FINAL FANTASY XVI - Your hopes, dreams and fears!

Less dudes? :p

More specifically, a more diverse main cast. I feel like I'm just not going to enjoy the whole bro's road trip. But I do hope I'm wrong.

(For the record, I was never much of a fan of X-2 having an entirely female cast, either)

I just like variety.

I want a job system and mixing and matching abilities (more FFV, less FF12IZJS).

Ito directing would also be great, but then who would handle janitorial duties?

Naoshi Mizuta should be the next composer based on his FFXIII-2 and LR work. Quoting myself:

Mizuta is the closest you get to Uematsu in that his music is more "memorable"/simpler (not in a bad way, just not particularly complex like Hamauzu/Sakimoto).
At first I felt he was too similiar to Uematsu, but after FF Dimensions, FFXIII-2 and LR I really started liking his work more and more. It's a pretty good compromise between Uematsu's and Hamauzu's styles.
I have to admit, with a few of Mizuta's FFXIII-2 and LR songs I sometimes couldn't tell if it was him, Suzuki or Hamauzu and this means a lot coming from a huge stan of latter like me^^ Mizuta's good at "emulating" Hamauzu and Suzuki which makes everything a bit more coherent.

Here are some of his better songs:

FF Dimensions (really Uematsu-esque, though deliberately --- EDIT: Now that I think about it: it's not really that similiar to Uematsu; Mizuta definitely has his own sound here and I like it):

Obligatory Verendus posts about FFXVI from 2013-2014:

If that's all true, I might just get my wish for a move forward in regards to the series' setting! Can't yet say if I'd like the ATB to come back in a turn based fashion or if I'd prefer FFXV's battle system as I decided not to play the demo, so that will have to wait until the game is out.

Yeah, the other tracks really, really blend in with the overall tone of the soundtrack. It's as close as a match as Sekito's work in the later KH entries, or Mizuta and Suzuki in XIII-2/LR.

Wow, Feywood was Iwata, not Sakimoto. That was actually one of my go-tos for representing what I found a little tiresome about Sakimoto's work on XII. But it was really just someone else channeling Sakimoto!

Basically the three things I want the most out of FFXVI:

1. Female Main Character inspired or directly lifted from Agni's Philosophy. I don't want Lightning 2.0, so in my mind the complete opposite of Lightning would be someone who is more magic-focused and less physically capable, like Terra. I would also like a female character who doesn't hold back her emotions, instead of being an emotionless/stoic boring character who rarely engages with her friends or family.

2. Heavy Western Influence....Done Right. Square's finally embracing the notion of outsourcing their franchises to other (more capable) studios, so I would like to see that trend with FFXVI to avoid another ten year development. This could also benefit in creating some modern day QOL features like better flowing dialog, streamlined menus, content, etc.

3. Gen Urobuchi as Writer. Urobuchi mentioned in an interview that he would love to write for a big budget Skyrim-style RPG. His past accomplishments speak for themselves, and I would love to see what he could do with an RPG length narrative.

even if results in zero chance for a sequel due to everyone dying and/or the world state getting utterly fucked

I made a FFXVI thread before, mod doesn't like random speculative thread like it.

But for the record, it has to be Hiroyuki Ito's project. It just fucking has to be.

Here's my dream team:

Director: Tetsuya Nomura - Nomura is clearly capable of handling FFVIIR, KHIII and a new mainline FF title. I mean, the guy worked on FFXV and a dozen Kingdom Hearts handheld spinoffs in a decade, and let's not forget he managed to throw TWEWY out there as well. He's organized, has vision, and the dude can pump out a game in a matter of seconds.

Composer: Tetsuya Nomura - While some may say that he's had little experience in this field, I think it would beneficial for the series to have something we'd never expect, and that's something only Nomura can offer.

Producer: Tetsuya Nomura - If Nomura's produced anything in the past decade, it's fan anticipation, confusion and tense anxiety, vital ingredients for making a compelling narrative. Also, belts and zippers. He's a fashion genius.

Writer: Tetsuya Nomura - I'm convinced the guy who wrote the story for Kingdom Hearts Coded can do no wrong. If he can pull off that masterpiece while intoxicated, then think of what he can do while sober!

Wait, did I day dream team? I meant nightmare team. You asked for fears.

In all seriousness, I think the OP's selection and hopes are pretty solid overall. I'd like to see Yoko Shimomura take over as main composer of the series for awhile, but some new blood really can't hurt. Ultimately, I think it's time to pass the torch to a new generation of devs. I really am curious to see what Ito has been working on for so long.

All female cast. They're doing all male with XV, party wise. Do all female. Make a sort of chick flick. I wanna see the salt pouring from the sockets.

That has a name, it's FFX-2 and I hated it because it shat on FFX's beautiful ending, had a girls band for a cast and included the job switching system that I despise. What's so wrong with having one haracter be good at his job? I know it's not a question of one being better than the other, it's different styles and mechanics. I simply rage whenever the job system is mentioned. :p

I don't think a single person would complain about this.

