to see PS4 games topping the charts in Japan. Lately, anything that isn't portable has been struggling there.

From what I've read, Encore sold about 5000 copies lesser than the Wii U original...and this is on an install base of around 3.3 million vs Switch's 10.6 million.

And you know what? Serves them right. Whoever thought Japan would welcome the Westwashed version now has the numbers needed to wake up.

That said, I enjoyed the abridged Wii U version though I too felt that it didn't have enough of either SMT or FE in it.

As for the other Atlus games? Persona is Atlus's Resident Evil; they'll keep milking that cow and ignore the rest of their franchises along the way.

They were wrong in they way they announced it but in my opinion it was a wise choice making its own game instead of going straight up crossover. SMT absolutely needs it "M" rating for its story and demons, if FE was going to be involved there is now way it could have kept its "M" rating and what we would have left with half-ass SMT, TMS its own game and it better for it but the way they first teased it insured that most wouldn't even give this game a chance.
