Is anybody surprised? Microsoft are the ones who have to pull out all the stops and the kitchen sink to impress. Microsoft still has to prove themselves with first party even if mutli platform gos to them for the win. Sony still has the momentum going in. Microsoft is still looking for it's first generation win after all this time, but I believe it won't be this gen. Microsoft has to prove themselves this gen to take the next one. It will certainly be a great , fierce battle this gen though.

No doubt, but here's the thing......If things were so cut and dry and Series X is virtually decimating the PS5, why is there so much defense everywhere from XBOX fans and MS, which in this case is an MS exclusive dev...…..I guess there must be something in these PS waters huh!

I dont get it. I am a Sony pony and will never consider xbox. That said its pretty clear to a novice like me that the xsex is more powerful than ps5.

Consumers (not brand loyal) broadly consider 3 things when making a decision.

1 - price

2 - power

3 - exclusives

Ms has #1 this gen and sony has #3 going to come down to a price war to non brand loyal consumers

To be honest this is what made me buy PS4 Pro over Xbox One X, even despite me having the cash for One X. It came down to GAMES.
The games i liked more on PS4. Not saying Xbox was bad. Forza was the one game that made me consider One X but that was the only really good game. It was a choice of Forza over God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo Sport and a few others.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Xbox has this upcoming generation. I want to have that headache again when I go shop for my next gen console but this time i want the playing field to be even. I want to be spoilt by choice which is why i'm almost 100percent certain that both MS and Sony will absolutely deliver and i will eventually get both Series X and PS5.
Agreed completely.

PS5 is a day 1 for me.

XB Series X can only get me buying it for any title that actually looks good, but if they are just going to spend the next 2 years just porting XONE games, I might as well wait and see.

No matter how many biased articles or Devs saying how good XsX is and how bad PS5, even though the difference in TFlops is only 20%, XsX will never ever sell more than PS5.

XsX as was it's predecessors will not have any exclusive games that will make you say damn i want to play this game!
Hate to break it to you, but I literally own a GameCube only because of Metroid Prime 1/2, a PS4 because of the Kingdom Hearts Collection, a Xbox 360 because of Halo and a Xbox One because of Halo.

Isn't this the same forum that was convinced Xbox One X cant hit 4K and that the 1.8 teraflop difference between Pro and X wont make for a huge difference in resolution...but now a near 2 TF advantage again is somehow again not going to make a difference?
The One X is an interesting case in point:

You can look to the TF advantage but the fact is the entire system CPU, GPU, memory etc is clocked much higher than the Pro.
The gap between PS5 and SX is way narrower relatively speaking, which should put into context how relatively close the final results should be on those platforms. One X is what you get when you're talking about a 40% differential in overall TF count, and around 25% clock increase on the cpu side.

Then there's the memory arrangement which is really the Pro's achilles heel with it being somewhat gimped in order to maintain compatibility compared to the fairly radical revamp on the One X's side. On the upside Sony didn't make a costing misstep like including additional ram, because in all fairness given how rarely that has been used, it really was pretty much a waste on the BOM.

Bottom line though is that for all those advantages in sales terms it didn't shift the needle much at all, and although multi-plats did in some cases show good levels of improvement in terms of resolution that's about all can be said about it. Sony's first party stuff, especially the titles with good quality CBD implementations were easily on par, or better visually.

In short, yeah One X was an admirable improvement.. but really, so fucking what?

I'm not saying that to be dismissive or rude, just to point out that apart from the bragging rights, how little value there actually is from being "the most powerful console!"

Canada Eh
@dark10x came back recently and made the stupid mistake of entering the PS5 Safe Space. He got dog-piled by the Sony folks for the egregious sin of DF reporting on the actual PS5 GPU aka the GitHub leak. I'm pretty sure that truly was the last will see John around here, he was treated very badly and he stated he wouldn't be back.

