They should be doing that even without, there's no retail chain that gets a big cut.
The government or whichever instance responsible should step in, because we shouldn't be paying for online gaming on consoles.
You're not on the PC or mobile and you already paid for the game and the console, but if it has a online component (generally speaking) and requires PS+/Live like most games you can't play.
That shit is crooked because you're being charged twice and they should be fined for it /rant.

Shame since FF7R would be the first physical copy that I've bought in a long time. I think the last physical game I bought was R6 Siege. I've really gotten used to digital gaming.

Seems like Amazon won't be releasing FF7 on time as they are prioritising more essential deliveries. I'd recommend supporting another retailer you wouldn't have before (like a supermarket or a game store) over going digital. Hell, buy it off Square Enix's site.
