Final Fantasy 7 Remake Review Thread!

Looking good to me. Did I really just read in this thread it has bad voice acting? I must have played the wrong demo because I think its fantastic. Also did I read techincal issues like ugly textures? Again I must've played the wrong demo because at least on PRO it looks great. I didn't see any muddy texture at all.
The English voice acting in the demo was really bad.
That why most shifted to Japanese voices.
There are some ugly textures too... of course talking about the demo.

The texture problems became way more noticeable when you get to the slums and beyond. A certain apartment block you continually revisit has an issue where the door textures never fully load in. Personally they don't annoy me too much and I'm sure they'll be patched, but they are there.

As for the voice acting, are you serious? It's so exaggerated with cringeworthy lines galore. Every character is a caricature. From Barret's overacting stereotype to Wedge's one dimensional walking fat joke performance to Jessie's overenthusiastic, way too happy "every line is a god awful attempt to flirt" voice actor. Don't even get me started on Sephiroth; he sounds like an anime nerd trying to be sinister. About as intimidating as an angry moth.
Funny how some people were giving reviews with only finishing half the content.
They really don't need to finish the rest. Every side quest I've played so far is slapped on and is either a fetch quest with no challenge or the age old "hunt down a few recycled monsters in bland areas" quest.

This was suppose to be the time where everything was going to change. This was going to define what was/is possible. I kinda feel like I did after Final Fantasy XIII got released. A lot of genuine hype, but also a sense of low satisfaction. Somehow I feel better off knowing I've played the original multiple times over the course of 20 years and knowing this is not exactly the Holy Grail of Video Games.

I'll admit. Knowing how some people have already beaten it and that it scored low at some media outlets, has sorta deteriorated my excitement. I am excited to see how some of the later battles play out. I think the opening to the game has been their primary focus. I swear I've seen that intro more times then I would have liked to. Its like basing your remake around the first 5-10 minutes of the game.

What's this I hear about shitty Kingdom Hearts styled story elements invading this remake?

I'm conflicted.

Really want to play this, the perfect time to do so while this coronavirus stuff is going on.

However ideally I'd like to wait for the inevitable PC version since I'm not convinced about Sony's stance on backwards compatibility next gen.

Will mull over it a bit but if impressions are as strong as the reviews then my resolve will be tested, the demo was splendid.
Its not my favourite FF but I am planning to play it when all episodes gets released

God knows when they'll be done with it though since we're talking about Square Enix here

I think we all know this is never getting finished. I anticipate future episodes being what RE3 remake was to RE2 remake, solid but not as faithful to the original material with a multitude of cuts.

I won't eliminate that because its Square Enix. Thats why a part of me isn't even excited

Going to watch it now. So glad you don't do soy face youtube thumbnails. Most of the FF7 reviews on youtube have soy face thumbnails
I legit have no clue what that means. So...its possible it happens lol.

Also Mrmatty did one

3/5 from EGM is pretty close to my own impression based on all information we've gotten and the demo. It's too drawn out, bound to suffer from filler and pacing issues, trying too hard to make various nods, etc. That and the amount of retcons it introduces, changing characters, etc. Basically not understanding that sometimes "less is more". Trying to explain everything or trying to put everyone in the spotlight, is a surefire way to ruin a story. That's what's plagued the expanded universe of FFVII as well, with ridiculous concepts that should've had someone saying "no...".
In the demo what really annoyed me was how the characters couldn't learn to shut the fuck up and the way they've changed Jessie. It was really grating in the beginning, then later becoming sort of manageable.

That's why the demo cemented my decision to not buy it at launch and instead wait until the whole series is complete and purchase it then. My expectation for the future is that impressions of the game will get worse over the time and that people will have mostly been fuelled on nostalgia and hype alone. At least as far as classic FFVII fans.

I'm surprised anyone is giving this game a 10 TBH. My hype levels are through the roof but the sad truth is that this game could never be true 10/10 material simply based on what it is. As great as this game may be, it's still like only 35% of the story it's pulling from.

There's no way this game could POSSIBLY foster the same feelings as the original because it isn't a complete and closed narrative.

