I think he meant "well worth it" regarding doing a journal and the length that he went to to create the character. Relax you guys.

wait, is the consensus he OD'd because he pushed himself too hard mentally while preparing for the role?

I didn't know his death was directly related...

the official story is that he OD'd by accident from self medicating with sleeping pills. Death was ruled accidental and not a suicide. Was no note and so forth either.

If they ever do a biopic about Heath, they know who to cast.

I loved Ledgers Jokers when I first saw him.

But now, after a few years, I am absolutely sure that was a performance that will be remembered for a very long time.

It's so weird when you think, 'That's the dude from Brokeback Mountain.'
And vice versa. His last biggest roles were so radically different.

As much as I enjoyed him playing the Joker, I will never, ever, EVER be able to scrub the awfulness that was A Knight's Tale from my mind. That's first and foremost what I will remember him for.

This is basically all I can think of with this film, but time has probably affected my memory http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEVJ_48YgTg

It's quite something how Heath sealed himself inside a sort of creative pressure cooker to develop the performance we see on screen. And what a performance. He suffered an untimely death, but he left the world with an iconic creation that effectively secured his immortality in cultural memory. Not a bad run, all things considered.

It's amazing what he did with the Joker, his interpretation of the character deserves all the praise it gets. He also did a great job with Brokeback Mountain.

Really liked Doctor Parnassus as well, and how everyone working on that handled such a shitty situation. I'm pretty sure Johnny Depp/Colin Farrell/Jude Law had all the money they normally would've gotten go to Heath's daughter, too.

Interesting. Seems from the clipping Alex de large form a clockwork orange seems to have been one of his main influences.

I've heard things like the fact he got SO into the role psychologically that it kind of had an effect on him somehow.

It was something he did quite regularly as his career progressed, aparently. Joker was the first role we saw where it came out and it REALLY came out.

His sister still goes to the school just around the corner from me, I believe they even had the funeral here.

Yeah I recently watched this interview with Aaron Eckhart (who played Harvey Dent) on Larry King Now in which he talks about working with Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight:

And here's the hospital scene he talks about (bad video quality): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfmkRi_tr9c

He died because he mixed sleeping pills and had an overdose not because the role had an effect on him. Some people still think that but there is no spectucular story behind it.

A lot of people forget he was working on The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus when he died, not The Dark Knight.

Strange how people WANT to think it was the Joker role that killed him, despite him already done with it and working on a new project.

It still amazes me that an actor got an academy award for a performance in a SUPERHERO MOVIE. Just think about that, a fucking superhero movie. That's how good Heath's performance was in TDK.

A lot of people who were close to him also said the roles of I'm not there and Dark Knight took a big tole on his health, especially Dark Knight. He couldn't sleep and couldn't stop thinking which most likely led to using more drugs.

Honestly i think Nolan and crew deserves more credit for the writing and atmosphere. He made that movie feel like a crime drama and not a comic book movie. Not discrediting Heath's performance because it was fantastic.

Call me cynical but part of me thinks he wouldn't have gotten it if he hadn't died.

I'm not saying he didn't deserve it, I'm saying that his death could have influenced enough people on the Oscar voting committee who might have not voted for him otherwise.

Well to me Nicholson as Joker was equally stunning performance so not a first time superhero movie had stunning acting.

True, I don't think Nolan got the credit he should have. He was snubbed even for a best director nomination wasn't he? Still though with the writing, costume, make up etc if you don't have an actor that nails it the character would not be the same, and Heath nailed it.

Superhero movies are getting better and better budgets and actors every day, there's no reason why they can't be Academy award nominees.