Just think of an FF Girls Crossover where the main party members were Tifa, Celes, Rikku and Rydia.

That would be an S tier party right there.

I'm with you on Hiroyuki Ito as IX is my favorite.

For a composer I would like to say Yoko, but only if she can make it more distinct and snes sounding like she did with Super Mario RPG. If not her then a bold choice that I know won't happen is Koji Kondo. I'd like to see how he would compose a Final Fantasy soundtrack.

As far as setting and gameplay goes I'd like a setting influenced from a decade like 40s or whatever or either they can go back to the old school medieval settings. As far as gameplay goes I would prefer either the job system or giving characters predetermined jobs like IV, VI, IX, and X. In the case of VI and X characters could learn a multitude of abilities in which you could make them take any role you want, but they also had their own starting roles and exclusive abilities. I would personally make it like IV and IX in which they have these strict jobs and can't attach abilities from those outside of that job.

The cast should have a non-human character this time around as well and a black girl this time.

Yeah I meant mainline installment as I thought the topic was about. I mean a more serious one with a great female cast that isn't trying to be ridiculously silly.

No Nomura. No Toriyama. I'd like to see Amano (as a designer) and/or Uematsu return (at the very least bring the prelude and the FF theme back), but haha, yeah right. Just get some new blood in there. No more Kingdom Hearts inspired garbage.

I'll settle for no Nomura.

I would honestly be fine with Ivalice installments from here to eternity. Just wish Matsuno were a more consistent working designer.

A turn based system where - once a gauge is filled - you have a set number of time to attack the enemy in real time.

Also, you play from the summons' point of view.

I'm really intrigued by the "Agni's Philosophy" concept, so a chance to see it fully realized would be pretty cool. I don't really care who's directing it as long as they manage to get their vision truly fledged out.

Yoko Shimomura on the soundtrack would be godlike though. She's been in a lot of projects these days already, so maybe it would be a bit of an overload, but I can't ever get enough marvels from her <3

I'll play FFXV first and see how I like it. I don't want a turn-based system unless its heavily modified. Vanilla turn-based is kinda boring now.

Naoshi Mizuta should be the next composer based on his FFXIII-2 and LR work. Quoting myself:

For me, if it's not Shinomura or Uematsu(though I'd love for him to return in some way, even if it's just contributing a handful of tracks), Mizuta's the way to go. I honestly dislike the majority of Ishimoto's music(just don't like his original stuff) and Hamauzu, I can't get into(though I don't dislike his stuff more than Ishimoto).

But yeah, I'd kill for a medieval FF game with a world similar, but more fantastic than the ones seen in FFXI and FFIVX, something skirting FFIX, just non-chibi, a world of magic and mystery, legions of knights, kings that rule from their castles, forests densely rich of enchantment, dark and deep dungeons of unspeakable horrors, creatures of fables and lore, and such. Were technology is heavily steampunk-ish(noticed how crazy some of the tech looked in FFIX):

Basically, something medieval with that zesty whimsical nature that keeps the medieval setting from becoming pure "grimdark", grit and steel realism(even though there can be really dark parts regardless of the overall world being fantastical).

XV sounds at times similar to KH, yes. But Type-0 does also sound very similar to Dissidia. Especially one of the songs they used for the trailers of both.

Still, it would be interesting having him as the composer of a mainline entry.

Back to medieval fantasy something akin to FF IX would be great. After XIII, XV and VII:R I think it's time.

But we had 14...

I want them to keep defying the fantasy genre expectations. We have thousands of epic medieval games, let's keep FF as a way to experiment and evolve, for better or for worse.

Final Fantasy 16 isn't coming until after 2020 and that's totally fine. Sure, the wait is long but it's better for it in the long run if development is good.

I just want a gorgeous female lead for Final Fantasy 16 that has a likeable personality. I'm fine with turn based and real time combat ;)

My hopes? I hope it's not beeing announced until ~E3 2017(+)t.

But seriously I'd like to see a world in the veins of FFIX with animal like characters and fantastical kingdoms. I wouldn't mind a return to a turn based battle system but I'd much rather play an action-RPG nowadays.

We can't have an ugly female lead? I want an ugly female lead.

Ito directing.

Gameplay is improved and evolved from FF12.

Setting is medieval.

More mature story.

Lead character is over 20.

Has a deep job system.

It's been 10 years since Ito got to direct a game for SE. The time has come to let him out of his office and make another game.

I just want them to scale back their graphic ambitions a bit. We dont need the hyper realistic models or backgrounds, something efficient and stylized is totally fine. It might help them get these out the door twice as fast.

I'd love for them to go as far as returning to pre-rendered backgrounds, but I know there's zero chance of that.

I think it will be. Most of us seem to want him to and who else at SQE would do it anyway? They'd have to be insane to get Motomu Toriyama in charge again and the rest of the strong guys are busy with other projects. Ito is really the only one that has been suspiciously doing nothing of late! Has to be a hint.

My only real fear is that they will try to surpass XV, and it won't be released until the end of the next generation
