First FFXIII News? Hmmmm

There is no way in hell that FFXIII will be on X360 or Revolution.

Not that I think it will happen, but you should never make predictions like that. They often come back to bite you in the arse.

I didn't know FFVI came out for GBA.

What cart is it on?

it hasnt been released yet. Just announced for this year. 1,2, and 4 are out for gba now. 5 and 6 later this year(i dont know if there on the same cart or what , but i dont think they are)

PC is pretty much irrelevant to the discussion.

90% of that list is remakes of older games YEARS and YEARS after the fact, some of which appear on handhelds, which are quite separate from consoles.

I'm pretty sure when people talk about wanting a game multi-platform they don't really give a damn about PC, especially considering this board, aka more like multi-console to be specific.

Ohh, thanks. I had no idea.

Is this just for GBA?

I'm dying to replay FF6, but I wanted a better update, not just a port.

I haven't bought a GBA game since Tony Hawk 2 at launch, haha.
I want a DS version or a full upgrade :(

This tech demo was made in four months so yeah they should be able to deliver a great looking game

Like somebody said before Square showed Final Fantasy X before FFIX's release, I am sure we will get some FFXIII info this year.

That was when FF was in the hands of a developer that could get it out on time. News probably already would've been announced had if FF12 had been on schedule.

Don't worry, Wada said they would announce if FF and DQ will go multiplatform or not at E3 2006. With that I am sure they will tell us more about the game

Himuro said:
Actually Doom bringer, FFIX, FFX, and XI were all announced at the same time at a conference.

Yeah, I was a super crazy FF fan back in those days. That was very exciting.

Didn't he just say they by E3 they'd know whether or not they'd do it, not that they'd announce it there? Recently Nomura said there are going to be no big announcements from Square for all of this year.

Seeing these just makes me even more peeved that I'm going to have to watch these cinematics in ghetto-ass 480, 4:3. Ooh, maybe letterboxed!

Fucking Last Gen. Stop making games I want to play, already!

No, I think they already know if they want to make the series multiplatform or not right now. The R&D takes a lot of time and they have to deliver the game by mid 2007 otherwise the fans will go nuts. The production for the game should be well underway by now and lets just say that PS3 is the lead platform. So they continue development until E3 and then decide to put it on X360 as well, the team will have to scramble and port the game to 360, that would lead to a delay/rushed port.

There's already a FF in development for the PS3, it has been since the demo was released according ot Kitase. But he won't say whether or not its FF13.

Its probably Final Fantasy XIII. It cant be anything else, I hope its not the FF7 remake cause I want a new FF :)

It was the best day ever.

Yeah, when I saw that leaked video of Tidus running near the temple area I was "OMGWTF! Look at the grapixx!" I was totally blown away by FFX but I didn't like the idea of an online FF.

I'm interested in whether or not they can match that demo. When he talked about the demo, he said if they had more time they could've made it look even better, but he's also said that developing a full game of that quality would take huge team and several years. Just due to all the FF's now being one of the best looking games when its released, that quality is what you'd expect from a game likely releasing in 2007. Going too far below it would mean that several games should top it.

That depends on a number of things: if the game is multiplatform or not, if it is then they will set the bar low so to make it easier to port it from one console to another.

It depends on the PS3 dev tools and how easy it is to exploit the system. So far many developers have said that it will take at least 3 years just to exploit Cell.

It depends on the budget. If its a super high budget game then they should be able to deliver kick ass graphics

and finally it depends on the capability of the programmer. The main programmer behind the FF7 tech demo is the same guy who was the lead programmer for FFX which looked alright.

At the end of the day, Final Fantasy is important to Square so I think they will exceed what they showed in the demo.

I fully expect final fantasy 13 to debut in the next year, despite 12 not being out stateside until late summer at the earliest. I Also fully expect that a new final fantasy game , be it a remake of 7 or FF13 will be out before the end of the year in 2007. With another one to follow by 2009 and again by 2011.

FF12 is an oddity becuase it's taken 2 times the development that any previous game in the series outside of FF7 has.

You do know that FFXIII is almost assuredly further along in development than CC since they hadn't even begun CC before KH2 came out in Dec.

With no bullshit or handhelds on it.

Just give us FFVII remixed for PS3. I don't know why the male characters have less and less clothes but if XII is any indication, XIII will have a shirtless main character.

