Ha. Haha. He.

:lol

I know its my own fault for choosing such a fem sounding username, but its a nick-name ive had for about 15 years... and its Brose for short.

I have a kickass loop I've been playing with the last week that I'm really loving (isn't that always the case though ;p ). Soon as I get some sort of progression down I'll post a sample on my Soundcloud.

Good stuff from everyone so far though. I love you guys. :lol

Ouch, I've been so busy and my singer friend had all kinds of trouble (poor her).

So my original project for G.A.M.E. 5.0 is on hold... in the meantime I cooked a super happy chiptune, but I don't know if it may fit the comp.

DivShare File - The Bub Bard - Il chip è servito - The c.mp3

Basically. It's my tribute to a ooooooooold italian show. It's not a cover, since I put lots of my stuff in there. Check the original, and behold the mighty 80s. :)

I also used a sample of Mario's "Yippie!", if you guys think this may be fit for the comp I can replace it with something original. I really don't know, but check the song out, even just for fun.

not true, i just listened to it again... and i like it. its just hard to comment on because its so abstract. its a good drone though and the samples are cool as hell.

and fabiollo, this sounds like it couldve been a super mario alternate star-power song. what did you use to make such authentic 8-bit sound?

OT- anyone in this thread remember mario paint? me and my best friend in middle school used to record our mario paint comics on a vhs cassette... draw a frame, add animation if applicable, and record for 5 seconds, then move on to the next frame. it was the awesomest program i had ever come across and the first time i ever programmed music digitally. i remember my friend was in awe of my ability to program music that way, just as i was in awe of his ability to draw with a mouse.

i still have that vhs tape, too... over an hour of juvenile nonsense and hilarity... lots of exploding heads and such :lol . i need to convert that tape to digital, seriously. i still have my snes too, but unfortunately no mario paint. i wonder who stole it. :lol

Thanks. :)

Actually I just used the awesome and free Peach VST.
Drums were made with Toad VST, same site. There are a bunch of great sounding retro VSTs up there, all free (but you can of course donate).

That, and a tiny little bit of Fruity Kick just to get the kick more pumping.

We'll aim for mid-late June. Starting tomorrow I don't even have a day off until the 23rd of June or so anyway.

I just watched the promotional video this morning at youtube.

Looks pretty nice. Very straighforward interface and it seems quite flexible as well. Can't wait to try it out =)

i'm starting to use Reason more and more these days...for one thing having all the crazy routing happening makes me feel like i'm learning some engineering and patching techniques that i can apply on the real thing

the high-pitched lead is killing me though...plus i keep thinking of Falcor from The Never Ending Story when i listen to this track, not the kind of imagery i was going for :P

The one that kicks in at ~0:36? Yeah, it's kinda wonky. I'd change the timbre of it, but the progression is fine.

yeah the lead line is a bit piercing... but still, great song. i wouldnt worry too much about that image of Falcor in your mind, monchi.

Monchi: great track. There's something too high pitched here and there, but with some minor tweaking it could be perfect. Neverending story vibe.

Pirahna: I like the house vibe, cool tune. Honestly I don't like the mix: I'm no technician, but I have the feeling that with some more panning/mixing/fiddling the sounds could really stand out.

i had some trouble with ableton and im trying to figure it out now. just got back from vacation last week so i havent had much time for music. my songs were near completion though so this shouldnt be too much of a problem.

monchi-kun said:
aside from the issues how do you like Ableton Live?
i was actually really enjoying it. i was making mixes with it and was having a blast! i think for music making though i might want to try out cubase again (i had le forever ago). i definitely love ableton though.

(Crawls back on the board)

I don't want to make it look like I silently bailed, so let me tell you my situation.

My Dell Craphouse PC decided that it wanted to start giving me hell.
To make a long story short, my PC's black plague was cured at the cost of damn near everything on it.

Three songs (one being the old, somewhat iffy version of the song intended for this collection) made it to Soundcloud. Unless I can get something going real damned quick, I might have to gracefully bow out of this shindig.

What a damned mess.

A question.

I've been meaning to get out of using trackers to make my music.
Any relatively cheap programs out there I should check out before I start assuming my old habits?

Eh, why not. Count me in. So basically anything in the spirit of summer?

I had a tune out on a compilation for a rather large Net Label I'm running in association with IDMforums, you can download it for free at this link if you want to hear what I've been up to. Otherwise just been working on an EP lately. Got a pair of some sweet ass Mackie HR624mkII's a few months back.

Here's my setup now: Logic 8 on a Macbook Pro, Mackie HR624mkII (pair) via RCA (low noise)

Indaba Music, a community and suite of online tools for musicians, announced today they’ve revamped their online recording and production tool using Java and JavaFX. The result: a platform-agnostic, online interface that allows you to record music “directly to the Internet.” And the band Weezer is excited enough about it that they’re giving their official endorsement.

Indaba, along with some others, already had an online music production tool. The new version expands on that idea, allowing you to record audio signal directly online, and beefing up tools for mixing, editing, and looping. Just like tools like GarageBand, a pre-built set of loops is ready for people to quickly mock up songs.

