Arthur Gies said:The core of a great person shooter is present in Fuse. The team-based insanity offers a unique take on the genre, and Insomniac's reputation for inventive weapons and creative combat helps too. But Fuse only comes together with three or four players, and even then, the late game combat design and boring-to-fight enemies stand in its way.

Mitch Dyer said:This is a loud, chaotic, and fun bit of extraordinary violence in an otherwise lighthearted world, but it rarely achieves the greatness it strives for. If you can overlook the tonal inconsistencies, Fuses shallow, familiar shooting can thrive. Success comes when the unacceptable teammate A.I. is replaced by a group of friends unleashing the awesome power of their alien-powered weaponry. Fuse is an all-or-nothing experience, though. Bring a full crew or dont waste your time.

Dan Ryckert said:I left Fuse with several frustrations sticking in my head. I was bothered by the cutscene situation, the basic AI (both friendly and enemy), a couple of glitches that forced restarts, and the dramatic change in fun factor when playing solo. That said, I cant deny that I spent a lot of time laughing while playing with three others. If chaotic, over-the-top shootouts are your thing, theres plenty to like in Fuse amongst the frustrations. Just be sure to bring some friends along for the ride.

Quick Look: Fuse
Brad Shoemaker said:Fuse's gameplay has some good ideas, but they don't carry enough weight in what's otherwise a shooter campaign the like of which you've almost certainly seen before. And it's hard not to think back to the exciting first trailer from two years ago, since many of the shipping game's most outlandish aspects would have been more at home in that highly stylized, wisecracking version that never got made. Fighting in an undersea base and a space station? An exotic Asian assassin who turns out to be someone's ex-girlfriend? A sneering Russian who shoots himself up with Fuse and grows 10 stories tall? It feels like the off-the-wall good ideas Insomniac had for that sillier game have survived, but those ideas are a bit uncomfortably at odds with the serious look and tone of the game as it is now. Fuse plays pretty well, but with smoother execution and a more cohesive identity, it would have an easier time standing out in a genre that, as this generation of consoles comes to a close, is wearing out its welcome more and more.

Chris Waters said:Still, the challenge of Echelon is a welcome one for folks looking to flex their skills beyond the bounds of the campaign, and if you've got some willing allies, you can definitely have a good time. And that's pretty much true for the whole game. Fuse is calibrated for people to play together, designed in such a way as to be merely serviceable for solo players, but solid fun for groups of gung-ho mercs.

Jim Sterling said:Whether it's true or not, Fuse does feel every bit like another victim of the heavily focus-tested, leader following, perpetually terrified mainstream game industry. It's every cloying and desperate element of the retail console market, brought together -- fused, if you will -- to create a factory standard example of a game that tries to be everything the hypothetical mainstream consumer drools over, and ends up as nothing remarkable.
That's Fuse in a nutshell.
It's nothing.

David Hinkle said:Fuse's basic mechanics are functional, even interesting, but they're hamstrung by poor AI (on both sides) and boring encounters. Friends make things better, but even then this locomotive doesn't take long to run out of steam. Fuse is satisfactory at best and frustrating at worst, and a bare-bones shooter without any personality or flair.

Ray Carsillo said:Fuse has a fantastic foundation. The game looks and sounds great, while the RPG systems and frantic, arcade-like gameplay mechanics really pull you into the experience when playing with buddies. But I know how hard it is to get a crew of guys together to do most anything nowadaysnever mind play games. Keeping that and the lackluster story in mind, Fuse makes a strong showing but falls short of being an elite shooter.

Steve Hannley said:It may not have the over-the-top humor of Ratchet & Clank or the dark, serious sci-fi story of Resistance, but Fuse is a fine addition to Insomniacs legacy that puts focus on a balanced co-op experience like many shooters dont. There may be a few spots where combat feels repetitive and the stealth elements are half-baked, but the sheer audacity on display here deserves commendation. This isnt a generic military shooter, but a game that takes you to the ocean floor and into outer space as you face off against larger than life enemies (sometimes literally) with some of the most creative weapons in any shooter grounded in a shred of reality. In case none of this is getting through, just take one thing away from this review: Fuse is gre

Paul Goodman said:Bottom Line: Some of Fuse's flaws, like the grindy boss fights and a storyline that takes itself a little too seriously at times, can harm the experience, but it's a well built third-person shooter that's fun to play solo or on a team.
Recommendation: Fuse is a fun action game that old and new fans of third-person shooters will enjoy, but it's not free of a few speed bumps that hurt the overall experience.

Eduardo Moutinho said:Like I said, Fuse is fun. Ill even say its really fun. Todays big-budget-shooter culture tends to suppress uniqueness in favor of its-what-the-people-want convention. And in this maelstrom, many publishers have forgotten that we all play video games to have a good time. Even though nefarious forces have noticeably tainted other parts of the title, Fuses spirit shines through its unabashedly likable gameplay.
Making a group of enemies disappear in a chain of miniature black holes with your Warp Rifle is ridiculous. More important, its ridiculously entertaining.
