Sounds good. Only thing I noticed is the main instrument and the bass have overlapping frequencies and sound a bit too similar, so they get lost in each other. Other than that (and of course, levels - but it's a wip) it sounds great.

Ahh yes I agree, I tried putting them in different frequencies but the problem still remains so I'll definitely fix that. Alright! Off to work, then I'll play around with it some more. Looks like I needed a cartoon to get some inspiration back.

I didn't want to post this one yet since it's a compelte work in progress with zero structure, missing layers etc. but I really want to know if the main instrument sounds alright on your end:

It would be my 2nd submission, going for a duration of 5 minutes. I got my inspiration from a cartoon with robots having fun at an electronic beach... lol
i like it. minimalistic in a good way. very chill melody.

here's one ive been working on. the vocals are just a placeholder for what will either be me rerecording the vocals through a real mic or me using my vocoder. i havent found the right setting on my microkorg's vocoder yet so im not sure if ill use it. google has failed me.

http://soundcloud.com/btkadams/i-5

so should i just rerecord my vocals? or does anybody have any suggestions for my vocoder?

I am having issues with these things and when I have issues I tend to go back to the drawing board.

Before I press "detonate" on these songs, I decided to post them here.
WIP crap quality, ouch my ears, blah blah. Here we go.

This is the "safe" song that I started to work after reading what the theme was this time around. I'm convinced that thsi sounds more fall than summer, but I guess I'll see.
http://soundcloud.com/minyobi/summer-of-sorts

This next song was supposed to be a lot of things. The inspiration was um...Anyone here remember the "Forever Freestyle" compilation that came out a while back? Yeah, that.
I like where I'm going with this song, but I have a feeling that all of the instruments are going to be changed sooner than later. Yes, one of them is far too low.

Any sunshine here?

I left a comment on the first track on Soundcloud: I dig it.

Anyone want to write lyrics for a song I made? It's got a summer, grimy feel to it. I can't post it now but when I get home from work I'll upload the unmastered track for you all to hear.

welp, i just decided that i have to buy an audio interface of some kind... no more onboard audio. i was working on my DS-10 track just now, loving the way the DS was sounding through my computer speakers... real deep bass, a whole lotta presence. Record it into Audacity, and as soon as I hit playback it sound cheap and weak. All the bass is gone, thats for sure.

I wonder if its my onboard audio or the fact that Im using Audacity. I mean, i had my DS plugged into the onboard and it sounded great live. It was only playing the recording back in Audacity that it sounded weak.

What do you guys think?

It's a problem with Audacity. If I drag a normal old MP3 (I used a Chemical Brothers track) into Audacity and hit play, most of the lower frequencies aren't replicated. However, as soon as you rip the file inside Audacity to a .wav or .mp3 you'll get those frequencies back. I'm not sure what it is, but there's a problem somewhere inside Audacity.

does anyone know of any simple open source recording programs (windows)? 4 tracks are enough for me... hell, ill take a program thatll give me one stereo track if i have to. just something to record with.

You already know of Audacity, and there's another by the name of Wavosaur. I have them both, but have only opened Wavosaur a few times - Audacity is much more user friendly, IMO.

Just stumbled upon a shit-load of free loops / one-hits / etc from a company called Togeo Studios. They have a bunch of Ableton Live presets as well - all their stuff is free / donation-ware. I just demo'd a few things, haven't downloaded any as of yet. Looks like great stuff though.

Alright, I finally got my idea recorded here. I may just leave it as it is, to be used as an interlude on the album. I may also remix it at double-time and submit that as an actual song too. Feedback always appreciated.

hehehe, could be an interesting collab between art/music GAF if we could get an illustration per track

That could be really awesome, as long as there arent 30 tracks or something :P

I dig it. Only thing I'd do to it, if anything, would be to add a breakdown and another verse. But I like it just fine. That DS-10 has some oomph to it!

This is amazing. It reminds me of old Tangerine Dream and that's a very good thing. Love how you mix it up at the end too.

I know, I love it. You have no idea how happy it makes me that something like KORG DS-10 exists.

Definitely keep that first track Minyobi. You know what I imagine when I hear this song? Some sort of sweet road trip, driving endlessly wherever my convertible will take me.

Brosey I really like that one. Really calm and dark at the same time. The sounds are really nice, I'll have to get myself that DS app! For some reason I picture myself riding my bike around my house when I was a kid while it was getting late, exploring.

Edit: I extended my 2nd submission: http://soundcloud.com/supradarky/electronic-beach-alpha-0-1 . I'm trying to finish the melody first, then I'll get to adding more layers and sound editing.

thanks for the mental picture. :D i consider that a high compliment.

dude, your track is off to an amazing start. i posted a comment on soundcloud, but i think it needs a lead line somewhere around 1:00-1:45, OR i also heard (in my head) the main line shifting keys, like a 3 or 4 note progression, instead of staying at a static note throughout the song.

hope you know what i mean by that.

