G.A.M.E 5.0 Planning Thread - Summer G.A.M.E.s

Just chiming in to congratulate btk for his work on G.4.0 -- listening to Highs & Lows right now. Good chiptune work and the (auto-tuned?) vocals are surprisingly good!

/love-in.

I'm only on my first listen through 4.0, so I'll get to the rest of you buggers in a minute. Great work so far, everyone. Can't wait for 5.0!

EDIT: On Garcia's stuff right now. "To The Last Boss!" is fucking awesome so far!

Yeah, G4 was a lot of fun. I went for more of a lo-fi instead of a chiptune, but it was still a lot of fun producing it and listening to everyone else's work.

As for G5, I'm still in the process of re-working my tune. Hopefully I'll have something I'm (more) happy with by the end of the week. Like I said, I'm mostly re-arranging it and chopping/splicing it up.

Alright, so I havnt been on any project since the Movie theme GAME album, just been messing around today, saw this thread, thought my song might qualify, right now im just going to upload a section, nothing too major, just a taste, if its worthy ill continue. Feedback would be great.

*ahem* : (

But yeah, I hope its not too late to get this in, not sure how long it will take to finish it though with my schedule and all.

Agent, do you have a Soundcloud? Ever since that dropped I'm hard-pressed to download a track just to hear it. :( I'd much rather hop over to SC and stream it.

still collecting subs from peeps so keep em coming. i'll start putting things together over the weekend with a first pass for y'all to listen to on monday

no worries, i'm on it.

looks like this is gonna be a thin release? should we extend the submission until the end of the month (release on the 4th of july)?

i got another song or two i could submit, but i figured two per person was a good limit?

either way, July 4th seems like a good release date. itll give peeps more time. also, if you need someone to arrange the tracks once you got em all, ill give it a shot.

Yeah, I think the 4th is a great release date.

Like I said, I'm still working on my track. Hopefully by the end of this week! Hell, I might even be able to finish another track by the 4th.

Monchi, how much time will you need to master everything? If we release on the 4th, when would you like to have all the tracks by?

I unfortunately have been way too busy these past weeks and months to do anything much. I'm leaving for France next week for 3 weeks so I'll probably miss the launch. Anyways, I have 2 tracks. I tried to fix Strollin' crackling as much as I could but it's still a bit there. As for Electronic City I simply couldn't finish it, but I'm still happy with it the way it is now.

Sending PM in a couple minutes.

Hows Cubase 5 running for you?

Nothing but trouble here, so i'm waiting for Windows 7 (and new hardware components) before i start fidlin with it again.
Cubase got better with the .1 update, but if you're using bridge plug-ins, forget about it. Trying to use Halion Symphonic Orchestra and it is a pussy once you get past 8 channels. Don't have a good bass instrument because Trilogy's bridge doesn't work well in Cubase. It has historically worked better in Windows, so you might be better off. I still think Cubase is the best composing DAW, so I have no choice but to stick with it.

Let me know your problems, maybe I can help.

ok, more software instrument goodness...iphone style

this is a steal at 99 cents (also available as VST)
..and this shit is hard as hell to use :D

My contribution for number 5.
Nothing realy spectaculair, but i'm happy with it considering the circumstances.
And i had fun making this, wich is most important, right?

Albino_Samurai - Fridgenstein

The first thing that came to mind when i thought of summer is how our old fridge use to act like it was possessed when it got realy hot. Strange noises, indicator lights changing constantly.... so there you go... Fridgenstein.

Will send you the WAV format a.s.a.p Monchi.

I reckon it's hardware related. Bu to be honest i don't have clue what the problem even is.
Every time i start up C5 i have to re-adjust the ASIO driver, my own made "default program" is showing inactive channels while everything is connected (XV2020, R3, Blofeld, MX400 on USB, 828MKII on FireWire)
When i manualy do adjust these settings in the Device manager, and re-save the "default file" so it keeps those settings. but nope.... :-(

I'll get it working eventualy though. Have people working on the issue as i type!

That's good. Steinberg can be difficult. Nice HW. I love Waldorf. I'm a PPG fan.

As for the music, I'm with Soultron. Good stuff. It's got that live feel that I like.

Alright well I'm leaving soon, so hopefully everything goes well with the launch. Don't forget to create a thread with an exciting title that will make people want to click it. :P Some of the songs I've heard so far are really interesting, but I want to wait for the full album to check them all out.

On an unrelated note, I made a sort of dungeon music inspired by the Zelda series. It's a project I'm starting for fun where I'll try to create 8 different dungeon themes. I'm about to post it on my youtube account, but I figured I'd get some nice feedback from people who know about making music here: http://soundcloud.com/supradarky/dungeon-1-fallen-temple

Sountrack pro is having "issues" again...how lovely :)

just a reminder, double check your file render options and make sure loop or acidized loop isn't checked off. We don't want to slow down or speed up your music :D

Hmm I think I rendered them right. I sent them to you via PM so you could verify. If there's a big problem with my tracks somehow, take the mp3s from my Soundcloud account. It will be better than nothing. :P

I don't mean to be rude but I really didn't enjoy this piece. I don't like how repetitious it is, it doesn't lead anywhere, about halfway through I got a headache from the mixdown. Highs are too bitter and crunchy, mid range has no warmth.

Like I said, I never give critiques to 1up or be rude, just to feedback, I hope you don't take this the wrong way.

