FBI investigators in New York raided the office of Michael Cohen, President Trump's longtime personal lawyer on Monday, in a significant step following the amount and range of work he has handled for Trump.

The New York Times first reported that federal prosecutors issued the search warrant after a referral from Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and any potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

It does not appear as though the Cohen search was directly linked to the Russian investigation, the Times reported. There was no immediate information from the FBI or the Justice Department.

‘Bad boys what you gonna do when they come for you”

Edit: Fun fact the NY state attorney that signed off on this was recently appointed by Trump

I'm just gonna throw this out there. For all those who think they finally got Trump, this is more likely related to campaign contributions for the $130k, or using the wires with fraudulent intent IMO to procure a settlement agreement when his "client" was not party to the agreement he represented he was.

Nothing to see here. All presidents have their personal lawyers office raided.

Well there’s plenty to see and there will be articles to no end. Just not necessarily anything that implicates Trump beyond his lawyer thinking he banged a porn star ten or twelve years ago and apparently settled a case without his client’s consent if I understand the facts correctly.

Haha. Yes. I’m sure his lawyer took out a home equity loan to pay off a porn star with no expectation of getting paid back by Donald Trump.

I am sure lawyers do this all the time without telling their client lol

Not just a criminal lawyer, but a criminal lawyer. Much like just about everyone else in this administration.

I find it sad that he cheated on his wife. I don't have very much respect for people who cheat on their spouse or significant other. Then again, I don't really like Trump to begin with.

This could be the thing that ends Trump for good. How much dirt does that lawer have on him?
I don't think they are allowed to just use anything they find. Only things that pertain to whatever they are alleging would be sorted by a 3rd party or judge.

Actually I believe I heard that this will have little implication on Trump, but more for his lawyer. I could be wrong, who knows.

From my understanding, the feds will use a "taint" team to look through all the taken files and only forwarding the ones related to the warrant. However by law, the attorney-client privilege becomes null and void if they come across illegal activity so if there are any skeletons in the closet and the feds have it in their possession, it's game over for Cohen (and others).

If (when?) they find illegal activity, the taint-team will pass those up the ladder for further investigation...It's hard to believe but a porn star may just take down Trump...there is something incredible appropriate about all this.

Or it'll turn into yet another big bag of nothing like the last 18 months worth of investigations. Who knows! Wish the internet at large could just wait and find out instead of proclaiming "This time he's really gonna get it!" in so many different and sad ways.

1. These types of investigations take time. 18 months is nothing, especially considering the sensitive subject matter
2. Over 20 people have been indicted and/or got plea deals including Trump's campaign foreign policy adviser, former national security adviser, former campaign chair and former Trump campaign aide

Mueller was appointed in May of 2017 so its only been 11 months as far as this investigation is concerned. Secondly, its simply not over and in spite of the internet's impatience, it is actually proceeding very quickly and he is smartly leaving things like yesterday's news to other branches of the Justice Dept to pursue.

Thus far, Mueller has secured 4 guilty pleas (Flynn, Papadopoulos, Gates, Swaan), 32 charges against Manafort, 13 indictments against Russian nationals, and now it has sucked in the President's personal attorney. Other than that, yeah, a big bag of nothing.

Agh, that's the area I wasn't certain about. I was not sure if they were even permitted to bring up 'other' things not pertaining to the case.

I thought the alleged breach or abuse of attorney-client privilege was what enabled them to actually do the search in the first place.

And this time he's really gonna get it!

I have no love for the guy, I'm just tired of seeing this everywhere on the internet the last 11 months. It's clear that many many many people are more interested in seeing the "right outcome" from all of this than whatever the truth is.

Well...maybe you should say that next time (which is far more understandable) instead of saying patently false, dumb hyperbolic shit like the last 18 months has been a “big bag of nothing” ?

I agree that the posts of people saying 'this is what'll take em down!!' are dumb, but making equally dumb posts claiming nothing has happened during the entire investigation doesn't help anybody either.

Considering everything found has nothing to do with Trump, yeah, big bag of nothing seems accurate.

Trump was supposed to be in bed with Putin stealing the election. And all we've got so far is him in bed with a Porn Star watching Shark Week.

This whole election, before and after, is a fucking shit show.

Trump's campaign could literally say they would "love" to hear about "official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary" from the "Russian [...] government" and his cult would still not believe there's even a puff of smoke.

I'm ready for nothing to come from this.

I think this is a somethingburger for Cohen. Saw on TV executing 3 raids on a lawyer is pretty tough to pull off. Probably easy to secure a conviction and flip him.

Moreover, it's clear investigators are dedicating a lot of resources to make an example out of the president. It's kind of ridiculous the POTUS is under the microscope for white collar crime given the prevelance of it in the US where it's not taken seriously. In any event, it looks like whether the President does nothing or kicks off a court battle he's uncomfortably exposed in office as well as when he leaves. Must be tough to deal the demands of the oval office with this burden on your shoulders.