With some help from Sun’s JavaFX technology, the browser/desktop barrier isn’t as noticeable. You get a graphical-looking interface that works the same anywhere, plus the ability to drag audio files to and from your desktop.

javafx.com

Interestingly, Weezer’s endorsement focuses on the fact that they don’t know how to use other music software. I have to admit some skepticism here – a lot of musicians I think are savvy enough to get to use creative new music software, and a lot of the basic functions of the Indaba software itself are straight out of tools like ACID and GarageBand. Nor do you have to worry about any JavaFX tool blowing away your REAPER, Logic, Live, Pro Tools… well, you know.

On the other hand, while this is basically just an ACID-style audio production station in the browser, I’m curious about what new applications might take advantage of in-browser collaboration that don’t look like existing audio tools. Maybe we’ll have specialized tools for working out specific ideas or sharing snippets in-progress. And there’s no question that building some tools in the browser makes sharing more immediate.

I’ll be talking to the Indaba folks and the JavaFX team a little bit about the technology, and with Sun in particular I’ll be sure to ask about some of the future potential here for other tools. If you have questions, let me know.

Browser-based DAW you say?

From the maker of ToneMatrix. Online 808, 909, 303, ToneMatrix, and a ton of stomp boxes.

I had a blast playing around on this, great stuff. I'm sure you could get a song or two out of that little beastie :D

How are those monitors treating you Perm?

Hey, how's everybody doing? I think we should be looking to start submissions this week or next, trying to get a release by the end of the month or early July.

I'd like to be more hands-on with organizing stuff, but I literally only have one single day off between now and late August.

Are we sorted for exactly who's doing what this time around?

How come no one's updated the G.A.M.E listing on the main NeoGAF page since G.A.M.E (1)?

The Mackies are a dream come true. Superb frequency response, great low end clarity, nice highs that aren't too crispy. I usually am not a huge fan of midrange tone but so my mixes smile a bit much which is something these Monitors fixed by taking the boominess out of the 200-500hz range and just making it nice and punchy.

They were a BITCH to calibrate though. Trying to match 85-90dB for test tones when you have reflection from an untreated room with close walls is a tough thing to do. :lol

I have a rough sketch of a song - Ente Ente - but am not totally happy with it yet. Thing is, I blew my PSU and had to instal Win7 on an older HD. And now my MIDI interface won't work because it's unsupported in Win7. Really all I have to do is remix the song, but I'd like to add a few parts, which I'll have to do with my damned PC keyboard. Ugh.

Oh, and any comments/critiques on my song would be lovely! :D

If we could push submissions back to next week or the week after I'd be much better off. But I'm not sure how long mastering would take, no more than a week no?

What say you all on a July 1-3 release? That way we can have it out before the 4th (Saturday) and people could bump it at their parties or what have you?

for those who are finished...give me links to your final files so that I may download them. make sure you post on the thread when you do. i'll get started with balancing the levels on all the tracks.

Make sure they aren't tagged as loops (acid loops threw me for a doozy last time)

I'm going to pick up an Audigy duet next Friday, I'll send you the files once I've run them through that.

Here is the first draft of my submission. Its a pretty simple, chilled song with some funky bass and cheesy synths/guitar. I'm a bit unsure about the mixing job; sounds a bit muddy so I might go back and remix it, maybe the guitar solo could have been played a bit better also.

Solstice

Pirahna1 - I like the track, my only suggestion would be to shorten the intro a bit, it takes a while to "kick in". The mix sounds good through my logitech PC speakers (I really need some monitors!)

**Edit** I re-uploaded the song, the version on soundcloud now is a remixed version with a new guitar solo.

Hey Monchi, just PMed you my two DS-10 submissions. Raw into Audacity.

Feel free to pump anything below 100Hz on both tracks if need be. :D

i'll do a pass w/o EQ like before and hopefully Fab will take another stab at song arrangement. then if anyone wants specific tweaks to their track i'll do it but only after everyone has submitted.

so get those tracks in kids

Well, it seems i'm quite unlucky when it comes to completing things...

Took my audio tracks to my friends studio for mastering and my recorder got stolen by one of the "vistors".
Got the raw audio tracks on this pc, but the processor is dying on me (AMD64 3700+) so i need a new rig to finalize stuff.
This new rig should be complete by the upcomming weekend but up until then i can't do anything besides making new sounds with my gear.

When was the deadline again?

I'm about to PM you mine Monchi. Really haven't changed it at all...it's impossible until I get a new soundcard. My onboard soundchip can't handle it's 'complexity' =/

Don't have anything appropriate to submit, so I'm out. I'll be checking around for the playlists tho :D

Hows Cubase 5 running for you?

Nothing but trouble here, so i'm waiting for Windows 7 (and new hardware components) before i start fidlin with it again.

This is gonna be an electronica album with 'summer' as the theme? In the OP you say "And if you can work in a gaming angle, all the better." This means that people are allowed to NOT make it game related. Which renders these G.A.M.E. projects pointless?

I think at this point it's just a project for people who enjoy producing, not necessarily gaming related.

Which is ok.

Agreed, yeah we have had a lot of gaming themes, but we have also had tons of diversity, I think thats what makes a lot of these great, you dont know exactly what you are going to get until you listen. Keeps things fresh.
