[Weekly Software & Hardware Sales] "Mario Kart World" tops the charts for the 15th time! Switch 2 titles like "Kirby Air Rider" fill the top 10 [11/24-11/30]

Famitsu's sales rankings. This time, we bring you a summary of estimated weekly sales figures for game software and hardware from November 24th to November 30th, 2025 in Japan.

Mario Kart World is doing well, taking the top spot for the 15th time and the first time in seven weeks. The game released a free update version 1.4.0 on December 3, 2025. A wide range of adjustments have been made including the implementation of an "item switch" function that allows you to set the items that appear, changes to some course layouts and changes to the online battle specifications allowing players to enjoy gameplay with greater freedom than ever before.

Coming in second place is Kirby Air Riders, which was ranked first last week. This title has also been well-received as it holds in-game events where participants are given rewards. These types of initiatives are generating buzz and it seems likely that sales will continue to grow in the future.

Also this week, the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch versions of Pokemon Legends ZA and Momotaro Dentetsu 2 both ranked high and are showing steady sales.

If the original Xbox and first model PS3 taught us anything it's that one of the keys to success in Japan is the size of a console. Its current slim form just won't do even with price cuts. I'm not saying it's a failure, but it's not doing enough to stop the current Pac-Man chart going on.

Not without exclusives that really appeal to the market in a way similar to Nintendo's. Even then, it's not like PS5 hardware & software sales would start matching Nintendo's; they would be doing a lot better more consistently however.

And while it is true PS5's sales this week match last week's more or less, last week was like 2-3 tracking days IIRC, whereas this one is a full week. It might be fair to say, if last week was a whole week, that number would've been double, so with that in mind this week's number roughly matches the drop we've seen for other PS models following new revision launches in Japan.

Maybe SIE get lucky and next week hits between 20K - 22K, as that'd probably give a new baseline between 15K - 20K for the weeks afterwards; a notable improvement. But a lot of that is also going to depend on what surprises (if any) Nintendo pull with Switch 2 during that period. The system's doing super well in Japan in spite of not having new releases in most of their big franchises aside Mario Kart and Pokemon (the latter being a cross-gen title). When they start dropping the megatons, that could definitely impact PS5 sales averages.

To PlayStation's benefit though, the current issues with RAM and NAND shortages is going to screw up affordability for custom builts and even pre-built PCs globally, that includes Japan. So they could see less erosion into PS5 sales from that sector as a result, and could counteract some of the otherwise erosion of sales they'd lose to Nintendo when the big gun software releases start hitting that system.

Lets be realistic, Ps5 will never ever beat Nintendo switch 2 in Japan. Even Sony management knows that but they want at least ps5 numbers to improve. Its still a good improvement especially ps5 pro. But Sony Ps5 really needs good Japan centric exclusives and a pspnextgen asap in Japan.

handheld, look at how well PSP did in Japan.

But I thought somebody on here and a retarded YouTuber said nobody wanted Mario Kart World lol..

Why the Switch bump, seems considerable enough to note, brought it on par with PS5 sales again (margin of error difference really).

We'll see, two days don't give an objective idea of the impact on PS5 sales in this market.
We'll have to wait a full week and see how it goes over time.
Well, the sales were down for PS5 DE despite having a full week.

It's really over for PS5 at this point in Japan.

"over"...it's still a console that has sold over 7.2M consoles in Japan and when all is said and done won't be that far from PS4 and PS3.
It's still PS5's 2nd or 3rd biggest country in terms of consoles sold.

It's not Nintendo numbers but if this is over, then all PS consoles since the PSP flopped in Japan.

PS - It is ironic that if sony had kept PS5 competitive in Japan it would probably be enough to offset the gap between PS4 and PS5 in sales launch aligned lol.

Sony announces a new cheaper model for PS digital...and the damn Pro starts selling as much as that said model with a promo...? What am i missing? lol
Black friday. Pro did well. A similar number of existing customers wanted to upgrade as new customers wanting a regular PS5.

I was mostly joking but the PS5 really does need a new design as in something that looks nothing like the models that have been released so far.

I'm just happy there's more people in Japan getting PS5 Pros!
Shocking that those who bought ps5 in Japan now prefers ps5 pro. Now Sony has to reward and show a good will to Ps5 owners in Japan by giving more Japan centric exclusives especially rpg, party type games and quirky games. Revive OG Japan IP like alundra, wild arms, legend of legaia, dark cloud, parappa the rapper, and ape escape.

The real questions here are what about the "people waiting for discount" crowd? Wheres ghost? And why this is not Spain?

Hopefully that PS CEO works waaay harder this time to bring back PS to Japan. At least he acknowledged the problem, thats one step.

The reality is those PS5 Pro are probably in China right now.