Petty and vindictive intelligence community
They've orchestrated so much evil in the face of the constitution that it's a wonder they aren't taking kindly to a President who doesn't kowtow to them.

“Wahh wahhh wahhh why is the vindictive intelligence community investigating the president of the fucking United States and his associates for white collar crimes!!??? SO UNFAIR! ...uhh...FAKE NEWS!...HILLARY!....SOROS!!! DEEEEEPSTATE!!!!!”

This is absurd. If Trump has done nothing, then he has nothing to fear. If his associates have done nothing, then they have nothing to fear. Only criminals and degenerates are afraid of the law (this is what republicans would say if this was a minority complaining about being unfairly searched).

Stop bitching. Let the investigation finish. Obviously the FBI wouldn’t be raiding a dude’s house if it was a nothing burger. Criminals need to pay for their crimes.

You do not get a warrant for the lawyer of the sitting president of the USA, signed by an attorney that donated 16 times to the Trump campaign, for a nothing burger.

Cohen's status as dealmaker for the Trump Org is a big deal. He's the guy they sent to places like Russia or Kazakhstan to broker deals, with some real unsavory people. if I was the Trump family, it'd be shitting my pants at the prospect of this guy flipping. And if they really did nothing, then just let the investigation run it's course. But no, Trump is going crazy and threatening to fire Sessions, Rosenstein and Mueller. Because Cohen's VIP status in the Trump business means he knows, who knew what.

It feels like since they haven't found any evidence on Trump regarding Russia they've now expanded the investigation to look for anything they can. It should be alarming they can go in and seize shit that falls under Attorney client privilege. And it's hypocrisy at it's finest considering they let Hillary off before the investigation was even complete.

If he’s innocent, he has nothing to fear. Hilary was investigated multiple times and nothing was found. Stop bitching.

I’ll give you the hypocrisy part.. but how do you know they don’t have anything on trump?
I’m pretty sure they won’t start any actions against trump until they know how deep the rabbit hole goes.. it would be pretty amateurish To just stop, when they can build a stronger case, with more evidence..
So hold your horses.. but that goes for both sides..

I personally think everyone is giving Trump too much credit. He's not smart enough to have colluded with Russia and have kept his mouth shut about it. And considering we're now 16 months into this and they're expanding into his personal affairs that is what I believe. Whether those around him broke the law is another matter but right now Trump looks like he surrounded himself with the wrong people and nothing more. The evidence thus far supports my opinion.

You are complaining about something that is a non issue. Collusion itself is not necessarily a crime; it’s what you do in colluding that is. Muller was authorized to investigate collusion and all incidental findings for that reason. So, Trump and his associates are being investigated and they found enough dirt to raid his attorney. What is the problem here? Are you suggesting they ignore all the incidental illegal shit they found because...it hurts your feelings? This was approved by Rosenstein...a republican. If Trump is innocent, he has nothing to fear. Period.

To your point about Hilary: there’s a reason why Trump and republicans said all this shit about locking her up and havent done anything. It’s because they know “jail Hilary!!!” is a nice rallying cry for mindless, gullible drones who cannot put aside their partisanship and think critically. Trump and his associates are being investigated by republican officials (Muller/Rosenstein) in a republican-controlled Congress. Let that sink in for a second. Why are they not going after Hilary? Because they know it’s bullshit. Use your fucking heads Jesus Christ. I am not fond of many of Hilary’s policies/decisions, but this Hilary/Soros/Deepstate shit is a fucking distraction. Stop regurgitating it. The objective truth is that Trump has surrounded himself with corrupt pieces of shit. We don’t know anything about Trump yet but wanting to fire the people investigating him does not inspire confidence. Think about that instead next time you feel like bitching about Hilary or rehashing Fox News talking points.

I think it's telling you can't convey your opinion without insulting others in the process. I warned you once and your failure to disagree in a respectful manner earns you the first spot on my ignore list. I don't know how old you are and now it doesn't matter but you're very defensive for someone who wants justice when it benefits your political party of choice and you're not too mature about it. Good day to you.

I may use a lot of profanity, but I didn’t explicitly direct any of it at you. The worse I’ve done in that post is say you’re bitching about something pointless and I’ve given you constructive reasons as to why. Did you expect to post this “but Hilary!” garbage and not be challenged about it? Have fun in your silly echo chamber where “bad opinions” can’t get to you while you ironically complain about snowflakes and sjws who can’t handle “freeeespeeeech” or what have you.

So sick of this garbage on this forum.

Kind of feels like you just dismissed him because he spat some truth.

Mueller and Rosenstein are both Republicans. Republicans have control of all three branches, if they wanted to they could launch an investigation into Hillary at any moment. After Benghazi and her email stuff, they know they don’t have anything on her. There is really no reason to be against this investigation unless you don’t want the truth to come out.

We literally witnessed the formation of an echo chamber with him. He had no counterpoints to my arguments presumably because they are sound and there isn’t much to argue about. So he complained about his feelings and decided to block someone challenging him to wake the fuck up.
