there’s an error in the op. The series s has sold 6188 systems, not 61888 systems according to famitsu’s webpage. So in actuality the Xbox series s and x together have sold only just under 30,000 total.

Still very good compared to previous gen. MS may or may not deliver with XSX/S in hardware performance but will definitely is improving sales regardless everywhere, probable XGP is being a good selling point (tho I don't know if it's for japan)

gamepass is here in Japan and is a selling point for Xbox fans for sure. No doubt the numbers are much better than I think most people would expect, including myself, especially with no hype and practically and word of interest here. Not to mention the bad reputation Xbox has here due to how they have treated the Japanese market. Plus the second that Sony is able to shift more ps5 systems here the Xbox numbers will drindle even more.

Sony abandoned Japan? Allocation numbers are so low for launch and also holiday.

I feel like Sony is probably shifting more units to the west for holiday shopping and all. Which has made a mess of things in Japan considering that the only realistic way of getting one is to be extremely lucky to win a lottery to buy one. Even the regular sales like at amazon have been probmatic with them overselling the system a few weeks back meaning people like myself are still waiting for our consoles. And we are told most likely it won’t arrive till next year.

Obviously Sony has been falling for years in Japan in comparison to the ps1 and ps2 days. Many reasons why too. But even with that there is still a considerable PlayStation fan base here who is excited for the ps5 and so frustrated that they can’t even come close to buying one anytime soon. The supply is just far far far too small for the demand right now.

I'm still wondering why people are buying the PS5 at launch in the first place.
I guess everyone just really loves beta testing hardware while not having games worth the asking price.

while not having games worth the asking price.
For me that was Demon’s Souls and I would say it’s perfect as a launch game because it’s a type of game that I’m are willing to play multiple times.

Seriously! I played this game 5 times back to back.

PS3 Launch vs PS5 Launch

Hardware Sales 2006: 466.716
Software Sales 2006: 397.930

Week 45: 88.443 / 118.085
Week 46: 43.378 / 42.891
Week 47: 37.261 / 40.459
Week 49: 50.171 / 11.893
Week 50: 70.942
Week 51: 76.882
Week 52: 71.727

Top 10
  1. PS3 Ridge Racer 7 - 98.616
  2. PS3 Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire - 96.714
  3. PS3 Resistance: Fall of Man - 72.694
  4. PS3 Armored Core 4 - 48.521
  5. PS3 Genji: Days of the Blade - 36.534
  6. PS3 MotorStorm - 25.857
  7. PS5 Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales - 24.805
  8. PS5 Demon's Souls - 21.489
  9. PS3 Need for Speed: Carbon - 18.994
  10. PS5 Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War - 6.045
There is basically no game that would come even close to Ridge Racer 7 on the PS5 this year;
Software might not even pass 125K; Hardware its difficult to say but I'm expecting something like 350K as a best case scenario
Worst of all in the past legacy consoles would continue to do decent software and hardware numbers, something I don't believe would happen with the PS4 at its current price;

As much as I lean more to playing games from Nintendo, I do not like monopolies.

This is bad imo. They can’t even do ps3 numbers to ship? They aren’t making ps2/psp/ps3 just ps5s and can’t supply product? Something isn’t right.

Pretty sure thats because of limited PS5 consoles. Supply issues etc.
Would sell more if the consoles were actually there to buy?

absolutely this is the reason. Even the smallest ps5 store lottery has gotten insane numbers of applicants here. One store did a lottery just for their mobile club members and got 120,000 applicants for very few systems. Far far more than they were expecting. Bigger stores have gotten a lot more than that in terms or applications too. If they had the stock they could’ve sold a heck of a lot more. I think people need to remember while the switch has dominated things for a while now here in Japan, Playstation is still an important brand and it’s in high demand here too.

I will start to believe in this huge untapped demand for the PS5 in Japan, when we have three consecutive weeks of >100K sales.

Konami is about to become the 2nd best selling publisher of 2020, Momotaro already shipped over 1 million, with the three biggest weeks of the year still to come they will surpass 900K physical sales in 2020.
There will also be a huge update for games that are outside of the Top 30 when the Famitsu Top 100 for 2020 releases, game numbers that haven't been updated in months like Mario & Sonic, Taiko, Luigi's Mansion 3, Paper Mario, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, One Piece, DQXIS, Fitness Boxing etc will get a considerable boost since they've been selling steadily outside of the Top 30 and in the holiday should get a boost adding in some cases 30-50K units to their final totals. I don't remember when exactly Famitsu releases their Top 100 but we will see something around 20% growth in Market Share for the Switch YoY, as a lot of the smaller caliber games continue to sell on the system well after their launch.

Overall no game in the Top 50 will be below 110K sales, the #50 in 2019 sold 81K which will probably be the floor by Week 51.
I think the overall sales for this year will be over 23 million. A huge spike compared to the 17.5 million last year and great momentum heading into 2021, which will be the peak year for Software for the Switch.

This is bad imo. They can’t even do ps3 numbers to ship? They aren’t making ps2/psp/ps3 just ps5s and can’t supply product? Something isn’t right.
