they better fix that clunky & unresponsive aiming system and give the multiplayer more needed attention (more players cant hurt to).

yeah the graphics shown don't look to hot.

Is that an original song they are playing in the beginning of the trailer? I rather like it. O and, I really liked the first Army of Two and I'm looking forward to this one very much.

Seems like a decent enough game but I really wish they didnt choose such crappy characters, it basically makes it impossible for the game to have a decent story.

Generation Kill somehow managed to do it. Well, I take that back. Those guys were bros, but they were still likable.

Well, for EA Montreal, it's not about what the disaster is. It's about how you get through it. With The 40th Day, the team is aiming to remove as many obstacles from the first game's control scheme as they can, while still adding the functionality to let you execute the same ideas you might otherwise talk about but never put into action. In terms of controls, one of the biggies is the newly automated cover system. One legacy that this sequel is carrying over from the original Army of Two is a heavy reliance on cover while engaged in firefights. This time around, all you need to do is be set in a crouch position and you'll automatically lean your shoulder against a wall. The difference between peering out the side of cover and dashing over to the next object is a matter of how hard you push the analog stick.

This system feels a bit looser than the black-or-white, in-or-out cover system used in most cover shooters, but we really like the subtlety and freedom of movement it offers. It also helps to minimize the amount of button-pressing you'll be doing in the heat of battle. Another way the devlopers tackled this issue is by mapping grenades and melee attacks to their own specific buttons. If you've ever played a game where you needed to toggle between gun and grenade or gun and knife with one button and then use them with another button, you'll come to appreciate that added simplicity.

That gives you the general idea of what EA Montreal is trying to deliver with the playbook--a way for players to take ideas they might throw back and forth over their Xbox or PlayStation headsets and give them tools to pull those ideas off in the game. But outside of the playbook, a few other tricks have been added to let you tackle enemies a bit more creatively. Our favorite was the mock surrender. With this technique, you can have one player lift his arms and walk into a group of enemies as if to say, "I give up! Please don't kill me." If you're lucky, they'll abide by your wishes and walk over to inspect you. Naturally, that's when your teammate drops them with a well-placed spray of bullets.

Nice.

I hope you can get rid of that kid.

Liked the first a lot, local co-op was damn fun.

Why would you want to get rid of the kid? He can probably do some serious damage with those big ass boots.

As long as the shooting is improved. It was terrible in the first one, trying to hit a moving target was ridiculous as your bullets traveled so slow.

I kind of wish they weren't going so serious with this. Ao2 seems like it'd benefit from something a bit more tongue in cheek.

I hope the actually gunplay mechanic is better in this one.

Playing through Army of Two right now (trying too!) but the game is soooooooo damn boring. The shooting mechanic and enemy AI seem to be lifted straight out of the conflict games on Xbox.

Jeez half of gaf just got banned for dumb ass hate speech.

Anyways Cool trailer, but the first game left one bad taste in my mouth soo.... we'll see

Well I sure hope they have time to polish the effects and stuff. The dust cloud after the collapsing building made actually laugh out loud. Car and Bus crash weren't too hot either.

I don't know what to expect here.

The first one was a mixed bag of gameplay combined with an awful ending. I will keep my eye on this, but if I'm honest I don't really expect much.

Everything completely believable except for the A-10 crashing. That's impossible.

I'll pick it up when it hits the bargain bin, good cheap fun with a buddy.

looks interesting but i'm scared.

The first one had so many freezes in it, it was ridiculous to even play.

Same here.

I'll probably rent this unless the difference in the sequel is the difference between Street Fighter and Street Fighter 2. I always felt that whatever the first game did right in the singleplayer, the multiplayer was light years behind the competition.

More like Army of Two and a Half, amirite?

I'm going to flip out if we have escort missions besides the "one person drag someone to location x while the other person covers them" type of thing

Army Of Two: The 40th Day Team Tease Multiplayer Early, Annoy PR Folks

Reid Schneider and Alex Hutchinson, executive producer and creative director for Army of Two, respectively, spoke about the game's forthcoming sequel at Comic-Con today. Hutchinson touched on The 40th Day's new multiplayer modes, just a bit earlier than officially planned.

While the full, official reveal of Army Of Two: The 40th Day's versus modes will be unveiled "shortly," Hutchinson made Schneider a bit nervous with the details he offered. The creative director said to expect a "fully client/server" connection, with "many more modes and more people allowed to play."

The original Army of Two featured a trio of multiplayer game types, supporting up to four players.

Expect to be able to drop in and drop out of co-op focused multiplayer matches. And say goodbye to the region locked restriction on multiplayer games. The 40th Day dudes say you'll be able to play with your global buddies, making a co-op get together a little bit easier.

Looks good and sounds great. Interesting that this seems like a true sequel where there's tons of improvements.

Is the first game worth buying? I wanted to play it, but never got around to it. (Would be selling back right after, I prefer to buy then sell versus rent)

If you can get it cheap and have someone to play co-op with you than ya it's worth it IMO

First game was mediocre coop experience, that basically was a rental. The competitive multiplayer was weak. Played through the first with a buddy, we were like "ok this is kinda fun".... then by the end we stopped caring and were glad it was an extremely short game.

I hated the first game so much. What an unlikable, joyless mess. To this day, it's the only game I have ever returned. And I returned it within six hours of actually buying it.

The first one sold 2.5 million copies. It actually has a large fanbase, they just don't exist on GAF.

I care a little bit. I had enough fun in co-op with my friend to give this one a rent.

looking good so far

I hated the first one but it had alot of potential, the aiming mechanics was terrible and always felt off, the cover was not precise like Gears of War and the multiplayer was bland offering only 2v2 with annoying NPC in the middle ruining the firefights.

Hopefully these issues are address, adding more players, last man standing or Deathmatch mode without NPC's interference would be tops, DAY 1 in fact.

looking for a GOW/ 3rd person cover shooter replacement just like many other players who left the total abomination that was Gears 2 multiplayer

Electronic Arts has revealed Army of Two: The 40th Day will get a North American release on January 12, 2010. The game will be released four days earlier in Europe on January 8.

The company also revealed the game's pre-order bonus, which gives players early access to the multiplayer mode 'Extraction.' The mode will be unlocked for everyone one month later. EA says 'Extraction' "pits a team of four players against a series of unique enemy waves as they move from point to point in the ruined city."
