UK PS5 shipments in the launch week must be around 300K which is a big middle finger to Japanese playstation fans.
Changing the "X" button in japan was the first warning shot that sony is focusing on other markets. I don't blame them either, Nintendo has an 89% market share in Japan. Hearts and Minds.

COD and AC topping the Japanese charts?

So they have just as bad taste in gaming as the West then.

With all the big promotion it drives me nuts that SONY pulls away from making so little PS5 shipments it’s nuts
Well according to reports they're manufacturing anything from 11m - 15m by March 21. It's just that the demand is huge in every territory. In the UK alone they could sell 1m in the first week if the supply was there, that's a lot more than PS4.

Didn't realise PS4 Pro uptake was that low in Japan. I expected the lifetime figure to be higher. 1.5m isn't a lot.

PS5 Digital Edition number is kind of shocking.
It is? Japan is still not big on Digital only and the rest of the world aren't either be at least for a time for these new consoles.

But i expect Microsoft to change that

So only around 2k offset and Switch / PS5 sales would already matched even on PS5 launch week. It's gonna be worse when the supply would be heavily constrained at least until next year.

Also people had said that PS4 will easily pass 10 million in Japan when it still averaging around 1-3k weekly now (6-12k monthly), they need around 750k more and that means only in 4-5 years that PS4 can only reach past 10 millions, provided that it can actually sell that amount consistently. It might not even reach that 10 mil numbers in lifetime lol.

It will once they actually lower the price of the PS4. A PS4 is still 30,000+ yen on Amazon right now. A PS5 digital is 39,980 yen lol.

Hmm hopefully. Then again Switch could also be cut in price too maybe as soon as next year.
PS5 Digital is a myth now with how low its stock are even worldwide, that price option might not even exists for most. I believe Sony only releases the system for marketing, for that $400 price tag.

It will be interesting to see the numbers of the PS5, will it be similar numbers to the PS4 (close to 10M) or worse? I guess it will depend on the next Nintendo console as well.

For reference, the Switch sold 320k units with some notable supply shortage although probably not as extreme. Underwhelming software sales for Sony as well. Let's be honest here, Japan is NINTENDOMINATION land and that will not change at all.

I've always felt that Playstation's historically low attach rates for games is a extremely positive sign of console and ecosystem health, not the other way around.
It's more towards negative sign since most of those consoles were sold to scalpers or resellers.

Oh, I guess in this specific case yes because most of the systems are probably in the process of being shipped for a second time, so no games are being bought or played on them yet.

I was more referring to Playstation game sales in general.