Makes me sad that a small group of people here who get over wrought about their favorite console can run off an industry professional like John, while sniffing fake insider farts. I really liked John & enjoyed his contributions here.
Selfishly, I hope he reconsiders. But maybe not posting here because certain segments of our community can't grow up and act their age is what's best for his sanity.

As a predominantly PC gamer, ive seen it all and for the most part, the prettiest games from console to PC tend to be 99% mediocre theme park experiences that are rarely worth a replay let alone the 9/10s they get.

Im happy with 1440p, 60fps (or that proper frame paced 30fps) and some decent AA. What I want m,ore than pretty graphics is some advancement in AI and smaller open world games that focus on content rather than square kms.

Just get the Xbox at launch and a PS5 mid generation when it’s cheaper. By that time it will have built up a few exclusives too:messenger_ok:
This. Get that amazing jump in power and wait for Sony to release great exclusives down the line.

Well duh, the numbers are out there and are indisputable.
36 CU vs 52 CU. The power contest is already over.

But power isn't everything.
Games sell consoles, and MS has a lot to prove with its exclusives.
they do. With that said, getting amazing BC, and the best version of 3rd party games is going to be plenty for me.

I’m also still a massive Halo fan and MCC provides so much entertainment. Matter of fact, Xbox has the best MP games imo.

Sony fans tend to ruin everything in the gaming community.
Nah, Sony fans are fine and I like a lot of them and enjoy discussing gaming with them. It would be really boring without them here. Super aggressive and obnoxious fanboys/girls from team blue AND team green ruin everything in the gaming community. Let us not forget winners like TimDog or Meirl.

I always see people ragging on Nintendo fans but I don't ever see them behaving like the worst Xbox & Sony fanthings.

Best mp games? Definitely in your opinion bcus halo and Gears at this point is stale asf lol I'll play Uncharted 4 online before I touch any of those again not to mention uc4 online is so much more fun and less static than Gears mp. The vibe right now is modern warfare anyway a multiplat game.

But yeah it's all opinions 😏Xbox just isn't tht mp go to system anymore though.

I've seen people try to talk about; Sound, Non Propietary Storage, Lots of Custom Hardware. High Clock Rates too......I guess people talk about the SSD because is the biggest disparity between the two consoles speedwise, and moreso that devs are the ones bringing it up and propping it up...…...They are genuinely excited by it's prospects, some devs are excited by the Tempest Engine, I've seen some stoked about the geometry engine......I guess some will be stoked about the controller when it shows and the new VR unit......Tbh, the devs are excited, so it bodes well for the games we will get this gen on the hardware they are most excited for...

I dont know, but I've observed that the devs excited for PS5 are really humble and are giddy about the possibilities of the hardware, they never really mention Series X, just their excitement to what Cerny showed....Yet, the guys saying they are releasing 4K 120Hz games on Series X or cant understand the PS5 design are always so bitter......Look at the Grannel guy responding to Tim Dog calling people fanboys, that's a different emotion from the devs excited about PS5....

Former Sony Dev: PS5 and Xbox Series X Power Difference Is Quite Shocking, Several Developers Say

From Wccftech:

In comes a new tweet from a former PlayStation developer, who says to have heard from several developers that Microsoft’s console is the superior console and that the power difference between the Xbox Series X and PS5 is quite shocking. These developers have also said, however, that this doesn’t mean the PS5 won’t be getting great games.

“I’ve chatted to a few devs and they have confirmed the power difference is quite staggering”, ex-Sony developer Chris Grannell wrote. However they have said it doesn’t mean you can’t make good games on the PS5. These fanboys clearly don’t care about that and are massively rattled.”

In an earlier tweet, Grannell also commented on a recent ‘analysis’ from an outlet that claimed that the PS5 will actually end up with more raw computing power due to it removing the audio workload from the CPU and GPU. Instead of going by an analysis, Grannell replied that he has heard differently from the actual developers working on the console.

Not surprised. We'll be seeing more of this closer to launch.

Totally agreed. Let’s separate the zealots from the actual fans, and shame them accordingly.

