Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

I actually never got the chance to play any Fatal Frame games and I heard 2nd game is the best one, I'm very excited to give this series a try.

Why didn't you get 4 and 5 HD when they dropped? Thought you were a Japanese games guy. 🤔🤔

I already pre ordered. RE9 then this two weeks later is too good.

I LOVE Japanese games but that doesn't mean I can play EVERY Japanese games that comes out, too many games and not enough time.

Also dont like jumping straight 4th and 5th game before playing the pervious games and I heard 2nd game is the best in the series so I think this is good jump in point.

To be fair you'd have a hard time getting them for a good reduced price, I don't think they drop them below 35% off.

They're all standalones. Fatal Frame 4 was my favorite. 2 definitely one of the top ones though

ehh not really standalone, they often have returning characters, and while each one of those instances does give some lip service to those characters, it doesn't compare to having played their previous games.

I guess 4 is the only real standalone one cause it was meant to be a clean break for the franchise on Wii. Even the next WiiU one brings back original characters.

Hopefully it does well enough for them to remake the first game. I wouldn't call them "scary", but if that's something you get from them, then the first game will fuck you up a bit.

I still can't decide which of them I like best. Both are great. Except the shitty Wii version with the new camera perspective which took away from the experience rather than add anything.

I'd still highly recommend playing the originals on PS2. The recent Undub and uncensoring patches are awesome. They released on Xbox too, but outside of a few extras that didn't really add anything meaningful, they are graphically identical, with no extra polish. The undubs for the Xbox versions are also very old and unfinished.

PCSX2 is your friend.

And even more raw footage, this time in 4K.

Honestly, it looks kinda rough from a visual standpoint. And I definitely saw some slight lightning/collision gliches.

On the other hand, given how poorly the series has sold, it's a miracle they even greenlit this.

Stealth mechanics?!

Also, Miyako looks kinda silly. Not liking her new look.

To be honest this looks pretty bad. I'm still interested, but this isn't a great shoiwng. The original had a far scarier atmosphere, and the combat was more tense.

And... the ghost hand mechanic is back. Absolutely hated it in FF4 and MoBW. At least the animation is much quicker here.

The PC specs are also up. Quite modest.

Given Team Ninja's history of extremely bloated PC releases (85 GB for NGII Black, 70-ish for the first Nioh, whopping 150GB for Rise of the Ronin), I expected double or triple the size. Now, hopefully the optimization is fine. Their Katana Engine has been pretty bad in that regard as well.

After roughly four hours with the first four chapters on PC, Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake already has its hooks in me — not only is it a faithful yet modernized take on what many consider the scariest game ever, its added visual fidelity makes the core mechanic of looking directly at what's trying to kill you that much harder to endure. I wonder if they'll do I and III? If so, why not start with I?

Same reason MGS started with Delta or SH started with 2.

Remake the popular entry in the franchise. FF2 is by far and wide considered the best game of the franchise in the general fandom.

Fatal Frame II Remake has a single display mode on all platforms.
All platforms have a target frame rate of 30fps. In all cases, we find unstable frame rates.
Xbox Series S and Switch 2 show predictable visual cutbacks, but this time the Switch 2 version falls a little further behind the rest, especially in terms of vegetation and shadows.
Fatal Frame II Remake has a remarkable visual finish, but performance currently has room for improvement on all platforms.

In the beginning of the demo the (real-time?) cutscene is super detailed with very sharp assets without any trace of cinematic filters of any kind. I thought, wow, the visuals are great!

Then when you start controling the character the developers give you the heaviest amount of grain filter I have ever witnessed in a videogame. On PC I assume reviewers can remove that shit but on console you can't and it's unplayable for me. Add that the 30fps cap and it's a big nope for me.
