Farewell 360 :(

Could've been anything, including just a (disc) printing error since it played all your other games.

I've had games on other consoles that'd be perfect if you looked at them, but wouldn't run. Hell, my first copy of Halo refused to load Silent Cartographer on my Xbox, but would work fine on a friend's. Exchanged it for another copy and all was well.

Still, better safe than sorry I guess...

I'm still thinking it was the console since the disc played flawlessly on two different consoles. Not to mention that other people have had the same problem with many other games. But you're right, better safe than sorry. :)

Lower software sales + short, pick up and play games = Less drive overuse.

Combine that with a system that's such a well engineered little machine to begin with, and you have something that's gonna last.

I don't think it has anything to do with short, pick up and play games. Pick up and play are more Nintendo's forte on the DS. There aren't really anymore on the Cube than the other systems. DMC and Onimusha are "pick up and play" compared to SMS or Zelda. The only worthwhile (IMO) RPG on Xbox KOTOR1 clocks in at about 30 hours with about zero replay value. Halo 1 and 2 see lots of time. But so does SSB:M. Lots of time for SSB:M. AC gets lots of time. Nintendo makes reliable stuff. Generally short on tech, but long on reliablity.

I had a bum Xbox that I had a warranty on and it was replaced without question (DDEs and Thompson drive). Otherwise, the only thing that has broken down for me is a DualShock 2 and a PS2 that was acting up, but not consistently acting up. I traded that in for a new PS2.

The 360 just seems plagued with problems. Even if the probs are in line with industry norms, the perception in the public is that the 360 is a unreliable system. I'm leery of picking one up, even when I have the cash and there are units available.
