The Furries are among you.

Don't panic. A furry is a fan or enthusiast of anthropomorphic (human-like) creatures. Make it walk, make it talk, and furries will be there.

"Funny animals" are closely associated with comic strips and cartoons. There is no shortage of furries who are into those. Nearly anything else counts too: live action movies and TV, written fiction, art, table-top RPGs featuring playable beasties, and just about every MMORPG in which a pair of animal ears may be glued onto your toon during character creation.

The furry fandom is different from a lot of genre clubs. Based on a general idea without any specific media format or franchise as a tentpole, furry is mostly built from the ground up. It is the definition of chaos. If one takes a moment to talk to a furry fan, their individual motivations are almost unique. There is great emphasis on fan participation. Furries make a lot of content - at times it all seems like an arts and crafts fair devoted to curiously buff wolves. Taking a lead from their friends in the science fiction, fantasy, and anime communities, furry fans build costumes -- some of the most elaborately-crafted you'll find, in fact. Contrary to internet rumors however, none of it is as serious as you might think.

Furries freak a lot of people out, and that's okay. What furries are into isn't common. The furry subculture tends to sweep up a colorful variety of odd people. Most adults no longer think about things like funny animals, and may not see why anyone would. The media loves furries - as long as they're the most outrageous furry in the room. Furries tend to be rather frank about having kinks. Many share a quality common to geeks and nerds everywhere: not knowing when to shut up about their favorite thing, especially to non-fans.

Of course, none of that means there's anything wrong with being a furry fan.

Not everyone who likes anthro things will call themselves a furry, and that's okay too. Furry fandom represents a particular subculture, but it's a subset of anthropomorphism, not the other way around. Fox McCloud isn't a talking animal because he's a furry, furries like him because he's a talking animal. Thanks to the Regular Show, everyone has now been a talking animal for 15 minutes.

This is all probably pretty heavy for something so silly. People and groups will always be labeled, FurryGAF's container may as well be clearly and accurately marked.

P.S. Rule 34? Hot gay wolf sex? Digimon porn? Sonic? Google is right this way. Go on, find what you need. The furries won't be offended. Just don’t post it in here. :)

This month I've decided on a lesser known artist, so I recommend commissioning them and following them on various services!

Kashoune is a furry and devil boy artist that has a semi realistic style with thin lines and sketch-line detail. Often they draw with flat colors and simple yet strong shadows which is a bit like comic books. Really cute stuff.

last month's AotM

As always, if you have any suggestions for next month, drop me a PM.

Being a Furry means for me to talk and have fun with people who share the same interests like I have. Furries are the kindest people on earth and it always makes me happy to talk with them!
Hmm I suppose I'd say "Being a Furry represents an appreciation of anthropomorphism in any of its various forms. It also means you're a super cool person."
In addition to what was stated above, I enjoy the creativity of the community when it comes to the art. It's great to see the many different visions and ideas when it comes to anthropomorphizing different creatures.
I honestly find it annoying that "furry" is being referred to the anthropomorphic characters rather than "anthro". And for me, furry is just enjoying anthro art.
I just like being a weirdo bunny
It means a comfortable, fuzzy place, filled with interesting people and endless pictures -

And weirdo bunnies :B
Bluntly, I've always wanted to be an animal. It's something I regard as central to my identity. (I'm tempted to call this "totemism" but I don't know whether that's really accurate.) Anyway, if I say to somebody "I'm a furry," that's what I'm referring to. I like anthropomorphic art too, though, obviously.
Being a furry means appreciating anthropomorphic artwork and other creative endeavours that focus on the expression of an animalistic spirit or form, and can go as far as personally identifying with these creations and characters.

Cuz animals are super cool!
Being "furry," to me, means having an interest in anthropomorphic animals. This can range from just liking furry art (normal or porn), to actually dressing up in fursuits, and everywhere in between. It's not just about sex (it doesn't HAVE to be sexual at all), and you don't need to have a fursona or a fursuit to be a furry.
Being a furry means enjoying the vast amounts of anthro art along with all the other aspects of the word.
If anyone else would like to throw their answer to the question in here, let us know!

Hey FurryGAF! Come on down and follow our official tumblr! It has a bigger variety of art than this topic, I assure you. If you want to help and add some images to it you can email them to this address: (quote to reveal), send me a message to become a contributor, or simply just sit off to the side over there.

Fursuits are animal costumes associated with the furry fandom. They range from simple tails and ears to full costumes cooled by battery-powered fans. Similar to mascot suits, they allow the wearer to adopt another personality while in costume. Owners (also known as fursuiters) can spend less than one-hundred to many thousands of dollars on one fursuit, depending on the complexity of the design and on the materials used. These items are frequently sold at conventions, or online by either commission or auction. Many furry fans make their own using online tutorials and/or advice from newsgroups.

The standard fursuit is a full body costume that consists of a head, fore paws, hind paws and a body with an attached tail; in some cases, the tail is connected via a belt to the wearer and hangs out through a hole in the back of the body. Many suits include special padding or under suits to give the character its desired shape

Some furries enjoy wearing their suits for parades, exhibitions, or conventions. Oftentimes, these are of a personal character who they are expressing as a form of role play. The fursuiter may consider themselves to be expressing who they really are. These fursuiters may also wear their suits to small, informal meetings among furry fans in their area. Some may get permission to perform in or outside of a shop or event, while others may simply wear a suit in a major area, such as a mall. However, some public areas have no-mask laws, so individuals seeking to wear their fursuit in large, public places should check first if it's allowed before performing at that location.

Again, a million million thanks to everyone who helped with the OP!

And a special and personal thanks to corrupted. Without him this community would haven't gotten restarted in the big way it has and I'm sure we'll see it grow a lot in the future.

This thread should be a whole lot of fun. I hope everyone has a blast! :)

I just want me some bara representation because there's a lack of representation. Apparently someone said that "OP shouldn't be filled with bara" but that doesn't mean little to none!

Oh and I always link sfw. It's not like you can view nsfw without account on pixiv or FA anyway.

I'll see if I can do some later... but problem is that they're all pixiv-only.

Oh, that's a fantastic feed :D

still wondering what to do to get the neighbors I want in ACNL... luckily, one of my residents is moving out soon, so there's hope on that front.

No thread subtitle? Did we reach a consensus? I mean.. I wanted a serious one but I believe most people wanted a pun or something witty there. You can email a mod and ask them to put one later if you want to, Chuck.

New OT? *subscribes*

I may be missing it, but names and maybe links to some of the artists are appreciated it. >_> Or at least PM them to me, espcially those written in Japanese.

I can't wait! It should be just what the fans want.

Also Sly would be better as a cartoon! Imagine those Sly 4 cutscenes turned into an episodic show!

Added! And pivix only or japanese character names should be fine too.

It would be epic, who would voice Carmelita?
A new voice actress just to be funny. :p

I... I actually don't like the movie being shown. It looks... dull. Then again I lost interest in the RnC franchise post PS2. Tools of Destruction was blaaaaand.

And I'll see to it that I'll make some for pixiv :3