We'll start including handhelds when the PSP port of FFVII is announced.

There shouldn't be a port of FF7 anywhere. It doesn't look even remotely good now, and that goes for its famous CG too.

I certainly don't want it to be multiplatform, because I don't want them to compromise it to fit on multiple platforms. Same goes for all of Squenix's games. I do think the 360 will eventually get a more advanced FFXI-type game. And yes, that is it.

:lol anyone remember this?

Square discusses Final Fantasy XII and XIII
10.30.02

Square president Yoichi Wada was recently interviewed by the Japanese video game magazine Famitsu and stated that Final Fantasy XII was slated for a 2003 release but did not give an exact date or any other details, such as whether the gaming platform would be the Gamecube or PS2.

Along with discussing FFXII, Wada also touched based on Final Fantasy XIII and said that the Square development team is in pre-production on the game now and is also working on a new MMORPG although it is unknown if it will be a seperate game or part of the Final Fantasy franchise

FFXIII Pre-production: 2002-2005
FFXIII Production: 2005 (early PS3 devs)-2007
FFXIII Post-Production and Release: 2007

Final Fantasy XIII Project: 2002-2007??? *que mystery music* :)

No, FFXIII will be finished much faster. Matsuno couldn't handle a big game like FF, his team screwed up and that's why XII was delayed.

My Arms Your Hearse said:
I was under the impression that Matsuno got food poisoning and became very ill?

Nobody knows what happened to him but my guess is that he cracked under too much pressure. FFXII clearly wasn't anywhere near being finished in 2003 and the top management officials and the top board officials probably started threatening him or something.

Matsuno made small time games like FFT and Vagrant Story, handing off a major project like Final Fantasy XII to his team probably wasn't a good idea.

Solid said:
Because kitase IMO is the best director when it comes to RPGs. I dont want another FF12 debacle where someone who cant handle the pressure is in charge of everything. I've loved Kitase's games so this is great news.

I don't think you understand Matsuno. That guy gets into the game he's making... I mean really, really fucking gets into it. I haven't read any interviews about him, nor any articles... with his games, you can just tell. I think he's more of a hands on director than anyone else at Square, and he doesn't half ass his job... just look at the level of detail you find in his games. I think it wasn't that he couldn't handle the job, I bet it was more like the job was sucking the living life force out of the guy... that or the stress from the higher ups. I hope he's ok, I really wish he could get back onto FFXII.

I doubt the real story about FFXII's production woes will ever come out- at least not from anyone still employed by Square-Enix.
Just release it and be done with it- which is probably how Square feels about the whole thing.

Has anything else been said about Matsuno? The implication seem to have been that whatever problems he had, for whatever reasons the worst was behind him, but nothing more seems to have been said about what he's currently up to (although I believe he still acts as an overall consultant to FXII).

It's been a while since the last new and original FF from Kitase. Really excited about this.
Even better will be, Naora and Nomura both on board.

what the hey???

Just give me XII THEN worry about XIII. Good gosh.

As has been pointing out, it's not unusual for Square to have multiple FFs announced at one time.

Plus it's entirely different teams doing FFXII and FFXIII, the development of one isn't affecting the development of the other.

He hasn't done anything since FFX-2 have he? And that was what, 2003? So theorectially he could have been working on this for a long time already.

I think he made FFVII: DoC :lol But then again maybe he was just directing the cutscenes in it. Even if he did head the game it doesn't really detract from his rpg record since it's almost a fact that Japanese developers aren't really good at making FPS (even if it is from 3rd person DoC is a wannabe FPS) games.

As far as I know, Kitase hasn't had a deep involvement in the full-process of a FF since FFX. Sure, he's acted as producer/exec.producer for FFX-2, KH1 and 2, and the FFVII Compilation projects, but nothing real hands on from him since FFX's production, from what I understand.

What I wanna know is if Nojima will return for scenario design of FFXIII. From what I recall, he went 'freelance/independent' not long after FFX- much like what Uematsu has done. I'd think Kitase could convince both to return for FFXIII, but you just never know.

Well he's the one who gets interviewed for all the DoC interviews and I know for sure that he's at least directed all the cutscenes in the game (was one of the selling points listed in Famitsu at some point).