So I'm having a hell of a time getting a proper song structure going. I have all these loops that sound just great, I just can't evolve any of them without sounding uber-repetitive. What type of structure to you all use? A typical intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-break-verse-et al? What do you do when you find yourself starting to stagnate? Do you start adding more instruments/sounds? Maybe I'm just having a case of the block, I dunno.

Here's what I'm working on at the moment:
http://soundcloud.com/pirahna1/3-19-09-wip

It's turning into a breakbeat, which I really dig - the drum track is nice and tight, so is the bass. Maybe I just need to get more melody lines involved (a weakness of mine). I'm thinking of re-adding the intro into the song later, probably extending or re-working the break section with it.

Maybe I should dig through some older breakbeat stuff. Old school Chemical Brothers / Propellerheads and Fatboy Slim. :D

You know what it's totally missing? A Dre-style synth legato (I'm thinking Gin & Juice or What's My Name) over top of the whole thing. Except for the bass it's all staccato notes, a high legato would tie it all together, and sound summery.

CHOOSE.MY.DESTINY!!! which of these 3 songs should I continue working on for GAME 5? they're about as summery as i could get ... sry :<

I love melody 2 8, it sounds really Ulrich Schnaussy. 7even20 is a bit too Eurodance for my tastes and Sadness 19 sounds more like a fall thing - november rain (lower case) & all that.

So yeah, I vote 2 8.

Thanks.
If you only knew how many times that simple song caused my craphouse PC to lock up.
Damned VSTs.
Anyway, I'll find a way to tinker with it without setting my house on fire.

How's this sound? EDIT: Just re-upped the newer version with the fixed bass and synth octave.

i am effin' blanking on this comp...ended up making tracks that are likely no good for this one but would love feedback regardless

http://soundcloud.com/monchi-kun/strgzr

was at the beach a few weeks ago watching the sunset and the melody for this one stuck in my head. thought it would make for some nice stargazing music.

i created the rolling waves sound using Subtractor on Reason 4.0...nice calming effect :)

http://soundcloud.com/monchi-kun/spy-battle

this sounds more like a summer blockbuster theme...too bad it's not all electronic or else i'd submit this.

I really enjoy Strgzr. Reminds me of driving at night in the summer with all my windows down and the sunroof open - great times.

Haven't listened to the song yet, but we're not strictly bound to electronic sounds are we?
In that case, i'm fucked!

I'm working with a orchestral sound set and am quite happy with the way this perticulair tune is comming along, if i say so myself.

Anyways, í've also been trying to work a little more with EQ settings.
And still learning new tricks and shortcuts in Cubase.
There's just so many stuff i haven't even tried out yet....

And this round i'm gonna wait till the official release before listening to any of your guys tracks as incidently i sometimes i program the same patterns of perticulair sounds so it sounds sorta like something that has allready been done :lol
Besides, judging your former tracks i have full confidence you'll all come up with more quality material.

sounds like everybody's stuff is coming along really well.

i dont know what youre complaining about monchi, strgzr is hot.

i hope some of you artists decide to get inspired by our music! :D

Have you started using Cubase 5 yet? I'm using it and it's fucking disaster right now. Crash almost every session. However, for orchestral and live sounding expression, the new articulation lanes are very nice. I used them a bit in my song, which is also not including any electronic sounds this time. It's pretty easy though to say, change from stacc to legato on the fly by pressing a key. You could change from a violin section to woodwinds instantly without even having to load the actual instrument in a channel. Lovely. If I could just get it to run...

Oh, the hell with it. Add me to the list.

I assume it's cool if I whip up some cover art as well?

Assumption is the mother of all...
Start whippin dude! I love your artwork.

Same problem here. Crashes when i go editing Audio parts while the sounds are still looping. Reckon it's a hardware conflict in my current pc wich isn't all to fast either.
Saving up for a new machine to run this bad boy properly.
To be honest i had problems with Cubase 4 in the beginning aswell but after ceretain updates everything works fine.

Definitely that first 5 update is what we need... as usual with Cubase releases. It had better work, because if you go to cubase.net, the list of bug fixes for the update aren't covering some of the issues I'm having.

not only do you not have to ask, but personally, i would be honored. the fullsize version of your avatar has been my desktop (1920x1200) since i discovered your site over a month ago. looks beautiful.

so yeah, that would be awesome.

i like it a lot. its a groovin and movin tune haha. Only thing I would do if it was mine would be to put a lead melody in... even if its in the background ; )

Thanks man! I've only been producing for 18 months now, and this is my first DnB-ish track. Since I'm quite a newb when it comes to producing I'll do my best to make this track as good as possible ;)

it just seems so "dark" wit that bassline

i've been listening to a shitton of j-pop to see if the vibe would rub off on me while I write.

Capsule, Genki Rockets, Perfume, Pizzicatto 5....zip, can't seem to figure out that poppy melody line i'm searching for w/o copying what i hear from the artists mentioned

oh man, i know the feeling. GDC is finally over so hopefully i'll have more time to write...or at least write at a decent time (SMRHMR was written at 1 am)
