*** SPOILERS for FFVII and Advent Children***
Like you, I was extremely excited when I first heard that Final Fantasy: Advent Children was going to be released. This was the FFVII spin offs and I remember gathering around tens of university students to check out the movie as we stood by in front of a large TV screen.
When the movie came to an end, I noticed how people kept on cheering about how cool Cloud was and how awesome the fight scenes were. I had other things on my mind. Mainly, what the F*** happened to Red XIII? (my fave character)
For those of you who remembered Red XIII from the PS1 game. You'll remember than he blew everyone away with his witty comments and his great intellect. He was hands down the smartest member in the party.
I recently went through the trouble to find out if I probably missed anything and I finally realized that in Advent Children, Red XIII only says ONE LINE:
"There are still children with the stigma."
My immediate reaction to this was, "F U SqEeniX FOR KillinG mY FavE FFVIi CharaCtEr!!!"
My second favorite character was Cid, who hasn't even cursed once in the movie... another victim of Squeenix... or so I thought!!!!
What triggered my curiousity was Square Enix's loyalty to their fans and their consistency when it came to delivering high quality products. I finally arrived at a mind blowing conclusion after realizing that it wasn't possible for it to be that simple.
So, I once again geared myself up for a journey in search of truth...
I replayed FFVII in order to find out what the f*** happened to Red XIII.
-----------
From the start, right after Red XIII jumps on Hojo and helps the party, Barrett asks him, "What are you?"
Red XIII, realizing that Barrett is too dimwitted to match his intellect responds by saying, "An informed question. But difficult to answer. I am what you see..."
HOW DEEP IS THAT SH**!!! That's like some Neitzche stuff right there!
Later throughout the first disc, we find Red XIII being aware of what a Jenova specimen and is aware of what Cetra is.
When Cloud recalls a memory, Tifa interrupts but saying, "who would have ever thought the Mako Reactor held a secret like that."
Red XIII then adds that "would seem to explain the increase in the number of monsters
recently." At this point in time, Red XIII is still wise enough to make the connection. He continues, "I think we should listen carefully to Cloud. Don't you think so
Barret?"
Barrett thinks to himself, "Why are you talkin' to me?!"
It is because you are an idiot Barrett! You know that and Red XIII knows that! He is just proving to you that animals > humans.
If you thought that Red XIII was only smart, then you were wrong. He is very knowledgable with the technological advances of his time. In fact, he is the first to mention that the "PHS, will put us in constant contact with each other."
Without Red XIII, you wouldn't be able to switch party members. Thanks Red XIII. Appreciate Red XIII.
Let's fast forward a bit and look at what happens to Red XIII's speech patterns later on towards the game. On disc 2, Red XIII explains the Lifestream.
Red XIII: The Lifestream sometimes gushes out to the surface from cracks in the
ocean floor. I heard that such a place exists. Maybe, just maybe Cloud's......
Nope, nothing strange here.
Disc 3:
Red XIII: Holy should be moving soon and that means this place will...
Red XIII: It's too late for Holy. Meteor is approaching the Planet. Holy is
having the opposite effect. Forget Midgar, we've gotta worry about the Planet!
Red XIII is still as sharp as he always was.
The game ends and I gave up. There was no logical reasons as to why Red XIII seemed dumber in Advent Children. There appeared to be no logical reason as to why he became so much quieter and wasn't his usual talkative self.
That was until I noticed what happens after the credits!!!
Yes, it was finally clear. The world was hit by meteor and Red XIII was mutated. It was because of this that Red XIII's genes were altered and he lost his wit.
I can prove this scientifically.
Red XIII = forkhead mutation (confirmed)
Not only that, but the mutation also caused Red XIII to receive some feminine genes, which caused him to be able to breed with himself. This explains the cubs that are with him at the end of the game.
Yes, I know that this is mind blowing stuff. But don't thank me for this amazing discovery, thank Square Enix! Without their loyalty to providing great storylines and high quality products, us RPG fans would have to settle for sh** like Xenosaga.

Yes, it was finally clear. The world was hit by meteor and Red XIII was mutated. It was because of this that Red XIII's genes were altered and he lost his wit.
I can prove this scientifically.
Mutations in a number of forkhead transcription factors are associated with the development of inherited diseases in humans. Two closely related genes, FOXP2 and FOXP3, are implicated in two completely different human disorders. A point mutation in the forkhead domain of FOXP2 (R553H) is responsible for a severe speech and language disorder, while a series of missense mutations distributed over the forkhead domain of FOXP3 cause a fatal disorder called IPEX, characterized by immune dysregulation, polyendocrinopathy, and enteropathy.
Red XIII = forkhead mutation (confirmed)
Not only that, but the mutation also caused Red XIII to receive some feminine genes, which caused him to be able to breed with himself. This explains the cubs that are with him at the end of the game.
