PC/XB1/PS4. Running on UE4.

edit regarding the devs:
Okay so Illfonic appears to be the developer who made the FPS module for Star Citizen and then got jettisoned off as they took the updates internal, and it looks like the other developer is "gun." of Breach & Clear fame.

I'm not entirely clear on who is doing what, but this seems to be a bizarre mishmash on top of the budgeting setup and missing information.

KS info:

What is Friday the 13th: The Game?

Friday the 13th: The Game is a third-person, asymmetrical multiplayer title where one player controls Jason Voorhees while the remaining seven control camp counselors trying to survive the night. That's right...1v7 multiplayer set in the semi-open world of Camp Crystal Lake! It's a classic horror fan's dream, no shaky cam, no found footage. We want you to know we're revitalizing the golden era of slashers, and putting you at the controls of each horrific, blood-splattered moment.

Friday the 13th is the definition of horror to the millions of fans around the world. A masked killer going after the young and vulnerable; it grabs our attention, it frightens us, and yet we all come back for more. Friday the 13th: The Game will give you the feeling of horror and dread that you expect from Jason Voorhees. This will be the ultimate asymmetrical horror experience unlike anything you’ve seen - a title we’re proud to introduce that is worthy of the name ‘Friday the 13th’.

What happened to Summer Camp?

We were already building Slasher Vol.1: Summer Camp, and we've been creating and testing an internal prototype for some time now. You may recall that we announced Summer Camp last Fall via IGN. Soon after, Sean Cunningham personally reached out to us behind the scenes. That’s when things got awesome.
Jason's watching you!
Jason's watching you!

Sean came to us in early 2015, but we quickly discovered these weren’t the normal business conversations you would have when you try to secure a license as important as Friday the 13th. It was totally different. It was a conversation built on mutual admiration and respect for what each had created. Sean immediately noticed the passion we had for Friday the 13th, and after several incredible meetings over the next few months, we decided to upgrade our plans for Summer Camp and embrace the Friday the 13th video game license. After several incredible meetings over the next few months, Sean surprised us by offering the Friday the 13th video game license. It was literally a dream come true for a group of lifelong fans. He knew he could trust us with the most coveted horror IP ever, and we plan to make good on that promise to both him and you, the millions of loyal Friday the 13th fans around the world.

Singleplayer

That really depends on where this Kickstarter campaign takes us. Summer Camp was originally conceived as a multiplayer title only, and thus was budgeted as such. It was only after taking on Friday the 13th that we really started to dream up plans to bring Jason to life in ways that everyone has wanted to experience (but no one has been able to create to date).

To that end, the proposed single player portion will give you the Jason experience you’ve never had; direct through his eyes. We’ll be offering several ‘scenarios’ based off classic movie scenes from the franchise as you stalk and kill each and every counselor from a first person perspective. Not to leave the counselors out, we’ll be adding several counselor scenarios where you’ll have to confront your fears and take on Jason directly, especially in compromising situations! We are not going for anything less than a Mature Rating on this; the franchise deserves it! These scenarios might also make their way to VR, and would bring an entirely new perspective to the slasher genre!

Not that interested in this then.

Will back on November 13th. Bwuahaha
Makes Sense.

Hope we dont have another Evolve on our hands.

Please make the single player in the same vein as the Hitman series and you get rewarded for the best and creative kills. That's all I want!

isnt this just the same premise as that slasher movie game kickstarter that got caught up in legal trouble a while back.

From Sessler's Twitter, it sounds like this *is* that game, but they managed to acquire the F13 license.

EDIT: I was totally wrong on this one. This is the evolution of Summer Camp rather than The Last Year.

Seems like a weird choice to go third-person? I think the premise is awesome though. The main objective for the camp counselors has to be bang each other and smoke a lot of weed before being killed. 10/10.

I can't see this hitting the goal.

  • Massive goal for a niche audience.
  • Less than 10 seconds of "gameplay".
  • Game revealed a year ago then reborn screams red flags.
  • Until Dawn just came out, and while not the same game type, likely scratched some itches.
  • Multiplayer-only games thrive on the community, and this won't have one without a massive marketing push (which it likely won't have).
Dunno. Good luck to them, but disappointed as multiplayer-only games are super scary and hard to get excited for.

Yes, I know they have a "single player", but the fact that they say it's budgeted for multiplayer only and will include scenarios likely means it'll have little missions and not really a campaign. It's a small portion of the entire campaign page. At least, that's how I interpret it.

Sounds almost exactly like Evolve, and we know how much fun that was. That is, fun for a match or two before I dropped it forever.

They actually name-dropped Evolve, which seems like a weird choice since it wasn't super well received, but none of Evolve's problems were with the basic game premise, just in it's execution and horrible DLC scheme.

Ugh, Kickstarter. Also surprised they got the license, since Friday the 13th is still corporately owned. Good luck to them though!

As I said in the other thread, Pass. I do hope it makes the goal though, I like Adam. But this doesn't interest me.

Sorry, but if a publisher isn't even willing to pony up $700K for a licensed property like this, I've really got a feeling what they have so far isn't very strong.

Yup I backed for 50. Hopefully this one gets funded. So many possible horror games like this have failed to get funding.

Kane Hodder?

Sean Cunningham?

Tom Savini?

Harry Manfredini?

Damn they're pulling out the stops. Still reluctant to back without gameplay footage, even as a fan of the movies.

I'd argue its basic premise is flawed but I thought after L4D maybe Turtle Rock could've proved me wrong. Execution and DLC were just cherries on the turd sundae.

Sounds cool. I love Friday the 13th so I backed it.

They have made the absolutely CRITICAL mistake of revealing stretch goal tiers too early.

I backed Last Year 5v1, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lastyear/last-year-5-vs-1-multiplayer-survival-horror which was taken down for copyright claim because of Friday the 13th. It came back up too and it's now in development. That happened after it ended iirc. No one was refunded during that time either because it was a copyright claim KS had to take care of.

I like the idea of this a lot. I just hope for some reason it has bots, but I'd be okay if it didn't. It looks great. I have to wonder how many maps are they going to have.
