Been listening to the soundtrack to increase my hype. Loving the music! It's soooo good. I really don't understand how some on GAF don't like a full orchestra. It feels like...

1997 gamer: They should do a fully orchestrated version of this amazing soundtrack. It would be great to get the same respect movies and other media get and produce something that anyone would want to listen to.

Have you ever played .hack series before? That series also divided to parts but each part full game, I imagine this game gonna be same way.

It's a scale of how much they personally enjoyed the game, there is no game without flaws but you like the game enough to enjoy that game. Also when a game gets 10 it doesn't guarantee you gonna enjoy it, this why you actually have to read or watch the review instead of just looking at the score.

You look at reviews as some kind of calculation of points, the game could be "flawless" and it dose everything it suppose to but the reviewer thought the gameplay is not his/her cup of tea, or hate the game's art direction.

I've found exploration anything but a major part of it. There are a few small "towns" you can explore with very little content and a few paths off the track.

The game is tightly controlled and there isn't much to see/do outside the main story.

Like if each one has a brand new battle system, that's gonna feel just weird. Yeah, the summons themselves work well but you can only use them in major boss battles and only one summon per battle. Just like exploration (and pretty much everything else) I think this is another area Square wants to tightly control so the summon specific battles feel more significant.

Surely stats and equipment will carry over. It would be weird if everything reset, especially if you played the games straight after each other.
 
Oh man! Is it Friday already? Serious question though... On neogaf I learned that Ps4pro can't have good games when xbox x has 2tf more so what's the deal?

Sometimes less is more, not always but sometimes. Personally I find it better when games don't overstay their welcome. I just don't get the idea that everything has to be this long drawn out game.

Each part are same games with minor improvements and all your saves and levels would transfer from each part.

All first 4 games considered one game and all G.U. games are its sequel.

I disagree. The towns alone are demonstrably much larger with more to see and do than the original. That section under the plate where you have to deactivate the lights is larger and more environmentally complex than any dungeon in the original game save for the Northern Cave. Exploration always pays off with an unlocked shortcut here, or a tucked-away chest there.

Now is it actually as good as the original? Imo no. And there's many situations where you're not allowed to take a clearly working future path because the story has other plans. And there's too many Naughty Dog-esque walking talking moments padding out the experience. But I'm frequently pleasantly surprised by how many traversal decisions the game allows me to make compared to their output over the last decade or so.
 
Overall I'm very pleased with the reviews. I don't think that any of the problems were unexpected given the previews the game had, and I'm really excited to get playing by the end of this week.
 
Just watched the ending. I haven't played through FF7 completely but I know a few things. It's looking pretty good and you won't be disappointed story wise. I'd be hype as fuck if I had played through that and had an interest in the old game.

I just hope we don't have to deal with some Heartless Angel type of attack where everyone's HP is stuck at 1. I wonder if there's some sorta auto-heal or instant revive technique.
 
Hopefully exploration opens up like it does in the original after Midgar. If they take out the world map it would be highly disappointing. Finding all the nooks and crannies in it is what made FF7 special.

40 hours is more than good enough for a full price game. I mean RE3 with its 4 or 5 hours is full price, now that is wrong imo.
I dont agree with paying $60 for each part though, especially as it was Squares decision to split it up into parts.

I loved RE3R and paid 40 for it. Ill gladly replay that a few times.

As far as FF7R, 40 hours is just right for me. I don't have huge amounts of time to spend on each game (I say that as I am also playing P5R LOL). If each of the FF7 releases justify has good gameplay and a good story then $60 is fine to me.
 
I woke up Monday morning and happily saw that the game has been completely downloaded on my PS4's HDD. Now, all I have to do is wait for Friday afternoon when I'll come back from work, and start playing (unless the supposed texture fix patch needs to download).

I managed to not spoil myself to a single YouTube video, though I remember the gist of the story from the old game.

Again, I urge you fine people to watch the amazing FFVII abridged series made by Cloudstrife8 (not the plain mediocre TFS version) and have a few laughs.

Man, Doom Eternal, Resident Evil 3, Final Fantasy VII, Mortal Kombat 11, Dragon Ball FighterZ … so many IPs I loved from so many years ago are now better than ever. It's so wonderful for me.
 
I'm pretty damn hyped for this, for many years now like countless others. Even with certain (personally) expected changes and such. I'm just looking for a good fun time, which I had with the demo. I thought everything was fantastic for the most part.

When it comes to 10's and other rating scales, its important to remember that it applies to that reviewer's opinion, and two it applies to the time frame in which it was published. So I take no offense to someone praising a title with a full score if it meant that much to them personally, and like other proclaimed classics from various mediums across time, it stands as a something great from the era in which it was produced. Can or does it have faults? Sure, its made by humans which are inherently flawed, and subject to each individual's opinion and interpretation of what constitutes quality, good/bad, and fun. Life is way too short to get one's panties in a bunch over some superficial numerical aggregate. Then again I suppose looking for flaws and nitpicking/complaining is a hobby in itself for some people. Not to say I don't think complaints about design, story, and marketing decisions are not warranted or legitimate.

I like the guy and usually share some opinions, and I can feel for his complaints, but I love the game too much to not give it a full chance by myself. Would I prefer a 1:1 remake? Yes absolutely. But I honestly never expected it. But I will enjoy it for what it is, Friday can't get here soon enough!

Doom, Final Fantasy, and DBZ are probably my three favorite properties (and I like Resident Evil a lot as well), and yeah now is a great time for all three of those. I have all 6 main Doom games on my PS4 now and of course the new Doom games are sick, we finally have the first part of the FFVII Remake, and for DBZ we have both an excellent fighting game and a very solid open world Action-RPG. Feels kind of surreal, and ironic since playing video games is one of the few things we can do these days lol.

