Police: Father Threw Infant In Frustration



KENNER, La. -- A 3-month-old boy will likely have permanent neurological defects after Kenner police said the father threw the infant in a fit of frustration.

Kenner police arrested Tyler Jonathan Eastgate, 22, after doctors at Ochsner Kenner notified police of possible child abuse.

According to police, Eastgate was home babysitting his son on Monday and grew upset when the infant wouldn't stop crying.

Eastgate told police and hospital staff that he found his son in his room having trouble breathing, seizing and losing consciousness.

Doctors at Ochsner found that the baby had suffered bleeding on the brain, brusies to his cheek, chin and chest, police said. The victim also had several scratches and bruises to his neck in a hand pattern, according to police.

Doctors told police that the injuries were a result of blunt force trauma, as in being violently thrown down.

After interrogating Eastgate, Kenner police said the father admitted that out of frustration from his infant son's constant crying, he threw the baby against the wall, causing him to strike his head. When the baby didn’t stop crying, police said, Eastgate struck his son in the face and threw him into his crib, causing him to hit his head a second time. Eastgate also told police that on a separate occasion he accidentally dropped the baby causing him to hit his head on the floor.

Investigators said that due to the injuries, the boy will likely have permanent neurological defects from the trauma.

Police arrested Eastgate on charges of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. Eastgate remains in custody and no bond has been set.

I would almost prefer death if that were me. Something tells me the remainder of that kids life isnt going to get much better

Actually, I do not know what would have been better for this poor soul. If he has to grow up as a crippled man thanks to his dad... damn. Damn this situation. Damn us for allowing manchildren to have kids.

Personally I'd have used a less descriptive title like "Father responsible for infant son's brain damage"

But that's just me. Anyway, I think this is further proof that something NEEDS to be done to ensure that people like him don't have children.

What's sad in all this is the baby more than likely suffering from long-term brain damage, which the baby did not deserve in any way.

This father deserves to go to jail or even better rot in it for effectively disabling an infant just because he couldn't handle the responsibility of being a father.

As a father to an 8 month old boy it is sickening to hear about this happening. When it comes to babies you really need to have a hell of a lot of patience though and it helps to have both parents there to hand off and temper the situation when the child is going ballistic.

At 3 months old all my son cared about was formula, sleeping, running a comfortable temperature, and being held. They have little concept of much else to be upset about.

As a new dad to a wonderful almost 4 month baby girl (watching her as she sleeps on the monitor now), fuck this guy. Give him the maximum and even more. It pisses me off how there are terrible people like this who can have and abuse children and lack the responsibility to control having kids for the sake of sex when they clearly don't want nor are prepared to handle a kid.

Personally I'd prefer the death penalty/torture, but I don't trust the justice system enough for that.

The merciful Lord spared the baby from eternal hellfire. After all, the baby hadn't yet accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Hopefully the Lord didn't allow the brain damage to get to the point where the child won't be able to understand the Lord's sacrifice. He gave this baby a chance! HALLELUJAH!

Seems a bit excessive to the alternative of, oh, I don't know, calming your fucking baby down?

God damn, what the hell is wrong with the world? You know what's the primary problem? He's twenty fucking two. He's still a kid for fucks sake and it should be relevent then that he wouldn't have the patience or the capacity to care for a child alone.

Where was the mother!? God damn, I said god damn!

I think a big problem is that biologically people are still wired to have kids at a young age, but culturally we are entering adulthood later and later. So the result is young people having kids but being unable to handle the responsibilities of the real world on top of raising a child.

Holy Fuck at the article. I've been frustrated at my son's crying fits (colic is not fun at 2am) but I would never hurt him; he's a baby.