That said, I don’t know, some Nintendo fans can be pretty bad too. They don’t really heavily console war, but can be obnoxious in other ways.

Not really a surprise. Xbox Series X is simply far more powerful overall and that's with PS5 being overclocked. Subtract that and it's an even bigger slaughter. With that said though, 9.2TF is way more than enough power for Sony's first party internal studios and in the end, both consoles are going to be amazing and blow away PS4/XB1.

Well the difference is way less than previous console released. So was previous console difference even more staggering ? I don't think so. Twitter is the best way to get attention though

XSX has many other aspects to it that can make it much more powerful than just the simple TF difference, that’s the point. It might only be about 20% TF difference in paper but could be way bigger than that in actuality.

Ray tracing appears to be substantially better than PS5, and cheaper to use as well.

Meh dont care about Xbox

PC covers all i need from Xbox
Unless you've got an 8 core Zen 2 processor with at least an RTX 2080, the Xbox has your PC system beat. I wouldn't be surprised if we get the biggest bump in minimum system requirements in quite a while with the next console generation. It is highly likely more convenient to buy a console than a PC in the upcoming year or two, considering the power of these systems. And you'll pay at least half of an equivalent performing PC. It could easily become a situation where the Xbox covers all the PC needs rather than the other way around. That's what made the X360 so successful too.

With RT intensive games I expect a Pro to X type of difference. I think the Pro and X comparisons would be spot on. Mind you there are quite a few titles that have better framerate on the Pro.

The PS1 classic.
shutting down servers too early.
No PS1 BC.
Making me rebuy PS2 classics.
their treatment of Socom.

I started off the gen swearing off MS, but Sony has convinced me they will do the bare minimum. Don’t get me wrong, they have some great exclusives, but I no longer feel the urge to play every single player campaign that comes out.

Not really. Xbox Series X IS MORE POWERFUL. It's not an opinion. It's a fact. And that's with PS5 being overclocked or boosted or whatever bullshit term Cerny and Sony wants to call it to make it look better.

Simply, im a PS4 fanboy just like I was an Xbox 360 fanboy but im not a fanboy of either Sony or Microsoft. Every gen, I simply go with the best overall console itself and the other console will be for exclusives only. For whatever reason, Sony fanboys can't handle that the competition has the better overall console but were happy as fuck 7 years ago. Just like the Xbox fanboys "spun" all the shit from 7 years ago, PlayStation fanboys are doing the exact same shit now.

The funny part is that neither company gives a fuck about console wars and just want everyone's money mine included. All their profits isn't going in my pocket or anyone else on this forum pocket for that matter.

Even better is that Sony has the far better exclusives and as of now, it's not even close but Sony fanboys have to try to prop up the console because they just can't handle being second best in which is the best overall console.

Minecraft was running at 1080P with the ray traced demo they have shown. In fact Gears gfx was also showing diminishing return I thought.

We know that Microsoft is going to release all their games on all console for some years. Cross gen games apart from resolution and some settings is not going to be huge upgrade, I am afraid. I do not think there is going to be much difference between PS5 and Xbox

well, what games now? Sony’s launch lineups are not really the best. Anyone remember the PS4 launch lineup?
Im sure that there are going to be good exclusives on ps5... but it will take YEARS!
So far we know about GODFALL... and that’s to me not a reason to buy a ps5...
For Xbox series X we know about halo infinite which IS a reason for many halo fans.

so, I would like to know, what PS5 GAMES are you going to buy AT LAUNCH?

I’ll believe it when I see the significant visual and performance discrepancy in the games. Xbox One X specifications are noticeably better than the PS4 Pro, yet the graphics are very comparable in most cases. If XSX performance and visuals are considerably better, then maybe we will have some trouble. We’ll see.