The only division in Square that's capable of recreating the magic of the earlier FF titles is the division responsible for Final Fantasy XIV, as they understand that creating a full-fleshed, consistent experience is what really makes a memorable game. And they've been experiencing slam dunk after slam dunk as a result.

8/10 seems fair, but as far as jRPGs go the remake is an embarrassment. The game length in particular is a huge disappointment. Especially because they promised that each part will be as big as your typical jRPG...

But 20 hour main quest and 40 hours with side missions is half as much as the average jRPG.

On the other hand it's long enough for casuals. They might at least finish the main story.

Guys, do you think CyberConnect2 could have done another kind of job on this remake?

"CyberConnect2
was previously involved in developing Final Fantasy VII Remake with Square Enix, but left the project (citing regular mismanagement) to resume development of their own projects and more amicable collaborations. They were tasked with developing the Final Fantasy VII Remake, described in CyberConnect2's March 2015 Famitsu job advertisement as a photo-realistic role-playing game targeted at the international market being built using Unreal Engine 4 involving physically based rendering. As of May 2017, it has been confirmed that Square Enix has taken over the development of Final Fantasy VII Remake. "

Lookin forward to getting it later this week.

Not worried about length since hard mode is locked behind beating it once. So I'll be playing it twice.

at this point i think anyone would do a better job than square just by making a 1:1 remake with shiny graphics...

They're not even going to have the Weapon fights or VIncent. To properly finish it, that's another 10+ years down the road (Going off of what HappyConsoleGamer said. He mentions that it feels like 6 more episodes to complete this thing). Its awesome, but there's so much left untouched.

I'm super excited to see these scenes that he was talking about in his review. I hear some are absolutely incredible. At first glance, giving any game a 10/10 for being eye candy and nostalgia heavy, is incredibly easy. I would have probably had a better attitude about it had I gotten a copy of it early. I'm not complaining too much. I really enjoyed playing RE3R.

You're absolutely right. Its not even close to being done and there's a lot of eye candy on the market. I think it'll be awesome to see some of these boss battles and seeing what happens at the end of the game. I actually feel better now than I did earlier. Earlier I just felt jealous and let down by lack of X, Y, and Z. I think Square-Enix worked incredibly hard to make this happen, but then you sorta see behind the smoke & mirrors and things are being put into a much larger perspective. This is like the appetizer before the main course. There might as well be a couple appetizers and some bread/butter on the table.

The linear parts have no texture issues are at the open world part. Feels like an early unreal engine 3 game on 360 no joke it is really bad. Hoping for a patch but by then I will have finished it. There are doors without textures in high quality cutscenes destroys the immersion totally 😩 still love the game.

The main game will be completed in a trilogy. I have a hard time believing 6 games for the series. In fact, I don't think that will ever happen. SE knows people will drown out from game fatigue the same way they did with the FF13 trilogy.

Been playing since Friday, on my way to Wall Market, it's a big-ass game.

I really love it. As a huge fan of the original with high expectations, I feel like they've done a lot right, and the new battle system is fun in a Kingdom Hearts/FFXIII/Crisis Core kind of way.

On a serious note, I hope they make it at most 3 parts.

3 parts feels right. I expect parts 2 and 3 to be longer than 1, but make more use of the open world format.

There's not going to be an open world aspect to the "Remake".

Seems like it's around what I expected. Overall good but some padding to stretch things out and some crappy Nomura style writing.
I'm fine with the length though. Hell, if anything I wish we had MORE 25 hours JRPG's .

Will get as soon as there's a decent price drop/sale

LOL. Its been out for like a week in Europe and Australia already. And patches usually don't release for any game until the offical launch day.

40 hour incomplete game for 60$...... just saying you could buy 3 20$ games with over 100 hours worth of playtime in each. My only gripe here is full price on an incomplete product, I just can't do that.

You can tell me that this game has 1/10 reviews, it doesn't matter. I'm like shit to fly in this regard. I NEED to play it, to see how they messed up everything. Its the defining game of my life and I cannot miss this one out. Lord be with me.

I'm a big fan of the game since the original release. Don't read the reviews, ignore them. Play the game and feel like you felt more than 20 years ago.