Now LOTR is up there for me as well, and I'm not a fan of the Shadow games. Hoping for a proper open world RPG like The White Council was going to be...

Yeah I don't know the details of the ending stuff, but I'm definitely open to the gist of what I'm hearing. At the end of the day I just want to play a great Final Fantasy game again. It's been too long. And that could be a brand new Final Fantasy, it could be a 1:1 remake of FFVII, or FFVII with changes. I'm down to clown as long as it's cool.

It's weird that people see "remake" and assume that it'll be 1:1. Have we ever had a title that was actually remade be 1:1? I mean, the only ones that have been to my knowledge are the "HD" versions or ones that are clearly just visual upgrades/updates. My understanding is that all the previous "remakes" (RE1, RE2, RE3, MGS: Twin Snakes, etc.) come with some new changes, because well, original fans already played it and they want to change it up a bit to add some fresh things to old players. Doesn't seem like a far fetched thought.

Regardless the term "remake" or even "reboot" doesn't mean it's a 1:1 replica that's been given a graphics upgrade and that's it. Not sure where that mindset came from.

Funny to see such divisive scores, but I trust the folks I've seen talk highly of it. These are also people going in and not assuming it'll be EXACTLY like the game they played 20+ years ago. I loved the original, I really enjoyed the demo, so I'm sure I'll be a big fan. Gonna try to avoid spoilers as best as I can.
 
All the reviews that mention the convoluted, Kingdom Hearts-esque ending have me rolling. Only Square Enix could take a game with a convoluted plot and somehow make it even more incomprehensible 23 years later.

I don't think I'm excited for the game anymore.
 
i really dont care game scores because this game graphics/gameplay alone is a 10, but in comparison a game like Kentucky Route Zero gets a 87 in Metacritic just to put an example.
i always felt that critics dont give 9's or 10's its because they need to feel different and special so they give 7 or 8's when cleary the game deserves more.
 
All I have to say is fuck this game. I just cancelled my preorder. How the hell SE thinks they can scam people by calling this a FF7 remake when it isn't is beyond me. Way to kill my years worth of hype SE.

I'm surprised you feel that way (I'm presuming you beat the game). Kinda Funny impressions said it felt like a very complete game with a beginning, middle and end despite it been part of a larger trilogy.

You can't of liked The Matrix or Fellowship of the Ring either 😉

The slapfight over the episodic nature of the game and whether it's a "full" game is a distraction from the real issue of the fucking TIME GHOSTS.
 
I'm curious if people on here were just as upset back in 2015 when MGSV came out an incomplete game, having repeat story missions, releasing at full retail price and Konami and Kojima didn't tell the consumers at all that it was an incomplete game (correct me if I'm mistaken)?

It's like saying "I paid full price to watch that movie but they're going to make a sequel next year? I feel ripped off."

With FF7 Remake the game feels like its worth $60 and the production value seems very high. That justifies the $60 price tag to me. No difference then games ending on a cliffhanger ex: TLOU

It's the opposite that's flabbergasting, it's such a servile mindset to have. "Remake" was never, is not and will never be an excuse to do whatever you want with a product.
Nobody expects 1:1, most people (even the liars) expected it to keep at least the plot elements that made it as popular as it is.
All the games you mentioned take liberties but the story begins the same and ends the same.
Resident Evil 3 Remake has

Brad Vickers hurt differently and zombified, it features UBCS surviving longer, Nicholai acting different, the train is full of survivors. Carlos goes to the RPD and there's a bunch of design changes in terms of locations etc.
Does it change the ending outcome? No.
Jill gets infected, Carlos deals with it, all the possible survivors are killed, Brad dies (and he infected Marvin which changes absolutely nothing in the plot because both are meant to die anyway), Jill and Carlos leave as the city is nuked, all the UBCS that were dead are dead. There's maybe one character whose fate changed but he was so irrelevant and he never actually appeared again in any sequel of my knowledge.

If that's the kinda liberties Square wants to take with FFVII (like, Aerith survives the stabbing but then a brick hits her on the head or she slips on a banana peel) that's perfectly fine. Any more and you ruined it.

This is more like LOTR 1 where they defeat the Witch of Angmar in the woods thanks to Pippin, then Gandalf the White shows up, he flies an eagle to drop the ring in Mount Doom and the rest of the movies is...things happening.

Yes. Also MGS5 was a prequel of a series where the first sequel got s**t on for bait and switch, so.
The biggest problem is that FFVIIr makes sure to mess with FFVII, it's not a separate deal. "There's always the original" is not exactly correct.

The PS3/360 gen was all about cliffhangers. That's nothing new. All this talk about crazy plots and the game being under 30 hours for the main quest has gotten me kinda excited.

So there's no real strategy guide being released? I saw one on the iTunes Store for $15. Japan got all the cool stuff: figures, glass cups, and all kinds of cool stuff. We get a GameStop exclusive Shinra card? Why do we always get the low grade trash? Japan gets all the high (slightly better) quality stuff. GameStop gives you all the crappy stuff. A Shinra UMD case for Crisis Core? I would have loved to have gone to the Square-Enix cafe and see the Final Fantasy VII stuff.

I think the outcome of the game is more than optimal in the end.
And I can't wait to be able to play it personally.
And in the meantime, I'm avoiding all the biggest spoilers about the game. For a new Final Fantasy game always Hype.

Its gonna get undeserved 9s and 10s because nostalgia.

Im loving it, but it has flaws. Number one being the restriction on movement faaaar too often.