No problem dude! Thanks for the feedback!
It's part of making music and being creative. Some people might not like the endproduct. Can't make everybody happy i suppose.
I don't take it as criticism at all realy. I try to learn from people's comments and incorporate it in my next production, so that i get better at this.
Personaly thought this was one of the best things i made sofar, but there you go....
Your honesty is much respected though!

Finally got my song ready to go. Just finishing up a few final touches (checking levels on a few systems, etc). I'll have it uploaded tonight.

Monchi, would it be ok if I upped a 24bit wav to Soundcloud and had you download it from there? Or should I up it to zshare as well and give you that download location? I would imagine Soundcloud wouldn't compress downloadable files, but I could be mistaken.

soundcloud and zshare are ok.

get your tracks in by this weekend guys as I will begin final comp and have it up by sunday. what sucks is I will be out of the country post 4th of July so this one is going to be close.

Any chance of this one finally hitting the front page again?

wait wait wait! isnt it the weekend already?!

fuckkk.. i thgouth we had until the end of the month? fuckfuckfuck my two tracks arent finished. i lost the original session files so i'm kinda fucked. i have to rebuild one and the other one i have a wav copy of already so i just need to record vocals over.

maybe i should bail out if you guys need them for tomorrow. i dunno. ill see what i can do today.

just get em in as soon as you can :)

this release is looking pretty thin as it is so extra time for more contributions is always good. i'm out of the country starting the 4th of july so if we still have a few stragglers someone else has to cover for me when doing level consistency checks across submissions

Alright, got my song finished up.

Pirahna1 - BeeLine

I reworked Ente Ente slightly, gave it some space, another instrument, and a new intro/outro. Let me know what you guys think. Can't wait to hear everyone's songs!

PM sent Monchi!
How many artists/songs do we have so far for this release?

Can I use FL Studio? I would like to enter.

EDIT: Dammit is it too late to enter? I have like two songs semi-ready.

Why wouldn't you be able to use FL Studio? As long as it's music, you're good to go.
I'd imagine you'd have to get a song in within the next few days or so - but that's Monchi's discretion.

Okay here are my two wips. They are pretty much complete and I doubt I'll be changing much. Any suggestions/critiques before I finally enter them would be appreciated.

Rhodes

Gestalt Theory
Gestalt Theory is my most summery one I guess

Here's a third one I'm hoping I can get done too.

Mood Swings

I don't know if these qualify as summery either, but they do to me at least.

Also do they final submissions really have to be in wav format?

anyone need an MC for one of their tracks? I made a couple with neptunes in that old "hip-hop experiment" thread, but I don't think that went anywhere :lol

Here's other stuff I've written/recorded (I mostly just steal random beats I like and rhyme over them, heh)

I've been wanting to incorporate vocals into my tracks, I've just never came across anything I was comfortable working with yet. I'd be willing to work with a vocalist in the future however. Do you have any accapellas laying around I could experiment with?

@ultim8p00
I like the tracks, they're a little too repetitive for my tastes, but I dig your style. Files should be in .wav format (FL can export to .wav - no worries there mate - export to 32bit .wav).

i'll be positing what i've completed tonight with a final shot on thursday july 2nd. after that someone has to take over for me since i'll be out of the country

I sent you a PM with my contributions Monchi. It's well over 200mb, so hopefully I'm not too late.

Here's my final song if anybody wants to listen. I trashed Mood Swings 'cause it sounds weird.

I like the overall feel of the track, really dig the intro as well. However the highs are extremely piercing, almost so much so that I want to turn it off.

Aside from those highs, I enjoyed the track, good work.

I'm really curious why no one has answered my question?

Is there any chance of a mod putting it on the front page like GAME 01?

I doubt it, the front page hasn't been updated in ages. Whenever someone asks about the front page the common reply is "What front page?" or "We have a front page?". I wouldn't even know who to contact about it in the first place :(

The GAME 5 release thread will probably get sticky'd in OT though. I think all of them have been so far.

Is nash still involved with G.A.M.E at all? Perhaps we could request him to simply update the OP in G.A.M.E 01 at every release so we get more publicity since it's linked on the front page?

Just a thought, as I didn't even hear about 04 and I'm pretty active in these threads :)

Thanks. I go for a space-age chiptune style with very bright melodies. Are the highs really that bad? They didn't sound too bright to me, but maybe that's just because I'm used to it. Does this sound better?

I reduced some of the brightness on the instrument and fiddled with equo a little bit.

Sorry dudes, I've been AWOL from doing anything productive since I've had about 6 hours to myself the last three weeks (100% of my posting is done between cases at work). Tomorrow's a national holiday which means I get a half day off (whoo!) so I'll try and get all my stuff put together and submitted. I might be able to submit 3 tracks to add a bit of weight to the comp if that's not too much of a burden on the mastering crew.

Hey Monchi I sent you a rar package with the final tracks. It has one new song for a total of four. I completely forgot to run equo through the other tracks. Do not use the one I sent before this because it sounds like rubbish in comparison.

I wanted to chime in that I have 1 to 2 new tracks I whipped up for this, Monchi they will be headed your way shortly.

(And LiveFromKyoto, 4 months and you STILL didn't add me to the contributors list? srsly? ;0 )

Also, I seem to recall some requests regarding the artwork waaaaaay back?

monchi, i would volunteer to help with the mastering while youre away but i dont have the hardware for it. However i would like to give arranging the order of the tracks a shot once theyre all in.

m0dus, was it you who came up with the idea of the G.A.M.E. project?

Come up with it? No, that honor falls to people like FightyF, Monchi, LFK, and such. I jumped in at the very beginning, though, as a contributor. I also do the website, and I've done the artwork for every album thus far . . .
