Final Fantasy 7 Remake Review Thread!

I'm supposed to get my copy Wednesday.... though wonder if I should wait till the day 1 patch for those textures. Or maybe I'll just play through it twice, fuck it.

Theres a texture pack to download?

It's basically just an assumption that there will be a Day 1 patch to fix those texture issues, but there's no evidence of that happening besides just being an assumption. One of the reviewers said Square Enix never mentioned a Day 1 patch.

I am not very active these days because of the well-known problem that now afflicts this historical period.
Covid19

I think the outcome of the game is more than optimal in the end.
And I can't wait to be able to play it personally.
And in the meantime, I'm avoiding all the biggest spoilers about the game. For a new Final Fantasy game always Hype.
And in this case,
Hype over 9999 x 15 = Omnislash :messenger_smiling_hearts:
Hope your doing OK. Glad your here.
You're doing the OT, right!?

Thanks :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:
I'm ok for now.

I don't know if Mista or someone else is already doing the OT for FFVII Remake. Or do I do it?
If I did, I would do something complex but cool. Although it would take a little while to do it properly.

Comparing this to the other SE titles:

Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood: 89
Nier Automata: 88
FFVII Remake: 87
Dragon Quest XI: 86
Dragon Quest Builders 2: 86
Dragon Quest Builders: 83
Kingdom Hearts III: 83
Final Fantasy XV: 81

Does anyone think there is a chance there won't be a Day One Patch as I've been tempted to play this beauty since Friday.

The most important question is: Is it a one time $60 or am I going to pay $60 for each episode?

SE didn't make this point clear
I'm sure they'll all be seperate full priced games. Which I don't mind as long as they all have enough worthwhile content to justify the price tag.

For someone who's intending on playing this in Classic Mode, does it still default to easy difficulty as it did in the demo? Or can I play in normal/hard?

No but some of the reviews have been saying there have been some fairly significant texture pop, low rez, and blocky objects, and I'm hoping a day 1 patch fixes some of that up. Might be wishful thinking though 🤷‍♂️

oh damn. I've just been looking at scores, trying to go in dark. That's a Bummer to hear

Nier Automata was a freaking masterpiece, easily game of the decade imo, far better than more undeserving titles. For it to score 88 shows how flawed this rating system is, SE haters will do anything to bring the score down. If this is any indication of what FF7R is going through, I can expect another masterpiece from them. Fuck haters!

Hold on, let me get this right. You're complaining cause it got 88 like if 88 means its an "okay" game? .. You wanted to see a 98 or what?

What I'm saying is I see undeserving games from Nintendo (e.g. Animal Crossing) getting higher scores, than a true masterpiece. If that mean it deserves a 98 or more, so be it.

Animal Crossing is a great game. There's no conspiracy theories here by the way

Imagine being so focused on a meta score so much you wanna have a dig on other games?

Who gives a shit? You enjoyed the game to the max and this what matters. This whole metacritic and digital foundry are driving people insane ffs...

That's contrary to what I heard, Animal Crossing has a bunch of issues, which is why it received a 5.3 user score. Regardless I don't give a shit about scores, I know they come from paid shills anyway that's why Nintendo games rarely scores below the 90's. I only care about games that appeals to me, not scores, I just find it ironic they don't know the difference from an average game to a true masterpiece.

What have you "heard"? No I don't judge according to what I "heard", I judge after experiencing the thing. The users review bombed the game because of a stupid decision that is limiting one island per console. Yeah, I can tell that you really don't care about scores. Just like how you suddenly recognised a game issues without even playing it? Sure. :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

I don't need to play a game if they're legitimate concerns or complaints, I heard you can't make or share an island (whatever the fuck that means) on the same console? I don't play kiddy games, but sounds like a legitimate complaint to me, reasonable enough to bring the score down from the undeserving 90's. But hell what do I know, I guess legitimate flaws don't apply to Nintendo.

It baffles me that there're people with this joke of a mentality. Anything under 90+ is "underrated" or "that wasn't fair"

Reality check: Anything 80+ is considered a good game.

I dunno, P5 (the 2017 one) didn't feel like a 90++ game, more like an 87 or 86 to me. I liked Nier Automata and DQXI a lot more. 🤷‍♂️

For me it was a 90+ game🤷🏻‍♂️ Thats why whatever the fuck a metascore is shouldn't apply to you. Scores doesn't take away what you enjoyed and I'm not going to waste my time explaining something that is common sense

Classic mode uses easy difficulty in the retail version. It seems there's no way to play classic with normal difficulty.

Is confirmed that main game is only 20 hours long? One chapter in cold steel is 20 hours by itself.

Credits are rolling.
Easy 10/10, Probably in my all time top 5 games.

So happy they made Midgar it's own game. It's so refreshing to see a company trying to get my money the right way, by giving me more/better content.

how many hours did you spend? did you finish it 100%?

what battle system did you chose?
I chose normal, classic mode might sound appealing to some but they make it clear they have no intention of challenging you with it.

Games not a walk in the park but I like dying a lot in my games especially on the first playthough, so I gave myself handicaps.

This. This so much. For the life of me, I cannot understand why people hate the fact SquareEnix is EXPANDING and BUILDING upon the original. I loved the story and the characters, and the remake will give me MORE scenes with those characters, MORE adventures, MORE emphasis, MORE emotions.

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't applaud the fact that Cloud has to search for kittens and whatnot, I'm referring to actual cutscenes and dialogues that build upon those gaming icons I grew up with and had my first JRPG experience.

Yes, probably as easy or easier than easy mode, a real shame for those who were excited for it imo. That said, I barely played it so if you are interested I suppose you could ask someone else, it could become challenging after chapter 3 and maybe you can make it as hard as normal if you avoid buying potions or something like that.

I don't want to piss on anybody's chips but I've read a few reviews this morn and the reception seems a bit mixed. I wonder how people will feel when the hype finally wears off because it seems like the decision to only have the game in Midgar has led to quite a few problems with padding - especially sidequests. The combat too has been contentious with reviewers suggesting it's too straightforward, lacking strategy.

HOWEVER, it seems they've done a great job with the characters, making them feel more lively and full. That's a very good thing and as somebody playing FFX right now, I certainly welcome characters who aren't fucking awful. This is probably a more important thing now in the TV Age where people expect depth, not just cardboard cutouts (I like the original game but it had issues there).

Are we talking about user reviews? Because critic reviews are overwhelmingly positive, most of them praising the battle system and pacing. Pretty much every review I see so far stating the fact some of the optional quests are lacking is a super minor complaint. If you thought it wasn't great and wanna warn people that's great. But critic reception being mixed is just false.
