I can't believe we're finally revisiting my nostalgic memories of the last time we got a next-gen trailer of FF7 and then waited for years of silence and vague teases

It's DIRECTED by Tetsuya Nomura man. His art is probably the most iconic in the industry.

There will be style. Whether you like it or not is another thing entirely.
So iconic that his original FF7 character designs seem foreign compared to the stuff he does nowadays

OH MY FUCKING GOD! I'm so overwhelmed right now, despite it being over an hour since the announcement.

GAF is still standing? Impressive!

No gameplay = :(

Game must be very far from done. I do hope fans keep their expectations in check. I worry that regardless of how good this remake is, expectations have been building for so long that they will be impossible to match for some.

I'm also curious. I know some worried that if this ever came to fruition that it would be a sign of weakness for SE. Like they could never top "this" so they could only use it as a last resort. I wonder if that sentiment still holds. It was neither right or wrong but certainly an interesting perspective.

All this "First" stuff reminds me that 3rd party exclusivity is a thing of the past.

I feel like he meant to post that in the Shenmue thread.

This is unbelievable I cannot wait!!! I hope they show some in game footage (unlikely) at the SE conference! I seriously wonder if Xbox will get this due to the lack of support in Japan. I am thinking PS4 and PC? Regardless, everyone should get to enjoy this remake!

even just teasing that sequel to Advent Children nonsense at the beginning was nauseating

Square-Enix just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by making uninspired remakes. If you screw with the fans in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase the FFVII remake for any system, nor will they purchase any of Square-Enix's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and cancel the FFVII remake or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Square Enix lost all self respect.
This will turn out a mess, they will do changes where they aren't necessary and make the game a shell of what it formerly was.

Mark my words, screenshot this. FF7 has so many things that won't fly in today's gaming standards.
You're freaking out.

Yes, FFVII vanilla has nuance that wouldn't work today. Doesn't mean that they can't make another game that's different but just as great. Whether it'll be a great game or not is something we won't know for years.

Hahaha, this is too big of an occasion for me to be phased by standard GAF negativity. I can't believe this shit is finally happening.

I hope this stays turn based and doesn't become an ARPG. :/
I think with it being a remake they will be changing a lot of stuff to bring it up to date and I can see the turn based battle system being one of the first things to be changed but we'll see what happens

So this is why Nojima and Nomura are no longer working on XV? Well done, Square Enix, you have done something good for a change!

this was the most satisfying announcement ever. cant wait to see more details.
my random based on nothing predictions:

game is a complete overhaul, mechanics/materia remain similar but redone. 3d world with fixed camera similar to lost odyssey. winter 2017 announced but delayed to 2018, then possibly delayed again to 2019. may become vaporware and the new e3 joke every year until 2020 when it shows up again.

2030 people start talking about how great the game was and start demanding a new HD remake.

FFXV
Kingdom Hearts 3
Grim Fandango Remaster
Street Fighter V
Last Guardian
FFVII Remake
Shenmue 3

Sony has really been aiming for those nostalgic long-awaited crowd pleasers. I'm half expecting them to convince Valve to make Half Life 3 a PS4 console exclusive.

So is everyone going to be bummed when it turns out it's a scene-for-scene remake with higher fidelity assets or is that exactly what people want? The fact that they're finally making it is exciting, but that CG teaser really makes me wish it was a fully realized 3d world to explore. Can you imagine? Basically it'd be nice if they spent the budget of XV on remakes of old FF games that I personally like. Sounds reasonable to me! lol

So was the PC port announcement just a troll? Did the remake exist when they announced that?

I'm not even a big FF7 fan, I prefer Crisis Core to the original game. But even I am so incredible hyped for this.
A big fucking megaton if there ever was one. I'll be there day one.

They would have said console exclusive if this wasn't coming out on the One. 15 isn't even announced for PC, and 13 pc ports seemed like such an after thought. I'm not sure this will come out on PC, and if it does it'll be long after even the Xboxone release. A shame too since FF7 came out on PC around the same time as it did on PSX. In any case I'll be grabbing it day 1 on PS4.
Some have other versions but it's looking like PS4 is the one system that gets them all. (15, 7, Chibi FF, Type-0, 14, X-HD, KH3)

This thing is gonna make them a fortune, throw in new areas, new monsters, new bosses, new storylines and just new stuff in general (specially golden saucer). This could be an amazing achievement if they don't cop out on putting the effort into it.

I downloaded and played a ton of it on my psp back in the day but never finished it. I really loved it though, even if the random encounters grated my nerves (I know this was part of the game).

But this time we're actually going to get the game?

...Right? RIGHT!?

We'd better!