What's interesting about this statement (even if it's a bit exaggerated) is that we already know that it's

GPU: (12.155TF 52 CU's) vs (10.28TF 36 CU's variable frequency)
CPU: (3.8Ghz/3.6GHz SMT) vs (3.5GHz variable frequency and no mention of SMT)

So it seems to me that this "variable frequency" for both CPU and GPU might in practice be a bigger differentiator than what we actually see on paper. Very rarely will both CPU and GPU hit their peak clocks concurrently. If ever at all. There's going to be a balancing act between the two.

Can you play Halo 5, Forza 5 on PC? No.
Can you play X360 exclusives like Lost Odyssey, Gears 2/3 on PC? No.

Can you play Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, The Witcher, on Xbox? Yes.

It's all a matter of perspective, and your game priorities. If you want your PC that's fine. But the XSX will offer the better value for the majority of people out there. The hardcore PC gamers will obviously never budge. That doesn't mean that the XSX is not great value. If you have a PC that can already handle everything, it's understandable to not get an Xbox. But if you have anything less than an RTX 2080, the XSX is a viable option.

Yeah no if PS4 and XBO power difference didn't produce "a staggering" difference then the chances to happen now with even less gap is null.

Power difference is staggering? Gross exaggeration. Not sure if it's the right analogy, if the series x is top of the line dodge challenger, then the PS5 is a Nissan GT. Both are powerful and both are built with different intentions to get to the final destination, which is powering game creators and giving them the freedom, reduce time spent on memory management and spend more time on creating immersive worlds. People just latch on to the 12Tf and have this misinformed misguided be all and end all thing. Yes the Series X without a doubt has more raw GPU performance when compared with PS5. But the performance delta next gen might not be as much as how it was the PS4/Xbox One gen started in 2013. Then comes exclusives games, if a mere 1.84 TF GCN machine such as PS4 could bring out games like God of War, Spider-Man, BloodBorne, Uncharted 4, NioH, Death Stranding, Uncharted Lost Legacy, Spider-Man, Days Gone, Order 1886, Horizon Zero Dawn, then you're all not ready for what a 10.28 TF RDNA2 PS5 will deliver.

In the end, the games will do the talking and SIE WWS have been delivering on that front since time immemorial. Meanwhile Microsoft has a lot of potential with the newly acquired studios to create newer experiences. Also the price, another crucial factor to get mass adoption rate at the start of a new gen. Sony knows that the crucial piece to the puzzle is pricing. Anyways in short we are in for a true next generation leap in gaming thanks to Xbox Series X and PS5.

An ex-guerrilla games developer or NX gamer. Hmmmm, who should we trust here. Ah, the random Youtuber thats right.
Game Designers...

"Video game designers often work as part of a team to create video games. They come up with the games' concepts, characters, setting, story, and game play. Designers must work with artists and programmers to create the scripting language and artistic vision for a game."

"While some employers require a bachelor's degree in video game design or computer science, a high school diploma is the minimum requirement."

I just don’t understand this equation. There was only 0.4tf difference between XO and PS4 and it always ended up toward PS4’s favor. We have seen a lot of 1080p vs 900p even 720p. Even some games 60fps vs 30fps like TR. This all happened with a tiny 0.4 difference. How can we ignore at least 1.8tf (if PS5 works at it’s peak performance all the time) difference now?

I don’t care percent numbers,I care actual numbers. There is a power difference,a whole PS4 even more than it between XSX and PS5.

Percent is all that matters when you are dealing with scale. Unless you are simply looking to fuel your own personal fanboyism, then sure — look at the raw numbers and make any physical comparison that helps you sleep at night; be it PS4s, duct taped game cubes or frontier style covered wagon wheels.

Game Designers...

"Video game designers often work as part of a team to create video games. They come up with the games' concepts, characters, setting, story, and game play. Designers must work with artists and programmers to create the scripting language and artistic vision for a game."

"While some employers require a bachelor's degree in video game design or computer science, a high school diploma is the minimum requirement."

he worked with a lot of Sony devs, he even says he chatted with other devs... he has friends, you know

This has nothing to do with fanboyism. I am talking about math and logic.
